To rephrase it, he's saying: When the teacher lets the student take credit for their improvement, they've improved the student both in ability and in confidence. The best of teachers can do this for their mentees without them realizing it.

Indeed, I was just writing a sermon that intersects with this topic, where it could be argued that Christ may have taught a defenseless woman seeking assistance to represent herself, in a moment, to overcome prejudice. The original comment helped me to see this truth in what Christ had done for her. Had He made it plain to his disciples who were prejudiced against her that he was doing her this favor, they also would not have come to learn her worth, because they would have given all credit to Christ's teaching and none to her. This is a complex kind of charitable act, and one worth reflecting on, in my humble opinion.

For about 5 years, I've been living with a close friend and he, as well as my family, kept pushing me to fix my attitude, but I never did, because of my negativity. I let out my bad attitude, even when I work. I've been fired four times for this and I haven't changed until NOW. I say now, because I'm not gonna let myself and others down anymore by moving forward and fixing my attitude, even when people are really worried about where I would lead myself to. I know life is hard, but I want my life to be happier and better throughout all the rest of my life. Otherwise, I would live in poverty, because of the attitude that I had before.

What's funny is I learned my technique from the Bible, I've been managing people since I started in the workforce. Respect and encouraging go a very long way when u go by the rules
Imo ego is like fire. When controlled its one of the most useful elements for progress. Or it can reduce years of progress to nothing but ash. A big display can be lack of control and arrogance. It can also be a show of trust to other members of the team with big egos who wont respect you unless they know you have the fire on hand as needed. Some people can only perform when all the other egos in the room are doused. A controlled big display can be good for showing people you greatly respect that you are not a liability and you have the structural integrity for them to just be themselves. Always a dichotomy though. Real power is the power to let power go as needed. Ego is a lot like that. So you have to never run your flame up higher than what you know you can douse with x opposite modality, otherwise youre not in the drivers seat anymore, which does the opposite of establishing trust with the ppl you respect.
I had my “assignment ended” 3 weeks into my job it was really hard to go in every day I didn’t really fit in and I was let go because of bad attitude I started to wonder if I have an ego problem or an attitude problem it kind of crushed me

Find something that only they have the skillset to do, or at least do better than others and put them in a position that if they fail, it affects other people's projects. Basically, as long as people are willing to do the work regardless of the person's input, that person won't learn. And, if they are competent, perhaps even good, they just use strong words, perhaps it isn't an arrogance problem but that they are not being given work that is challenging. Or maybe it is just a communication problem.

I would say congratulate his achievement then repeat the process with something even harder. This will build leadership in ego Dave subconsciously and eventually at some point he will find something he can't do as well, leading to the desired outcome of his ego being checked

However, in my experience… the other subordinates who despise this individual with the big ego will not like that you tasked this individual with a lead role, because this individuals ego will get even more puffed up and the others will be forced to work under this persons lead. If this situation is not handled well, things can become even more volatile… In principle Jocko is right. In practice there are always more elements at play.

His logic was, if I'm going to die anyway, might as well do what I want to do for the rest of my life and I already have everything I want. Of course, the trouble begins when he decides to take responsibility outside the scope of just himself, or in the event he decides he wants more things in life or do something else, he'll have a much harder time transitioning. My issue on the other hand, is not my nephew but a teammate that's in a leadership position.

when he gets off video games the hardest reconciliation will be the fact he wasted so many years doing it.He needs to understand he cant build productive habbits playing video games. He needs to be in tune with his desires. alot of kids are told wanting a beautiful wife is wrong , it objectifies women . The matter of fact is women are attracted to success. If he works hard he can get what he wants. He needs to understand this. guys who play video games are coping with their reality. Maybe their homelife is destroyed. Its important someone is there to talk to them, to see who they really are. Its important they find somewhere fertile to build good habbits like a family business or a farm. When he decides to make gains in real life he will blame his parents for allowing it to happen and showing only a grim perspective of life. In which case he will either be psychotic or have enough fortitude to suffer internally to be able to forgive. I urge parents to lead by taking ownership and ask for forgiveness for letting the situation become like this and then continuing to talk with him everyday to each a solution whilst showing them life is worth fighting for ; it is worth it to live.

She isnt a completely shitty mom, in fact quite opposite. Shes out there working like a plow horse to make sure they have what they need. I personally blame their deadbeat father who left when they were still young children. They havent ever had a stable father figure in their lives. I've tried to become that male role model in their lives but they don't respond well to me. I'm not a parent myself and I'm a long haul truck driver so I dont have a lot of time or parenting skills to share with my sisters 2 kids. Her daughter is 19 and she also has a fair bit of mental health issues. But she graduated high school and I'm so proud of her for that!

I got a guy with a big ego. Thinks he knows more than he actually does. I put him in charge and now he thinks he's above me. His ego grew and now I'm in a position where nobody wants to work with him including myself. He gets in my face in front of other coworkers. Yesterday he we got into it and he said fuck you and walked away. I'm his boss. So now what do i do? I can't fire him because we're busy and it's hard finding a replacement that wouldn't need extensive training. We're in a pissing match and he's the guy that would take it to a physical level if I don't use kid gloves. I can't just let him continue to disrespect me because the other guys will likely follow suit. Any advice would be appreciated.

A special case is when you put somebody in charge and they correspond with your customers with unprofessional writing. You still need to review it and if they write things like "This letter is to..." WRONG....or mix their with there...or Use personal posessive pronouns incorrectly...all of it. There are some egos out there that suck ballz at writing. So, don't let them sink your ship with poor writing.

Yesterday he we got into it and he said fuck you and walked away. I'm his boss. So now what do i do? I can't fire him because we're busy and it's hard finding a replacement that wouldn't need extensive training. We're in a pissing match and he's the guy that would take it to a physical level if I don't use kid gloves. I can't just let him continue to disrespect me because the other guys will likely follow suit. Any advice would be appreciated.

A special case is when you put somebody in charge and they correspond with your customers with unprofessional writing. You still need to review it and if they write things like "This letter is to..." WRONG....or mix their with there...or Use personal posessive pronouns incorrectly...all of it. There are some egos out there that suck ballz at writing. So, don't let them sink your ship with poor writing.
