- Sarah Dalton was born with CHARGE syndrome, a rare condition resulting in 32 surgeries, three resuscitations, and countless scares for Sarah’s family in her 22 years of life so far. However, the physical challenges of living with CHARGE syndrome have paled in comparison to the bullying Sarah has experienced. Despite this, she is determined not to be defined by her differences. Sarah is now an avid equestrian, and a Special Olympics Global Messenger, class of 2019.

Yes she was a teacher and we can all learn a valuable lesson from her life. It’s terrible when people are bullied. We know right from wrong because we are made in God’s image and are moral beings. We know God exists because something can’t come from nothing, that’s a scientific impossibility. Have you ever of God’s law, the Ten Commandments? The ninth Commandment is DO NOT LIE. How many lies have you told in your life? The eight commandment is DO NOT STEAL. Have you ever stolen anything regardless of value? The third Commandment is DO NOT TAKE THE LORD’S NAME IN VAIN. Have you ever used God’s name to express disgust or anger? (OMG, Jesus) That’s called blasphemy when you take the name of God who loves you and gave you life and use it as a curse word. The seventh Commandment is DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY. Have you ever looked with lust or had sex before marriage? The punishment for sin is death and Hell. Jesus died on the cross to pay the fine for your sins. The only way to Heaven is repent(turning away from sin because you see how serious sin is and you turn to God.) and put your trust in Jesus. “Turn to God in repentance and have faith in the Lord Jesus.” Acts 20:21 The moment you do that you will have enteral life in Heaven.

As a nurse they misconveyed the "breathing " part. Charge dx patients don't have to "think " about breathing. It's still dictated by the autonomous nervous system .
D. DIY I actually do forget sometimes haha! It was a simple way of explaining one of my problems. Current research into how CHARGE effects the vagus nerve and cranial nerves is very informative, if you’re interested.

My son also has CHARGE Syndrome. He has hearing loss, ear anomaly, facial palsy and a speech impairment since he cannot bring his lips together. He has outgrown many problems. He had hypoglycemia for the first 13 mos of his life and a feeding tube until he was 2. He is a typical 17 year old who at this point is driving me crazy about buying a car! :) Sarah, you are adorable. THank you for sharing!

Like me, she can use elastic shoelaces. Then you don’t have to tie them, just put your feet in the shoes. Once you set them up, they don’t fall off - quite stable.

I will never understand what drives people to such senseless cruelty and Sarah is ten times the person they will ever be and I’m sure has contributed to the world than they ever will.
Sure I'm angry with that stupid bully. But hey, bullies are everywhere. But people like Sarah are stronger then a bully! Maybe not physically but mentally you are so much stronger.

She definitely has all the qualities I want in a good friend! I would definitely love to have her as my friend as well! She would keep my spirits high and keep me laughing every day! I also have had surgery a few months ago to enable me to swallow but unfortunately it only lasted a couple months so I'm back to incredible pain when swallowing and it takes me 3 hours to eat my dinner.
I have a daughter nine years old. Her name is Manuela. She was born with CHARGE syndrome. I worry a lot about her future. Dear Sarah I am impressed with your attitude, with your spirit. This video gives me hope for my daughter. Your parents, therapists..what to say they are WONDERFUL!!

My daughter was diagnosed with C.H.A.R.G.E. syndrome in 1977 shortly after she was born and Is one of, if not the oldest living person with CHARGE in the USA. CHARGE is very different from person to person, however there are certain aspects of the syndrome that are the same. My daughter is now 41 soon to be 42 OCT 14th, she has been married, has an associate degree, has a full time job (when her health permits) drives, and has had one child (her daughter died June 14, 2018-down syndrome ). She has lead a very independent life considering all of the surgeries and other complications associated with CHARGE. I write this to give hope to all the mothers and fathers that have children diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome. Hang in there, there is hope for your child, they can have a fulfilling life as long as you parents don't give up on them. Sarah Thank you for sharing your story with the world and I wish all the best to you and your mum and dad.

This reminds me of SBSK(special books for special kids) but they got there comments taken down for bull crap reasons and that’s sad i think interactions with disabled peoples help end discrimination against them. I love videos like this and i think her spirit is infectious!

That comment about instagrammable made me crack up because I photograph most of the dishes that I make and put them on Instagram so I can remember what types of dishes to prepare when I run out of ideas! This young woman is amazing! She could teach people twice her age alot of life's most important lessons. In the event Sarah by any chance is reading this, I want to give her something uplifting to the soul. I was bullied badly as a kid too. BUT as an adult I’ve had several of my biggest bullies apologize to me for bullying me. At some point we all have to face any harm we have caused in life. And they did. One of the worst of mine was in a really bad car accident after school and she had months where all she could do was think about who she was and who she wanted to be. It took 20 years but she apologized for hurting me. I’m so proud of you, Sarah. You are kicking butt.

Sarah, you seem to be always smiling and that is an inspiration. I can relate to your swallowing issues. My first husband had a stroke when he was only 28 years old and lost his ability to swallow for 5 months. He had a G tube also. When he started swallowing again he had to practice swallowing and had to think "swallow" every time he did. It took a few years for it to come more naturally, and even then if he were distracted by watching TV or something while he ate, he sometimes would choke. It was such a struggle for him and to see you going through that same thing on a daily basis is truly inspiring. You are a strong lady.
I am curious about one thing. Your mother said that you can't taste and yet you said you love cheese. What is it about cheese or other foods that make you like them. Is it the texture or the ease of swallowing? Or, is it that there are some foods that you can actually taste?
lornaduwn I thinks it’s that I know I eat a lot of food that has something to do with cheese so I assume I love it. Cheese cake, cheese sauce, Cheese and Ham pizza, Mac and cheese etc! Also cheese is easy to swallow too
@@SarahDalton96 Hey Sarah, hope you're still doing well! My mother had a pituitary tumor removed and it caused her to lose her smell and taste but she still loves junk food lol. It's one of the simple pleasures in life.
@lornaduwn 28 is too young to have a terrible thing like that happen. It really puts life in a radically new perspective. I was 30 when my rare genetic disorder became fully evident and you just look back before then and ask yourself how you could be unhappy when you had so much!
