I bought an 808TE and in the beginning it sounded (while unplugged) pretty quiet, dry and tight. But it was so playable that I played hours and hours and after about a month or two it completely opened up! It's almost as loud as my OM-28 or my old Taylors now...but as Andrea said, the guitar is so expressive and has so much dynamics, even unplugged. If my house was on fire and I could only grab one guitar it would be the Maton, and I'm talking about unplugged. It has a gritty tone where every string is present and punchy. The bass notes are really present, for a smaller body that's unusual, but the mids and trebles sing out too. It's like there's this natural compression that lets you hear everything. Everyone knows the Maton pickup is unbelievable, which takes it over the top of any other pickup system I've ever played, even those with combination mic and under saddles/bridge. Suffice to say, if there can be only one, it's my Maton.
I am Australian and live not far from the Maton factory and own several highly collectable models. I actually own a Maton BB1200 which is amazing Best guitars ever. Never ever hesitate to purchase a Maton guitar. As Aussies say they are ‘true blue’ the best.
For 24 years now, I have found and collected Maton guitars. I'm up to ten, and they have been the best, most trusty, versatile pieces of musical art - just so great to own.
@@norman-gregory My first time playing a Maton what impressed me was the tone - beautifully balanced, warm and mellow, just so soothing. The build quality is also excellent, they should stay very true even in tough environmental conditions. I had my guitar for ten years and took it in for a check / service / setup, but they took a look at it and gave it back, telling me there's "no need to spend anything on it, it's as straight as an arrow"... I really appreciated a shop that would turn away a paying customer out of honesty. Just sit down with one, if you can get one to try, and play it - see if it resonates with you.

What is your opinion on a pickup system which mixes transducers (piezos mounted on the guitar top), not an undersaddle piezo, and a microphone in the body?
Thank you very much for your question my friend , there are some really good ones out there... but i still think that this combination that Maton uses, is not only a lovely sounding one but also the most reliable and solid option... when you're a touring artist, a session musician or even someone that really has to trust your guitar anytime... i suggest this as the best possible option ❤❤❤

Hello Andrea and thanks for your video. Could you tell me the string spacing at the nut because I am 1.92 meters tall and that worries me because although I have thin and long fingers I may have problems. I don't think it would have them because the radius of 12 causes the spacing between strings to increase. And it also helps me that the string action is not high. I love this guitar but I would like to know the spacing at the nut because I think is very important. Whenever I try out a guitar I arpeggio the A major chord on the second fret and while I do it I play the lower strings above with my little finger; This way I check if I mute the high e string of the chord. I only know this way that the guitar doesn't suit me.
Great player. Confusing video. You show how you adjust the 5 series preamp, but then never show how it sounds with the final adjustment you make. Instead playing the signature model with the different, earlier version preamp. I have to admit that I do not like the thin quacky piezo sound that you are getting from the system.
Wow...brilliant playing. The guitar tone is fantastic.
Fantastic video, great stories and your joy of playing shines through 😊
Your Maton has been well worn in! It sounds wonderful and you play it so well.

Why do you like them?
I ask, as someone who's looking at these guitars.

If they’re good enough for Tommy Emmanuel, they’re good enough for anyone!
Please note that these are custom shop models, way above regular EBG808TE
Matons are great plugged in, shite unplugged

OK plugged in. Not so unplugged.
Great both plugged and unplugged, that's why they are the choice of so many leading fingerstyle guitarists.
