I saw Courtney and Angela at the Guthrie on the first night of previews. I can't believe he was unprepared! They were brilliant and very personal at the meet and greet afterwards. I brought them a gift and Angela sent me a handwritten thank you card. I was floored! I saw her again a couple years later and reminded her of the mug I gave her, she remembered and said she uses it everyday. Love her! This interview is amazing!
It's so lovely that she actually took the time to send a thank-you note! That's such a rare thing nowadays even from people you know, let alone total strangers.
What I find fascinating is that some of these interviews are PAINFUL because the actors are so shallow and lacking the basic conversation skills required to have substantive interaction. And then you have these two. The interview is longer, they are both active listeners, they ask introspective questions, they relate with each other, and it comes out in the interview. 10/10.
Are you referring to the Actors on Actors series or do you mean in other interviews? Because I haven't yet seen any Actors on Actors videos that were "painful", though these two are pretty awesome together
It is amazing how most of these actors have similar experiences, yet they don't know it until they meet each other. Goes to show you that no matter the craft, we all share a similar trait or feeling.
But she's not pretty at all. Aisha Tyler is noticeably better looking than Tracee who is all black. And it takes both black and white to make that skin, if it weren't for black skin she wouldn't even have that skin, and if it weren't for white skin she wouldn't have it either. Tracee is not attractive at all. And I don't like her ways, she seem to have secret evilness about her expressed in an indirect way.
Brilliant people. Amazing actors. Courtney Vance has such a beautiful voice. He and Angela Bassett are Yale Drama graduates and are such spiritual people. They must have such a wonderful time together. :-) And Tracee Ellis Ross is such a comedic talent!
Courtney you know you got him "Johnny" when your where in the courtroom, yes you where so good. I loved your face when you said,"N', to the other lawyer. I screamed, lol. O my goodness I always knew you where a great actor. Such a gentlemen.
Love some Courtney, he has always been a great actor for a long time, hollywood is so slow, and Love Ms Ross, she is a fresh of breath air, so different, and not a copy cat. Ms Ross don't let that town change you like saying fix your nose, fix your hair, fix your skin, fix your weight, just stay your self, that is why we love watching you. Always love your mother. When will MS DIANA ROSS HAVE A MOVIE MADE ABOUT LIFE, I KNOW SOMEONE THAT COULD PLAY HER AS A TEEN.
I love these interviews! Just discovered today and binge watching lol. By the way, Tracee, you look so lovely here. Always a beauty but I love the look head to toe!
Mr. Vance love your body of work. My fav. is the preacher's wife. Your were in a made for tv. movie, envolved in an interacial romance. That was a beautiful movie.
I think Tracee was a bit caught up in her research of Courtney... that she was a little stiff in her interview...Courtney seemed more aloof and way more talkative about his experiences.... But I love them both, I first met him watching the preachers wife.
I've heard of some actors that lived there for a short time and then moved elsewhere. Ethan Hawke is a good example, he's lived in NYC for years and years but still worked consistently as a film actor. He had to physically go there to get his break though, plus working with his agent to show the scripts and type of work he wanted to go for.
I'm sorry but I have a feeling they don't like each other. They mask it well but some kind of respect is not there. She seems to keep poking at him and he is calm but will strike back in small ways. I really wonder what was going on because Courtney is a beast and has the chops....I would hope that....never mind.
William Johnson - is that what it is? I got a little uncomfortable when she brought back what he'd said about viewing acting as problem solving and she said "I don't by the way," to which he responded "I do by the way." And she smirked, but didn't laugh. I was like wtf is going on here.
They were low-key antagonistic towards each other. They didn't like each other. Maybe it's because she started off the interview bringing up the fact that he got into Harvard and she didn't.
Thank God some people picked up on this. I just watched this and I was not impressed with her approach to her interviewing him. It was uncomfortable at times.
Black-ish or Girlfriends are not dramatic works of art. She never did anything to be considered a great actor. Why do they keep pushing her on us why. She is not the face of black people, she have a white father and a I love white people mother. She keep talking about black issues she do not know our culture. The name Blackish is offensive.
I don't hate her and I understand your point. She cut him off when he was making his point about what older black folks felt when Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were executed. She started to make a point about women and it irked me. But I do understand that Tracee as lovable as she is probably does not understand fully the true struggle of black people. (I don't know her and I could be wrong). She does know her struggle as a privileged mixed race child of Diana Ross which I won't trivialize at all but I feel as much as all struggles are important whether mixed or not Tracee needs to go deeper so that when other people are sharing she should try to relate/respect and not did what she did here even though it was part of history. In short I wanted him to finish a lot of some of his sentences which she didn't allow at times. The comedic spin on the series Black-ish probably helps to make some people feel comfortable about serious topic/s and issues that are still so glaring today. SMH.
Thank you Tracee Ellis Ross and Courtney Vance for bringing sincerity and light into a topic that is usually full of gossip and innuendos. Under President Obama's leadership I experienced an all around better quality of life because people practice an attitude hope and believed that "yes we can" While this message started with the Obamas; I feel in many ways it continues to exist. Since 45 has to divide his time playing president I believe we can #MakeMediaGreatAgain. The devil can't be in two places at the same time...Just Saying

Amy Schumer and Lily Tomlin's Actors on actors is pretty painful. Go ahead and watch it, I felt so unconfortable watchin' it I couldn't finish. lol
Some are brilliant, thoughtful, and deep. Some are just shallow name-dropping contests. This one is awesome!
True, true and true! Ik they team people with differences for diversity but the interviews are rarely this evoking...
so true, some are painful. this is the only I was able to watch the entire interview.
tracee should be a talk show host. she's brilliant.
Aye ! Clemensen
Courtney voice tho😍...It's so soothing.
A Beautiful Mess right!!! He should be hosting a Quiet Storm radio show lol
Every once a while I get reminded about how smart actors are; especially the fact that some of them had incredible academic accolades... Hmm
And his wife, the wonderful Angela Bassett, is a Yalie. I love it!
His voice is soothing. ✨
Variety! Keep these coming! Awesome interviews!
Awesome interaction between these two great actors. The conversation felt real, and I learned a lot about their backgrounds and approaches to acting.
BEST interview so far!!!
Courtney B is handsome. Traces Ellis is gorgeous. the interview is amazing. perfection
Two magnificent story teller, I love their work.
This should be a show on Netflix...
It is amazing how most of these actors have similar experiences, yet they don't know it until they meet each other. Goes to show you that no matter the craft, we all share a similar trait or feeling.
Yes one of the best interviews on this channel. I didn't want to miss a single word. Thanks Variety.
I love how engaged both actors are. Very honest and fruitful conversation!😊
I love love these! Hope to be on it one day! 👍✌
Is it me or can solange play tracee in a film piece or not?? Also this is a great interview keep them coming
yes u are right
toppop89 How about Solange play her mother Diana Ross? Which is a more likely film piece.
toppop89 or Tracee can play Solange
Tracee Ellis Ross' skin is FLAWLESS
she has booty for days . hum, bum , bum bum !
But she's not pretty at all. Aisha Tyler is noticeably better looking than Tracee who is all black. And it takes both black and white to make that skin, if it weren't for black skin she wouldn't even have that skin, and if it weren't for white skin she wouldn't have it either. ***** Wtf, who asked you??
Rock you are a racist piece of shit.
Nd O I'm not racist. I said nothing racist. You are a pile of vomit.
Brilliant people. Amazing actors. Courtney Vance has such a beautiful voice. He and Angela Bassett are Yale Drama graduates and are such spiritual people. They must have such a wonderful time together. :-) And Tracee Ellis Ross is such a comedic talent!
I'm glad I watched this one. This is a great conversation!
my beautiful black ivy league idols
well tracey is from a lot of wealth and privilige
Deer Heart doesn't mean she'd automatically be an ivy leaguer
Thank you, Variety, I'm obsessed with these. Can these be a weekly thing? :)
Courtney you know you got him "Johnny" when your where in the courtroom, yes you where so good. I loved your face when you said,"N', to the other lawyer. I screamed, lol. O my goodness I always knew you where a great actor. Such a gentlemen.
Can I just explain how much I Love and Adore and Respect and Admire both Courtney and Tracee ....... ❤️ ❤️ Thank you for this episode!!!!!!! XoXo
Courtney is so smooth it almost comes off as smug. I love this man. Lol.
Smug? I'd say smart-and-confident as that was his role in Law & Order.
Excellent interview
I love these interviews.

👏👏👏👏 to everything in your comment
Hilarious story, "Tracee Ellis Ross type but they wouldn't see me" LOL!!
One of my very favorite actors
Isn't he married to Angela Bassett?
Rebecca Ramijn yes
As I continued to watch he said so, Thanks
Rebecca Ramijn u very welcome
Yeah he is! Beautiful couple!
Such an interesting and enlightening conversation! Also, Traci, Always and Forever - You are Magical!
I love these interviews! Just discovered today and binge watching lol. By the way, Tracee, you look so lovely here. Always a beauty but I love the look head to toe!
Aw he's very smart, encouraging, & inspiring. And from Detroit too! 💖💯💞💕😍🙌
love them both ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I love Tracee on blackish and especially as Joan on Girlfriends and I love Courtney as any character
Been a fan of Courtney B. Vance since Hamburger Hill and The Hunt for the Red October! More importantly, Tracee Ellis Ross is simply amazing! AMAZING!
I want Tracee and Jennifer Aniston to interview each other that would be amazing
I saw Office Christmas Party yesterday very funny Movie. Everybody in the theater was laughing.
I can see a lot of chemistry between them
Cool interview!!
Courtney gave us some gems in this interview
revealing - Courtney great guy - you wish you were always working with someone like him
INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION......COOL
KICKASS!
great series.
Nice camera work.
I do agree that acting is a very brave profession. I'd love to be that brave.
always had a crush on that woman
Where can I get these earrings???
Mr. Vance love your body of work. My fav. is the preacher's wife. Your were in a made for tv. movie, envolved in an interacial romance. That was a beautiful movie.
He could play a Martin Lawrence role. Great interview 👌🏾🙌🏾
Courtney B. Vance is a gem.
Well spoken, educated black actors
I think Tracee was a bit caught up in her research of Courtney... that she was a little stiff in her interview...Courtney seemed more aloof and way more talkative about his experiences.... But I love them both, I first met him watching the preachers wife.
"I saw a break down once that said Tracee Ellis Ross-like, and they wouldn't see me." - Tracee Ellis Ross.
I think it's because they want someone with a similar energy but who is lesser known and can slip into the character.
Happy birthday courtney from italian boy live in rome
drink every time someone says 'right'
Lol y do I feel like she's mocking him a little and he has no idea? lol
Nd O I think that's just her personality and the way she speaks. She has always had that sort of tone for everything, even when she's really serious.
Guys can you answer this for me honestly? Do you HAVE to move to Los Angeles to be an tv/film actor?
I've heard of some actors that lived there for a short time and then moved elsewhere. Ethan Hawke is a good example, he's lived in NYC for years and years but still worked consistently as a film actor. He had to physically go there to get his break though, plus working with his agent to show the scripts and type of work he wanted to go for.
Positivity is encouraged...b..bb...but, idk.. maybe it's me. I mostly enjoyed this, but were they truly, honestly vibing?? Good interview nonetheless.
So Troy Bolton...was really Courtney B. Vance...
yes!!!!
There is a tendency for people who know exactly what they want to do in college, to not actually use their degree.
So...Larry Daley...was really Courtney B. Vance...
Love ❤
Great interview. However, he fails to ask her enough questions.
Awwwsssooooommmme
I'm sorry but I have a feeling they don't like each other. They mask it well but some kind of respect is not there. She seems to keep poking at him and he is calm but will strike back in small ways. I really wonder what was going on because Courtney is a beast and has the chops....I would hope that....never mind.
They both went to different Ivy League universities. Its a lampoon and their personal premise of the interview.
William Johnson - is that what it is? I got a little uncomfortable when she brought back what he'd said about viewing acting as problem solving and she said "I don't by the way," to which he responded "I do by the way." And she smirked, but didn't laugh. I was like wtf is going on here.

Courtney had relatives on hermitage in Chicago I knew of him back in the 70s he was married and had 2 children the children had some type of syndrome.
Why is she here they keep pushing her on us as if she is a great actor or actress.
.
When it comes to men she likes guys that look like her dad but the majority of her male fans are black🤔
She’s said she likes black bearded men and she dated Akon’s brother 😂, next
Tracee is amazing but Courtney B. is soooo boring dear lord.
Black-ish or Girlfriends are not dramatic works of art. She never did anything to be considered a great actor. Why do they keep pushing her on us why. what a wonderful woman, she so brilliant!
he´s so rude :@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how is he rude. They're both having a great conversation. Stop projecting!!
Vance looks he voted for Trump....
Nah, he and Angela Bassett were huge Clinton supporters. He even gave her a shoutout in his Emmy speech.
