I remember how well-liked he was in my grade. I never knew about his mother, though. I can't believe how much he has overcome.

Not everyone that experiences self pity is hateful. In fact for example I live in an area where there are hateful people that think that is the only way to get people motivated. I find it irritating to go into a place of business around here and meet someone with a bad attitude. Some people have the confused theory that is how a boss should be.
