    Quill you are not playing a TCG, but a deck builder. Exhausting cards, when done right, is a good thing (exhausting strikes/defend gets rid of the weakest cards in your deck and only makes you draw good cards faster. Or in this game you can exhaust curses and wounds. True Grit makes small, quick cycling decks a lot more powerful because it makes curses & wounds less dangerous.

    • @skulldoxbox2
      @skulldoxbox2 6 лет назад

      I don't think he knows that if you upgrade it you get to choose what you exhaust.

    • @danielschneider5804
      @danielschneider5804 6 лет назад

      Yes but thats not really a necessity. You can usually steer an unupgraded true grit pretty well by deciding when to play ( if you only have strikes left then thats what will be exhausted or if you want to keep all of them play it last when your hand is empty and nothing gets discarded or if you want to keep everything and cant play everything dont play it at all.. ;) )

      Had a strange idea for a yu gi oh exodus deck. Don't play yu gi oh or any other tcg but know rules, ect. Just enough monsters to keep you alive and the rest of the deck consisting of traps and spells that allow you to draw constantly as well as 3 of each piece of exodus. Effectiveness would depend on how many draw cards there are in yu gi oh.

    • @chaosstar0644
      @chaosstar0644 6 лет назад

      If you mean Exodia, then you can only 1 of each piece can be in your deck.

      ChaosStar0 that's the one, also I dont play so didn't know that.

    Hey Quill, you probably wont read this but True Grit is great in its upgraded version. It gives 9 block and lets you pick what card to exhaust. That way you can exhaust the weaker cards/curses/debuffs in your deck which will make your deck much stronger the longer the fight is.

    The way to think about card draw isn't just that it increases the number of cards you can potentially play in a turn. More importantly, it also increases the chances of your hands having more diversity in its cards, which therefore increases the chances of you drawing the best cards on the turns where they're most effective (this is also true because it increases the rate at which your Deck cycles as Slay the Spire is a game with a Draw Pile/Discard Pile system instead of a single deck that you draw from each turn and shuffle cards back into when played/discarded). This is the entire reason why Snecko Eye is such a powerful Boss Relic; it's because it allows you to draw an additional 2 cards at the beginning of every turn and then cherrypick the best cards to play depending on the situation and various factors, including the randomised Energy costs. This is why I would've upgraded Pommel Strike instead of Bash. This is also the reason why taking and Upgrading True Grit would've been so good; Exhausting the less powerful/useful cards from your Deck allows you to cycle through your better cards more often (like Exhausting the 2 Wound cards I'd get each combat due to the Mark of Pain Boss Relic I also would've taken). With the Pommel Strike+ you would draw into True Grit more often, speeding up the optimisation of your Deck in combats. Would also have bought the Peace Pipe at the Merchant for this reason too, as Upgrading at Campfires isn't as important now that we have an Armaments+.
    The Ironclad has a lot of synergies like these that aren't very obvious to a new player, which is why I personally think the Silent is more friendly to new players.

  • @TaohRihze
    @TaohRihze 6 лет назад +1

    True Grit when upgraded makes you select which card to exhaust, making it quite potent. Getting rid of weaker cards in your hand to avoid drawing them later is a powerful mechanic.

    Saw NL playing this and ended up getting it because it reminded me so much of Dr. Deckenstein (which is also the only LD game I still keep installed and occasionally play... though now Slay the Spire has replaced it)

  • @SangerZonvolt
    @SangerZonvolt 6 лет назад

    True Grit can be usefull in decks that build wounds or have curses. If you upgrade it you can choose which card gets exhausted, so you can just keep exhausting the wounds and curses.

    Quill if you actually read these. Don't worry about hoarding potions, you always get one after a boss. You could have had lethal on the hex ghost that turn had you popped your strength pot. Also you are a silly man for not taking double strike. Other than that good vid, can't wait to see more.

    Advanced warning, I am not trying to backseat game but it might sound like I am.
    I am going to make a couple arguments as to why other choices could have been made in the first act.
    One, I would have taken body slam over clash for 2 reasons. The first reason is that you have impervious, dealing 30 damage and having 30 armor is a great turn especially early on. The second reason is that clash can become a dead card in most boss fights because of status cards and curse cards are even worse if clash is in your deck. Additional reasoning being that body slam upgrades to cost zero and it will never be dead because it is effected by strength.
    Two, you shouldn't have skipped double tap that fast, it is very rarely a dead card. Unless you just draw no attacks at all, and even then your deck has battle trance, the odds of it being dead are very low. I would have even argued that you could have gone for juggernaut in the of chance you can make a tank deck happen. The point I am trying to make is that your deck wasn't good enough and didn't have enough synergy to skip yet. While it is always an option to skip, you shouldn't do it that early usually.
    I would have gone Mark of pain instead of white rhino but that is way more of a situational thing. White rhino isn't bad but energy is great even at the cost of some dead cards. (Mark of pain is actually my favorite base energy increase relic after Sozu, the other ones hurt way more)
    In the end, this is just my advise after playing a while, so do what you want Quill. It was a good video.

    • @vipertooth3933
      @vipertooth3933 6 лет назад +2

      Yeah, that double tap skip hurt. You only need 1 attack in your hand to make it useful and it's so good with 2 cost cards.

    • @fred321
      @fred321 6 лет назад +1

      Clash synergises with some cards that exhaust other cards, so it's far from useless even against bosses that use status. It's really bad when you have cards that give you wounds, and some curses already in the deck, but on his deck when he got the option, it was a great card.

    • @brianfried5347
      @brianfried5347 6 лет назад

      skulldoxbox2 I agree with you completely, I play this game myself and even tho I'm not that good at it u still understand synergies and stuff (even tho I missed the body slam thing)

    • @skulldoxbox2
      @skulldoxbox2 6 лет назад +2

      @Frederico Augusto
      Clash isn't a bad card but, the amount of work needed to make it work throughout the game is sometimes a justification for not picking it up. Mark of pain and red key show up all the time and they are usually the best option, both of those can kill clash. It makes any option to take a curse more painful even though the rewards can be amazing.
      I think clash is mediocre and body slam was the better pick long term.

    • @fred321
      @fred321 6 лет назад

      "both of those can kill clash"
      Look, having 2 wounds in a 25 cards deck would make clash useless in about 2 out of 5 hands. That's far from killing clash, if you can play clash once every 2 times you draw it, it's still amazing. Clash is only really bad in decks where you are constantly drawing 10 card hands with lots of statuses or curses (evolve, for example). This is way too specific! I ran clash all the time with mark of pain, and it's still very useful. When I grab red key, usually I try to get rid of some of the curses I get, so clash+red key is no problem at all.
      Also, despite having negative synergies, clash synergises well with immolate, true grit, burning pact, corruption, second wind...

    oh, it's not terribly hard to build crazy synergies with the silent, i think it's more about what you've unlocked and what happens to come up with all the RNG options.
    i mean, some folks swear to the ironclad being drastically stronger, others say the same thing about the silent, so... YMMV.

    I would definitely gotten Anger and then gone for pommelstrike to draw more anger. Then exhaust cards to removr non-free cards.
    This game looks amazing - I love deckbuilders! My gaming group plays a lot of Dominion.

    • @skulldoxbox2
      @skulldoxbox2 6 лет назад

      While that is good for most of the early and even mid game. Anger in the late game doesn't do enough damage unless you have a huge amount of card draw or unceasing top.

    • @Dante4F8
      @Dante4F8 6 лет назад +1

      skulldoxbox2 anger does not do enough damage...
