    Back in the Neolithic era when I took PATH the price was 35 cents and the turnstiles took coins. People got very good at the quarter - dime drop, or occasionally the three dime - nickel drop. During rush hour someone who fumbled with their coins could cause major jam ups at the stiles. For a while the subway and PATH were both 35 cents but then the subway was raised to 50 cents. People in the know would take PATH in Manhattan between Christopher street and 33rd to save the 15 cents if going that route.

      Fresh NJ air is a bit of an oxymoron!
      And yes, NYC is behind the times with in-unit laundry due to the age of most apartment buildings. It’s only now that they’re being allowed with prior approval and if the location is close to a water source within the apartment (eg, sink or bathtub/shower).

    Thank you so much for this video! I'm taking the PATH tomorrow to meet up with someone and was having a lot of anxiety about it since I've not taken it before, plus only having rode the train once before. Learning about the limited routes on the weekend just saved me the headache of walking around trying to find the train from Hoboken to WTC. You're video was very informative even if you were limited to Lego. I'm feeling much more confident, huge thanks again!

    I used the PATH quite a bit during my high school, college, and post-college eras. They had the tokens back then, a little easier to use, just not as flexible as a MetroCard is used. Thanks for treating us from the Garden state with respect. We are also known as the Chemical state. It really isn't a bad place to live. You can stretch your arms without actually hitting someone.

    South Jersey and Philadelphia’s version of PATH is called PATCO which stands for the Port Authority Transportation Company a unit of the Delaware River Port Authority which operates one line between Lindenwold, New Jersey and Philadelphia via Camden. Their reloadable card is called Freedom.

    Very informative. The PATH trains is like the path between the heart of the metropolitan area; between the heart of the world's economy engine, NYC, Jersey City's downtown (the heart of the economy engine of NJ) and downtown Newark, (another economy engine of NJ and the east coast). Millions of people lives between these areas. Very important trains. No wonder, those trains are always packed of people. I have ride those trains before and I love it👍

    4:32 From Newark Penn Station to Newark Airport, take NJ Transit Bus 62, which goes directly to the terminals, without even need to take the Air train. It's a bargain and only takes 20 minutes!

      @@UrbanCaffeine It is/was. I could have hopped the PATH at WTC/Chambers but I honestly preferred the walk through the Winter Garden. Even in the winter it never got that bad. The ferry was a little respite after the hassle of the train into Penn and then the packed E train. This was pre-9/11 so I used to cut through the WTC underground mall… kind of sobering when I look back on it now… it was just part of the commute that I took for granted.

    JSQ-33: (Yellow) All day, via Hoboken on other times
    HOB-33: (Blue) Weekdays, replaced by JSQ-33 via HOB other times

    1973 is the first time I have heard about the PATH trains when I moved out of state from Staten Island to New Jersey. The three things I remember about the PATH trains 50 years ago were (1) you didn't buy tokens you put coins into the turnstiles (2) PATH cost 30 cents, NYC Subways cost 35 cents (3) The seats on the PATH trains were padded. Great video as always Thea! Another big thumbs up 😎👍 I loved the Mets cap in the background ⚾️

    • @russellgxy2905
      @russellgxy2905 Год назад

      Grandfathered in thanks to the Pennsylvania Railroad, I like to think that's where the WTC-NWK line gets its deep red color from. Not sure if you knew, but Exchange Place used to be a riverfront terminal for the PRR much like Hoboken. The PATH, or Hudson & Manhattan as it used to be called, would forward commuters into the city while Penn Station in Manhattan was for the more important long-distance trains.
      The Port Authority stepped in after PRR closed Exchange Place to make sure the system didn't go bankrupt. Funniliy, this means that PATH predates the MTA despite the system as a whole being slightly younger

    I ride the PATH a lot when I visit the area because it is the easiest way to get from Jersey to Lower Manhattan. But last time I rode the PATH, I got confused with the different machines. I lost $2.75 and I don't know how it happened. It took my money and no card. It's like NJ Transit, there are no instructions!! I have been yelled at by more than 1 bus driver and train conductor because I was trying to do something which only real New Jersey residents should be allowed to do!! But I have learned to take it with a smile. Word to the wise, never piss off your bus driver. He can make you get off in the weirdest places. The conductors own their rides!

    My best ways from Manhattan to Newark Airport:
    1. Midtown or where ever it is easy to get to Penn Station.
    NJ Transit Penn Station Manhattan to Newark Airport Airtrain Station.
    2. Lower Manhattan if in easy trip to WTC.
    PATH WTC to Newark. At Penn Station Newark go downstairs and out main entry and take a taxi. it is usually fast and worth the price (especially as you saved taking PATH.)
    There is an airport bus 'somewhere in Midtown. ' Hard to find, hard to get ticket from Agent and is better to use an app if you must. But I don't like where NYC pushed the NWK and LGA/ JFK busses away from across from Grand Central some years ago when they closed the street for bike station and pedestrians on the E side of the Park Ave. ramp. Bus companies also changed and to me those services are also worse. Horror to find where they stop to pick up at the airport terminals to come back. Esp. at night!

    Hi, I am watching all your videos... I will travel to NYC on the last week of June. My wife traveled on the last week of May. she had some problems.. 1- SHE SAYS THAT the airtrain metro card was not able to be loaded later with a 7day pass. she says its a different card from the metro card and she had to buy a second card. 2- she got on the bus in manhattan and was looking for he machine to pay, and it turns out, she had to pay BEFORE getting into the buss. 3- on the train from JFK to upper east side manhattan specifically at the Lexington and E train transfer to the GREEN 4 train. it said that late at night the trains are on the platform. she could not figure out where those traines where. She left the station, walked back in and nothing, so she left again and walked back in on another entrance where there was finally a booth with a person that told her how to navigate the train station at Lexington. uff it was a lot of time to figure that one out. 5- where to go shopping in NYC ? where to buy food at a good price to cook at your apartment ? 6- where to buy clothing and electronics at good price? 7- outlet stores ? I like your videos and I subscribed and I am watching them al... also... you should make.. .returning videos... from manhattan to JFK AND LGA AND EWR... 8- how to go to six flags in jackson newjersey I want to take my kids and I don't know if I should pay a hotel in new jersey for 1 night, because the only buss route that I am able to find, gets you there at 11:20 and the part starts at 10:30 and closes at 8 and the buss says it leaves at 8, but you can be inside your last ride in the park at 8 and actually exit a little later... so any thips are welcome. we love amusement parks.. well.. my kids.. I get dizzy now.

      I wouldn't risk it; look it up. PATH might be Port Authority, but their penalty on photography is pretty severe if you're caught doing it. Amtrak seem to be the same way. I've been approached for filming too much around all three Penn Stations (New York, Newark and Baltimore), as well as Washington Union Station. Yet the two times I've been to NJT's Hoboken Terminal, up close to the locomotives no less, I didn't seem to have any issue. It's weird.

      @@russellgxy2905 But why is that the case? Is it some outdated law that pre-dates smartphones? Or do they genuinely not want certain things about the PATH system visible to the public because it might be a security concern?

    Does anyone here know how to get back to Penn Station from USB Arena?? Thea, how about a video? I know there's a direct train FROMM Penn to USB but somehow it seems the LIRR hasn't opened a station for the return trip!

      Hi. According to alerts, there are only trains to and from the Belmont Park station (next to the USB arena) if there are events happening there. Otherwise, you can walk to the Queens Village station (about a 15-minute walk from USB arena).

      It's possible they they'll have service after the event. An alternative to walking could be taking an Uber to the nearest LIRR station that has service.

    So I can’t use my unlimited MetroCard to pay for PATH, right?

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 года назад +2

      Hi! That is correct. You can use your MetroCard but it will ignore the unlimited programmed on it and will charge $2.75 (if that same metrocard has money on it).

    Hi, our flight lands at lga but would be staying with a friend in Newark... originally thinking of just staying 1 night at times square and venture next day to newark. But i stumbled on this video... we arrive 8 pm lga -- would you say its a good idea to take the q70 route, train then transfer to path route? If so, could you let me know the exact steps please? im travelling with 12 yr old and 18 yr old teens (3 carry-ons with 3 backpacks). Appreciate your help.

    Thank you for your video! I just wonder. How crowded is PATH in the peak hours in the morning and the evening? I am afraid so many people are using it for commute. Is it practical and convenient to live in NJ and commute to NYC every day?

    • @russellgxy2905
      @russellgxy2905 Год назад

      If you live in the intermediate area between Newark and NYC, I'd say PATH is a good option. I've only ridden a handful of times, and I will say it can get fairly crowded during peak times. Even on a Sunday, I recall passengers on sitting on the floor on the run out of WTC. The cars are roughly the same size as the A Division trains on the Subway (cars on the 1-7 trains) so they can be pretty packed.
