Angela has been in the game for the past 20 something years and I believe she is on the same level as Meryl Streep. Yet, she hasn’t won an Oscar?
Now you probably know why she hasn’t won an Oscar (ie 2020 Oscar nominations)
The Oscars has been over 90% white for almost the entirety of its existence, why would you expect Angela Bassett to have an Oscar? One one woman of color has ever won the Leading Actress award. Of the actors to win an Oscar, 75% have played racist stereotypes (which Angela refuses to play) and 75% have been supporting characters to white protangists. The damn system is rigged against creatives of color.

Sad thing is Will Smith messed up the rare event of a black person winning an award for a non-stereotypical role by living up to a stereotype.

So the most interesting part is that as an artist...Ms. Bassett said she wants to get something too from the fan encounter... as a fan we never think that the artist needs anything... I’ve never thought of it that way... how enlightening.

They had such different careers, but at this present moment... they really are really equals professionally. Dern is the white version of Bassett... and Bassett is the black version of Dern. Granted dern is a related to an established actor where as Bassett had to work hard for it...and not negating derns hard work to prove herself either... just different people, but in this moment, they're looking at each others eyes professionally. Just amazing pairing.
