Unfortunately, it may have actually violated OSHA regulations, and was thus unfit to operate. However, the park continued to lie to people until they found the perfect excuse to absolve themselves of guilt and remorse, with the rollercoaster being scrapped entirely and letting nature reclaim the land.

This was the only rollercoaster I've been on where I actually blanked out for half a second during the launch phase. There are instructions all over the ride telling the rider to not lean forward at all and to have your hands on the arm rest before and during the launch. Those injuries were definitely caused by not following instructions.

I think if we want to make a coaster with this acceleration again, the launch system must included headrest and back switches, until all occupants pressed their head and back firmly on the switches, it wouldn't launch.

Having rode Do-Donpa in 2013 one thing I can say is the seats in the more modern trains might be a reason. When I rode the seat back was very straight and designed so you leaned back into it to brace your neck and spine. The more modern seats appear bucket style, which may constrict movement to dissipate energy. (I was back row so this might be a skewed perspective)
Amazing ride when I went, literally like being shot from a cannon. You go from nothing to blitz so fast you can't scream. The top hat was also mental, despite being around 118kg at the time, I still leapt way out of my seat, to the point I was ready to re-enact the worst of Theme Park on a 90's pc XD

I rode dododonpa a couple of times in 2019 and had no idea there was any danger on it. The first time I went on I was on my own and I was shocked by the power of the launch.
After riding the other coasters in the park I went back for seconds and met another tourist and convinced them to buy a fast pass and we rode it together. While waiting for the launch the other person was turned talking to me and I said to them "you probably want to put your head back for this" and a few seconds later we were shot out of the tunnel!
I dont doubt that someone could get injured if they were positioned awkwardly during the launch

Thank you for doing this roller coaster and also for talking about Fuji-Q Highland. Some roller coaster enthusiasts forget about this park a lot in their videos but happy you did it. This was one of my favorite roller coasters at Fuji-Q, when I lived in Japan. That launch was really fast, it made you feel like if you were a F/A-18 pilot about launch off an aircraft carrier. Even the hydraulic sounds you would hear when you about launch reminded me of the catapults you would hear when the jets launched. I was super sad to hear that they had closed it down, because I really wanted to ride it one more time before moving back to the states. Having ridden it both versions of the coaster, the top hat was fun, but the loop was amazing, especially when you felt like you were going in slow motion. Fuji-Q is definitely a park I majorly recommend going if you are ever in Japan, especially now that they have a new boomerang type coaster.

Reminds me of Dream World's Tower of Terror (Queensland, Australia) with its electronic acceleration, a decade before Superman The Ride. I was there when they were first testing it, and the Japanese park owner was standing there watching with a smile on his face. The sound of the ride I'll never forget. It was like a Tesla Coil from Red Alert charging up. You blasted out of the tunnel at high speed, sped through the park in a straight line, and straight up this huge tower, before falling back down again. Brilliant!

  • @schagerbaantje
    @schagerbaantje 9 месяцев назад +23

5:38 I have to correct you there cause it works the other way around. The central tank the pressure tank which shoots compressed air in the 4 cilinders on each side of the tower. Each cylinder has a piston which is connected to a cable, having the cart held by a cable on every side of the tower. You did got it correct that its using the cylinder pressure to weigh the cart.
I've operated one of these rides for several seasons as my main So I got to know the mechanics of it quite well 😂

If you didn't get the chance to ride it think of the fastest launch coaster you have ridden. Yet again, another great video.
For me, the one that got away was almost Superman at Magic Mountain but I finally rode it. We had annual passes and every time we went, it was closed. I think because of the cost of running it and maintaining it, they hardly ever turn it on. Other then that, I can't think of one that I'm disappointed that I missed. I thought about going on X2 but it was closed the last time we went and I wasn't really looking forward to it because of all the spinning

I rode Do-dodonpa back when it had the top hat, but I didn't know they'd recently closed it permanently. Only coaster I've been on where they make you remove all your watches, jewelry & any footwear before you board the ride vehicle. They were ultra safety conscious!

Hey for anyone sensitive to jumpscares, starting at 14:00 there's an ad for the coaster that features people being launched toward the camera very suddenly in a way that can be startling if you're not expecting it. I don't think it's meant to be a jumpscare but it did startle me for a second so just wanted to mention it for anyone for whom that sort of thing might be a problem

Such a shame they could not sort the issues with it.

My bucket list coaster was The Beast. I remember seeing on Travel Channel shows in the early 2000s. Finally Finally crossed it off my list last July! The night ride with lightning in the far distance may be my favorite coaster experience ever. Not necessarily my #1 favorite coaster but so worth it and very high up on my list. Not sure which is next on the bucket list but I've only ever been to US parks and Canada's Wonderland.

I got a chance to ride The Beast with my dad when I was a kid. I was amazed how it just seemed to go on and on and I had never experienced anything like it. That coaster and day is now a treasured memory.

I loved this. BTW I rode Stealth in early November 2019 and Maxx Force in early June 2022, and (it was my 4th favourite coaster in the park too) I've been told that Stealth's improvement happened LONG before I visited. Is that true? Thanks for posting!

I went to Fuji-Q for the first time in May 2024 and didn't realize until I got to the park that Do-Dodonpa was permanently closed. Very sad that I didn't get the opportunity to break my bones, but all of the other coasters at the park were still worth the trip. Eejanaika is my new favorite coaster.

I particularly enjoy watching because a painful neurological disorder keeps me riding coasters. Thanks again for amusing me while I wait on the NHS. British humour is better….
