Was not YET locked out, but forgot my backup key and skipping reminders to not rock the boat:
1:43 was what I needed! If you are still logged into Authy and have just forgotten the backup (and keep skipping it), you don't need multi-device. As long as at least ONE account is logged in (ie your phone) you can go to settings and change "Backup Key" to whatever you want - WITHOUT KNOWING YOUR ORIGINAL KEY! If you are trying to remember the process you used, it wants at least: 1 capital, 1 small letter, 1 number and 1 symbol - typical with most passwords, but having the requirements helps jog my memory so that may also help you. I was convinced that trying to change the key would lock me out since it might ask for my original, which would be a potential disaster. THANK YOU for a useful video!
I did not try entering the wrong password to the reminder, as I was afraid it would lock me out and prevent me from logging in, using it. or changing my backup key. If anyone knows what happens when you enter the wrong key once into the reminder - does it lock you out from then on until entered correctly? How many tries do you have to get it right? I'd love to know.
This app is steaming dog shit, after changing the backup key some of the tokens still need to be decrypted and password does NOT work.
Is this why Authy has "allow multi-device" set by default now? Maybe there have been numerous cases about this and they decided to enable it by default. I am going to get a new phone today, but I will keep the same number. Will update later to confirm this process. Your video is a godsend. Thank you so much!

Hi. I need a help. I have 2 devices. I have changed my backup password on my old device, however, whenever I enter that backup password on my new device it says "wrong password" and it does not decrypt my apps? Any reason for that?
I followed the instructions and reset the password on my other device. Yet when I try to decrypt on my current device it still says invalid password??

Thanks mate, yes I have tried both the Microsoft and Google authenticators but Authy is by far my favourite. Multi device support and backups make it hard to beat imo. These 2FA apps might be a thing of the past though with the introduction of passkey and google’s similar implementation. I hope to do a video on that soon but if you’re interested check out the Fido alliance. 👍
So I have my old phone with Authy. I for some reason didnt save/ write my back up password anywhere. In settings then accounts it says backup key not backup password. I still changed it and noted it down. I use it on my new phone and it still dosnt work. I have 3 accounts I cant get tokens for on my new phone

hey what is up big fam?... my problem is a bit different from the problem you addressed.. I still have my backup password but i changed phones and now i can't get past the number verification stage...it does not send a code rather says "phone verification failed" and the phone call option ain't helping either.. Support is not really helping ever accounted this good sir??

Hello, I did as you said for the multi device error but it tells me that they are going to send an email to an email address that I don't know, is this normal? has this happened to you?
I got inspiration to install authy on my laptop while my new phone doesn't work tho all the steps are correct, so installing on laptop it works

Im trying to change my back up password so i can use another device and activate my accounts. I still have my old device which i registered author on. When i follow your instructions into accounts, it only show how to change back up key (not back up password) I tried this any way and it didn't work. What can i do as there's no option to change my backup password. Only back up Key?

Hello i have formatted my mobile phone and I'm trying to login to my authy account and it logging me to the new authy account how can i get my old authy account
Have you heard of the situation when authy is installed on the new phone and suddendly the accounts are encrypted while those on the old phone are still not encrypted as the way they have been? This just happened to me. The only thing I did after dowloading authy onto my new phone was to go to its setting, security, and activated App Protection. However, I after I turned off App Protection (because I thought this might have created the issue), authy for my accounts are still encrypted. Please help. Do you know how to solve this issue?

What can I do if I lost my recovery code? the one authy gives you when you created the account.
Do I need to delete my account and make it over again or just reset my account to get a new recovery code? thanks for the help.

@@antoniossobhy53 If you don't have your recovery code or you have forgot it deactivate all your 2FA linked with Authy, and then send a ticket to Authy's support service, your account will be reset in a day or three max, and don't worry you'll be just fine dude, it's just that you'll have to start all your Authy 2FAs from scrath but that isn't too problematic in the end.

@@Pin2cool696 Just delete all your keys and start over, there's no problem with that, and if by any chance you're using a more personal 2FA like say an Steam one, you should send them a ticket to work this out, if at least you have access to the email associated with the acount in question any support team might be able to help you recover your password and set a new 2FA token.
So in conclusion, start over your Twilio Authy keys, and if the one you have it's currently native like an Steam of Blizzard one, work with the support team responsible of any account you might have via a support ticket.

Hello. I have an issue I can't seem to find anyone else struggling with. Maybe you know something I don't?
So I have anew phone. I have downloaded and authenticated authy to the new phone (not a new number). Enabled backups, I have the password. Everything is encrypted, but when I enter my password to decrypt I just get "incorrect password" from the new phone. I have tried changing the backup password on the old phone, restarting the phones, etc, without luck. So I can see all the accounts on the new phone, I just can't decrypt them. Any idea how I should move forward with this? I'll probably contact authy in a few days if I haven't figured it out.
Hi mate, definitely send Authy an email because I think what you've done should work. There's a section in the video showing how to send them an email. Use the little chat bot, keep clicking 'no this didn't solve my problem' and eventually you have the option to email support. Best of luck 👍

If you've forgotten your Authy backup password, I think you can change it in the Authy app without needing to know the previous password. Then you can setup multi device support. HOWEVER, I'M NOT 100% SURE, SO PLEASE CHECK WITH AUTHY SUPPORT BEFORE TRYING THIS. Send them an email; they will reply.

Support system doesn't respond to tickets, all they do is send automated replies and then ignore you forever. You should hit me up for help permanent recovery.
I had autthy put up on discord, removed the authentications from authy, but forgot to do it on discord. I only noticed now, when I got logged out and discord told me to authenticate, which I can’t do since the authentication on authy is removed. Is it anyhow possible to restore my account? I got all of the passwords and data, except for the authentication
Unless you still have access to your backup codes you basically lost your account permanently and have to create new one. Also Authy gives you 2 days to undo the action before it's permanently gone.
Hi. I changed my phone and had no issues getting Authy set back up initally. But now I also changed my phone number and while the account is still linked to the previous number I cannot change this to my current one. The app is not sending the verification message to my new number and I no longer have access to the previous one. What other option is there for me? :(

Only with the help of support. Unless you've got the app installed on a second device (e.g. a desktop) In that case you'll be able to change your phone number there.

Yep.. I'm so screwed. I have my master passcode written down but never even knew there was a backups passcode... da fook. My old phone is in the bottom of the ocean and I don't have access to any emails, or social media... :(
Really sorry to hear this. I’ve received lots of comments like this. So many that I think 2FA apps are probably not worth the risk. Better to just use an SMS code. I still use Authy but, yeah, you have to be so careful with passwords and backups.
I’m curious about the master password though? Is that for Authy? It might be worth contacting them.

Hi, sorry to hear you’re having trouble logging into your Facebook account. It’s very hard to provide an answer without seeing the issue. If you are sure your Facebook credentials are correct and your 2FA pin code isn’t working, I’m afraid your best bet is to contact Facebook.
