Restoration - Historic ENGLSWERK mill from 1920

- Welcome to today's video.
Today we renovated the historic ENGLSWERK grinder for grating not only hard bread, but also nuts or cheese. The mill was made by a factory in the city of Foche. The factory was founded by a young Emil Engels in 1892. His first sales product was a pocket knife and other knives for the hotel industry. Over time, various kitchen and household appliances were added, but also toys, clocks and other products.
And now let's do a test of our historical grinder :)
And why breadcrumbs? In our family, we love schnitzel, whether it's chicken or pork, it's a very simple and quick thing for which you don't need a recipe.
This simple combination of meat, flour, egg and breadcrumbs conquered gastronomy long ago. And what is its history?
The history of schnitzels is longer than we think. It is claimed that they already prepared schnitzels in medieval Greece, which reached Italy via Arabia and Spain.
A few centuries passed and the Czech nobleman Josef Václav Radecký from Radče, who was the most important military leader of the 19th century, was appointed commander of the Austrian army in Italy and there he fell in love with the Milanese schnitzels, Cotoletta alla Milanese, he presented this very popular dish to Emperor Joseph I. the chef omitted the cheese when preparing the schnitzel, and the Viennese schnitzel was created. Over time, it became a gastronomic hit that took root throughout Central Europe.
And I would say that it is in the top three most popular dishes in the Czech Republic.
And that's all for today.

100 years old and just as efficient as a modern electrical beast. Loved the demo and the history session. Well done!!
Before, things were done properly and with love. Today, the love in those plastic products for people to look at. Thanks Tim :)
@@VeradonaRestoration Thank you for *your reply comment to Tim Grenville-Cleave* right here ya, Veradona Restoration 😉👍
Awesome end result and very important history infos 👌👍
Thank you friend for the comment :)
Every time I see your wife doing the demonstrations at the end of your videos it makes me smile she is so adorable.
Thanks :)
I just finished eating and then your wife mentioned schnitzel. When she described it I knew instantly that it was what my mom called breaded pork chops and breaded skinless chicken breasts, legs, thighs, ... which she fried in butter. YUMMY!!!! And now I am drooling again. I haven't had that for years. My mom, who died many years ago, was an excellent cook.
I'm sorry my friend. Moms are the best cooks :)
From an age when beauty was almost as important as function. Highly efficient & beautiful. Plus an educational explanation & demo. Thank you both.
Thank you so much :)
What a brilliant restoration. Its amazing that earlier creators made an piece of art from kitchen utensil. Now its just a kitchen utensil.
Yes I agree. It used to be apparently made with the heart. Today with a wallet...
And yet once again you've taken something that looked like trash and made it into something that probably looks better then it was made for sale. The history lesson provided by your wife was good and much I've never known before. Thanks
Thank you so much Bob :)
The history lesson on these beautiful devices is my favorite part of the video.
I'm glad, thank you :) Veronica
Schnitzel? Oh boy!
I'm thinking, "Yes!" for this winter.
👉😉
It's better than when it was new. Excellent job
Wow, thank you David :)
I admire the craftsmanship of these older devices. Functional yet artistic at the same time. Nice video.
I'm glad my friend, thank you :)
Absolument magnifique!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had an absolute 💩day at work .This restoration and history was just the thing I needed..😀😀😀😍
Wow, thank you, that made me happy :)
Hard work perfect detailing

The carving on the parts is amazing, they were craftsman of a bygone era.
Yes I agree Keith :)
Staré věci byly krásné a po zrestaurování to vypadá perfektně. Úžasná práce, obdivuji takové lidi, kteří vrací věcem jejich původní podobu.
Děkuji Evo :)
Nicely done. Still makes bread crumbs after all these years.
Thanks Stephen :)
I love the ornate detail on these cast iron pieces. It shows how simple everyday items can also be a thing of beauty.
Thanks :)
I love snitzel too. I hadn’t thought of using my little “nut grinder” for bread crumbs! Wonderful!!!
Thanks Wanda, yes I think the grinders only differ in size.

Thank you very much for watching, have a nice day from the Czech Republic.
Krásný litinový mlýnek není nad domácí strouhanku. Taky si ji doma meleme mlýnkem sami. Řízek z krkovice, domácí brambory, nebo kaše a domácí sladkokyselá okurka, hmmm, dobrota. Pavel 🇨🇿
Hm, dostávám hlad Pavle 😛
@@VeradonaRestoration nejlepší jsou brambory pasírované přes 🐷. 😀😀
@@pavelkoudele5526 Ano, přesně tak je mám rád 😁😁 to je jedna z mála situací kdy si ty brambory i přidám 😂😂

Excellent restoration 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Be safe🇨🇦
Thank you :)
That grinder was made just a few kilometers from where I live.
At least there´s an area in our city called Foche and there once was a pretty large company called "Engelswerk" (owned by a C.W. Engels), which was known for their knives, but they made kitchen helpers, toys and quite some other stuff as well.
Great, that'll be it :)
I do enjoy the bit of history added in the end, well done
I'm glad, thank you :)

Such gorgeous Art Nouveau detail -- can you imagine a manufacturer today putting in so much effort on a utilitarian piece like this? Thanks for restoring it to its former glory!
Few people would pay that nowadays...
@@VeradonaRestoration, of course not. But beauty is worth something and ugliness degrades our souls.

I like those objects you restore that have figures in the cast iron. They have an added touch of glamour. It used to be that everything that was made had an extra beauty to it. Veronika and Radek, thanks for another great restoration and the comments too.
Thanks a lot my friend :)
I love the sandblasting, especially of the designed areas. Then you can appreciated them. You really do find some unique items to restore! Great job! 👍 👏
Thank you so much Annette. Yes, you can save a lot of effort by piling, especially in hard-to-reach places.
