Restoration - Historic ENGLSWERK mill from 1920

  • Welcome to today's video.
Today we renovated the historic ENGLSWERK grinder for grating not only hard bread, but also nuts or cheese. The mill was made by a factory in the city of Foche. The factory was founded by a young Emil Engels in 1892. His first sales product was a pocket knife and other knives for the hotel industry. Over time, various kitchen and household appliances were added, but also toys, clocks and other products.
And now let's do a test of our historical grinder :)
And why breadcrumbs? In our family, we love schnitzel, whether it's chicken or pork, it's a very simple and quick thing for which you don't need a recipe.
This simple combination of meat, flour, egg and breadcrumbs conquered gastronomy long ago. And what is its history?
The history of schnitzels is longer than we think. It is claimed that they already prepared schnitzels in medieval Greece, which reached Italy via Arabia and Spain.
A few centuries passed and the Czech nobleman Josef Václav Radecký from Radče, who was the most important military leader of the 19th century, was appointed commander of the Austrian army in Italy and there he fell in love with the Milanese schnitzels, Cotoletta alla Milanese, he presented this very popular dish to Emperor Joseph I. the chef omitted the cheese when preparing the schnitzel, and the Viennese schnitzel was created. Over time, it became a gastronomic hit that took root throughout Central Europe.
And I would say that it is in the top three most popular dishes in the Czech Republic.
    And that's all for today.

I just finished eating and then your wife mentioned schnitzel. When she described it I knew instantly that it was what my mom called breaded pork chops and breaded skinless chicken breasts, legs, thighs, ... which she fried in butter. YUMMY!!!! And now I am drooling again. I haven't had that for years. My mom, who died many years ago, was an excellent cook.

At least there´s an area in our city called Foche and there once was a pretty large company called "Engelswerk" (owned by a C.W. Engels), which was known for their knives, but they made kitchen helpers, toys and quite some other stuff as well.
