  • This vintage Star Wars Dewback has been in my collection for a good few years now and I've been slowly finding the missing pieces for it. There are a couple of issues that I need to repair on him before it's ready for display like fixing the reins, removing paint and repairing the body. Let's get him fixed up.
    You can get the STL file for the saddle here:

    I actually like that 3D printed saddle more than the original. I never liked the closure on the original.

    Just pulled my Dewback out. Had it since I was a kid. The paint on the bottom looks just like yours if not a little thicker all over, up the neck and down the tail not just the belly. I however have none of the reign strap left just the muzzle/mouth part. Nice fix on the reign, going to have to go dig though my lego now. Also seeing those nails painted makes me wish Kenner had painted them to begin with.

    I love what you do. I’ve been off and on collecting toys, my whole life, but it is your videos that have truly motivated me to get back into it. My specialty and area of expertise is antique Japanese swords, which I do appraisals as well as translations for major study groups around the world. I think there is a direct parallel between what you do in the mentality of restoration of Star Wars figures and other toys and The restoration and repair of Japanese swords. 30 years ago when I started collecting Japanese swords, there is a very uneducated group of collectors that frowned upon the restoration and preservation of the sword. “ leave them as they’re found” Was a common theme among American collectors at that time. It wasn’t until the birth of the Internet and direct interactions with professionals from Japan that educated us Non-Japanese collectors that preservation was the key to keeping these relics around for hundreds if not 1000 years. In order to keep these beautiful toys, in a state preservation, there must be preservationists like yourself, so I truly appreciate what you do my friend. With all Collectible there will always be a group of people that only see the monetary value of things. That was certainly true with Japanese swords and is true with vintage toys. But there are many of us that believe there is a much greater responsibility of keeping these historical artifacts in a state of appreciation.
    I would like to become a patron of your page. How do I do this?
    P.S. great work!

      Thanks. That's really nice to hear. I use the term Wabi-Sabi a lot to describe what I do. Fixing things and enjoying their imperfections. There is no such thing as a mint toy. And the played with nature of them gives them a story that should be enjoyed. Cheers

    Ingenious. Never would have thought to use something like that to fix the reigns. It would be nice to see your attempt at making an entire set of reigns. The mold idea sounds like an interesting avenue to explore. Maybe use some cylicone to form the actual reigns. Not sure what could be used for that. Thats above my pay grade. Thanks for the video Dave.

    Nice fixes! My Dewback doesn't have the reins with it. I had to touch up the color on it, as the underbelly had paint rubs, but it's otherwise in great condition. Replacement reins go for crazy amounts of money when they show up on eBay, so I think that I may have to fashion my own eventually.

      @@carlo2384 I watch TheCrafsMan SteadyCraftin and he has an episode/ How to make action figure toys. This gives you instruction on making molds and a range of resins of soft to hard. His channel is very informative. I love Toy Polloi as well also informative about things I love. Being that Dave is very crafty, I think he would be good at creating molds from his existing toys to make repairs. The toy community is vast on RUclips. A lot of good info and great people here.

    Great work! If you wanted to be a bit extra, I suppose you could use a bit of epoxy to sculpt some texture to match the reins... or is the lego piece too thick? Excellent job matching the paint colour!

    I am absolutely doing this to my Dewback's reins soon! My harness is broken in the middle of the curve where the hands go but I'm sure the paperclip trick will work. Interestingly, my Dewback's claws are painted the same color as his belly so I'm wondering if some came that way after all?

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  9 месяцев назад

      I couldn't find any photos of dewbacks with painted claws. And the paint on this one was clearly not factory applied. So I am not sure about yours 🤷

    one question does using the technic pegs from Lego, work for all vintage kenners? ive seen some videos but i don't know if it would work on a cloud car pilot or max Rebo which have some pretty janky joints and even some ones that have fell off due to aging.
