    A couple of important things to point out:
    1. activating the ticket before you get on the train means you click activate as the train is arriving at the station. But......... make sure that the train arriving is your train. For example, the train arriving will have a digital sign saying something like Ronkonkoma, Port Washington, Port Jefferson, Long Beach, Babylon, Montauk, Greenport, etc. So, before you activate the ticket as the train is pulling in see what the train sign says as it is still moving and hasn't stopped. That is key because if you click the activate ticket and it's not your train, and your train is somehow stuck in a delay in a station before yours, your ticket will expire and your ticket won't be accepted on the train. It happened to me. So, if you want to make sure stand on the platform edge where the train enters so that when the train stops you enter the last train car so that you'll have time as the train enters to see the train name and it's destination and at the same time click your ticket activation button on your phone. Then, keep that screen on without touching the actual screen until the train conductor comes up to you and you show the conductor the blinking swirling lights of the ticket because the conductor does not have time to be waiting for you to pull up that screen. The conductor does not come to you right away. Sometimes the train will take off and the conductor won't check your ticket until the train has stopped in a few train stations. So, have your phone ready always. Also, if you close the screen after activating it, you may not be able to open that screen. So, just keep it open. One last thing, many riders that don't have internet on their phones won't be able to activate the ticket because in some stations there is no WIFI at the platforms when it's time to get your ticket activated and you'll end up having to pay cash for your trip even though you bought a ticket that you may not end up using in the future if you are a tourist. Make sure all those things are checked before you go to the train station and that your phone's internet is working properly. The best way to ensure that your phone has internet especially for tourists is buying a card like Verizon Paid Phone Card which costs I think about 35 to 50 dollars for one month so that you have internet, text and phone usage for 30 days. Tourists don't have cell plans in the U.S. So, that is something to consider. All of these measures only apply to getting on board the LIRR or Metro North trains in New York City. If you are using the regular MTA trains within the five NYC boroughs just buy a Metro Card and swipe it to enter the train stations whenever you want as long as you have at least the current train fare in your metro cards and you won't have to worry about activating or anything like that. Good Luck everyone. Vic, please pin this comment so that this comment remains on top so that it can help many avoid a lot of frustrations. Thanks.

    Can you use a monthly lirr or metro north pass on the subway?

    • @TravelWithVic
      @TravelWithVic  2 года назад

      Good question! Unfortunately, no. You have to buy a monthly subway pass on top of the monthly LIRR ticket.

      yes! you open the mta app and show you ticket on the app to the conductor, who walks up and down punching tickets. if you have any questions they would happily show you.
