  • Originating in Xiangtan City, central China's Hunan Province, the Wu Family Quan has a history of over 200 years. The basic skills of Wu Family Quan are the repeated practice of power. Use our feet, body and hands at the very beginning.
Yan Liangming started to practice Wu Family Quan when he was 15 years old as the sixth generation of inheritors. He has since opened a wushu club and teaches Wu Family Quan because of his love for Wu Family Quan. He hopes his son, Yan Kaizhang, will carry it forward. However, it is not that easy for the younger generation.

This style has realistic self-protection fighting elements, good to investigate more of it.

Probably one of the best videos since it doesn't only talk about his art but also shows that they improve their methods through time

Very interesting style, and story of the son who may carry on this tradition.
I noticed the mention of power and mechanical force. As also said, there are many details to the styles, so I don't want to take this out of context, but from what I have seen and experienced leverage and timing is very important. Being able to transfer the power from a blow validates the strike.
Some styles aren't even power-based, using the intensity of the other person's power against them by redirecting the force.
A friend of mine trained in China directly under the master of a style (I unfortunately don't remember the name of it). He posted some clips of him grappling with a fairly old man who was sending him back with what looked like very minimal force and movement. It was actually surreal.
I think some of the deepest secrets of Chinese martial arts are protected to keep people from misusing it. Most I imagine would misuse having this power. Ironically, I also think those who possess such knowledge, rarely, if ever, need to use it.
My friend was in peak physical condition and not by any means new to martial arts.
I love these videos! I think everyone should take martial arts courses; not only to learn combat, but also just to develop one's own self, including mental resilience.
