- This video is a basic instructional video on how to upgrade the hard disk drive in your PS4 and transfer all user accounts and data from your old drive to the new one.
Thanks for a well informed video. I now have the confidence to upgrade my sons PS4 hard drive.
You did have a lot of patience to make the video. It's well explained and noob friendly! Great one again mate!
+tuner200i Cheers mate!
Andrew Paul if my profiles aka psn accouts transfer, dose my trophies transfer two?
+Taven Dellos yes they will.
Andrew Paul okay cool i get nervous when i do these kind of things cause i dont want to lose anything u know
Great video and thanks for the help. I switched mine out for a 5TB HDD and no issues so far and the wake from suspend works for the Avolusion 5tb kit. I was getting stuck in system update loop, and I had to boot into safe mode and choose option 6) reinitialize system and it boot right up. Thanks mate!
No problem at all mate - glad it's all working for you. Nice choice of upgrade there too!
great video mate!
Wow, this was really useful. Now I know why I couldn't use my External HDD, thanks!
Many thanks :-)
Very helpful...thanks alot
hey so when it comes down to the users do I lose them when I upgrade the HD? if so how can I prevent that? because I have about 4 users on the system and I don't want to lose all that info.
First: Great explanation on the OS installation, very clear. I've been looking for information on transferring the games as well. The PS4 uses backup/restore (after backing up to an external drive) to move the games to the newly installed drive.
What I'm thinking is that I can cut the external drive out of the equation, (since the PS4 HDD will be acting as my external HDD) and just use a usb/sata cable to transfer the games and system information back in.
My intention is to:
1. Download the PS4 OS to my flash drive.
2. Remove the PS4HDD from the PS4.
3. Install the Firecuda to the PS4.
4. Upload the PS4 OS to the Firecuda.
5. Connect the PS4HDD-via usb/sata connector-to the PS4 and restore to the Firecuda.
I'm a little unsure that "restore" may not work since I didn't back up right from the ps4, and i'm merely trying to transfer games and system information, without actually backing up.
Do you think this will work or am I going to really foul things up? Thanks for your input!
Yeah that's not going to work sadly. As far as I know it needs the backup to be taken via the Backup/Restore feature otherwise it won't find a valid restore location even if it's directly from its own former hard disk.
you can also use acronis and clone the drive, then if the new one is a larger drive just use dism management in windows to extent partition, done.
Is it possible to swap between hard drives to just switch between different games. I mean like if I have MKX on one hard drive and uncharted on another, can I just swap out the hard drives to play certain games, or will it restore the hard drive every time
Hello sir, what if i have more than 1user(account) on my ps4 will that also be included in the backup? Or just the main user?
Can i back up the data on the same thumbdrive with the firmware update or does it have to be separate
bought a SeaGate 2TB External HDD because I want to backup my data from my PS4 incase anything happens. Do I have to format from my PC first and do I choose Exfat or FAT32?
Good video. Does this transfer all PSN accounts and profiles and copy all the game saves? I have multiple PSN account profiles on my PS4. Thanks.
Yes it should do so.
Thank you
Thanks for the really helpful video. I’m planning on upgrading my SSD soon. Do you know if the backup and restore function will save game files for all accounts on the system or just the primary?
As far as I'm aware it should do the lot.
@@AndrewPaul Thank you. 🙂
will it work on game shared account?
Will this keep game shared accounts?
Hello to me I get the error ce_33310-0 of a damaged file, you know why that happens to me when I want to restore my ps4 with the backup I hope you can help me
Great Video Andrew Could i Request a Video In Regards to nyko databank to find out what the maxmum hard drive we can install my ps4 is the first edition day it came out
+Alex Mehrgan Hi mate, according to the Nyko website, the device supports up to a 2TB hard disk drive.
nyko.com/products/playstation-4-data-bank
+Andrew Paul Ive Just Bought The Nyko Device now waiting for it to arrive what hdd be best to install 2.5 or 3.5 for the future i heard 3.5 is alot better
Nice video. I have one question. After i transfered all the data to the new harddrive, do i have to enter my password of the account again because i dont want to lose the p.t. demo which is on another account where i do not have the password and the email adress.
Good question my friend - of that I am honestly not sure. I would imagine you would on first logon but it's not something I've tried as yet to confirm.
Would I be able to do this if my ps4 is forever stuck in safe mode
So I can backup all my PS4 users by just backing it up on one account?
hej dude
on what step do i make sure so i transfer my accounts to? And how do i transfer account with usb stick because i dont have a external harddrive. And how big does my usb need to be.
USB storage needs to be larger than the size given by the PlayStation which will be backed up. You don't need Application Data as such so you can exclude that if you want to. Everything like users / game save data etc will then be copied to your external storage.
can do it with a laptop??????
nice video but I have one question... if I bought stuff from the PlayStation Store and deleted it because I didn't have enough space would it still be in the purchase history of the account after the upgrade??????
Yes it will.
+Andrew Paul OK thanks man nice video
Andrew Paul what about DLC content and background themes and trophies?
Can I just use my new 2tb external drive to store all my old games and then place them on my pc then switch my old memory drive with the newest drive and place my old games from the pc and store it back to my old drive and then put it back in the new drive?
Never tried it to be honest but you can give it a go. If you want to use a smaller drive, just leave the application data out - it'll reinstall and download again afterwards anyway - only really the game saves and profiles etc you'll really need.
I have a fantom drivers 1tb external drive and I tried to backup my ps4 but it can't pick up the drive. I don't know why.
It needs to be a FAT32 formatted partition which probably won't be feasible on a 1TB disk. Try exFAT but failing that, you'll need to create a smaller partition as the first partition on the drive, format that to FAT32 and it should then be seen.
can you use your old hard drive that came out of the ps4 to restore your new hard drive ?
+FrankenTruck Chevrolet You can - that's what we're doing here. You will need to use the PS4 to backup that drive to an external disk first though as shown.
If you have ps+, will you saves still be there after I change the hard drive?
Thats what im wondering any answers?
Hi, provided your saves are successfully synced to the cloud prior to upgrading, they'll be retrieved once you've swapped your drive out and logged back into your PS+ account.
I looked at this video because my brother's PS4 blew up. He wants his data back, such as downloaded games and save game data to put on his new PS4.
Is there a way to do this?
Facing the same issue have a hard drive I want to put in from a previous PlayStation but can't access that PlayStation how do I transfer those files
Hey, My original cable got broken, I use another micro cable but It does not get connected. Do u know Why??
Which cable are we referring to?
Only 1 backup for all users?
No luck tried Easeus partition manager the space I are trying to sort out still says unallocated and can't do anything with it could I go back into disk management on Windows and try extending the original partition would that work.
+Colin Sommers Hi Colin, yes you should be able to reclaim that space. Maybe this might help?
www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/63953-63-unable-create-partition-unallocated-space
+Andrew Paul Thanks for your help i think i have sorted it out.
Hi Colin, if you don't mind me asking, what did you have to do in the end?
+Andrew Paul Hi I ended up copying the contents of said drive into another,, then deleted volume and then formatted drive and then converted it to a Gpt disk, then i copied back original data onto said drive, and then shrink a new volume which I formatted as Exfat have since backed up Ps4 seems to be ok, but won't know for sure till I swap over hard drives in Ps4 and put data back on fingers crossed. Cheers!!
I'm gonna transfer my data like this
when i replaced the hdd with the nrw 1tb it says in the system storage management that i only have 861.3 Gb only, why is that?
The actual file system will take up quite a bit of space along with the system partitions so that's normal :)
Andrew Paul ok thank u alot
No problem.
So do I need to have 2 separate hard drives and a USB?
Hard drive #1 - to backup applications
Hard drive #2 - installed into PS4
USB - to save account and game data
If so this is really annoying as I literally bought a new 2TB HDD, found an old HDD but need a SATA cable to even use it :/
I'm really hoping I could use the orignal HDD in the PS4, backup the data there. Take it out, install new one and from the oringal extact the data as recovery.
Just two hard disks my friend - one for the backup and a new one to install into the PS4. The one for backup only needs to be as large as the data you're trying to backup.
The USB stick is to apply the system software update (approx 900mb) so a 2GB stick should suffice.
Andrew Paul Hi I'm on windows 8.1 i shrank part of my volume but the second stage new simple volume is blacked out any ideas please
+Colin Sommers Hi Colin, Is your external drive initialized as an MBR or GPT disk? If all else fails you could try Easeus Partition Manager (free) to create the partition if Windows won't.
It's on a separate external 4TB drive was trying to use part to backup Ps4 as you did in your video was going to format part of it as fat
Ah that'll be the issue then - try using Easeus rather than Windows and see if that let's you do it. Windows can be funny manipulating partitions on large GPT disks.
I will try that Cheers!!!🍻
if this transfers my account dose it transfers trophys to?
Yes.
In theory would this save all the passwords too?
As far as I know it does, yes.
Can you just reset the ps4 if you don't have a extra hard drive
Sure, but you'll lose anything that was on the disk drive to begin with unless it's backed up to the cloud via a PS+ membership.
@@AndrewPaul I just reset it no memory loss
Does this keep dlc
Should do but they're tied to your account anyway so would re-download without further charge.
hey so when it comes down to the users do I lose them when I upgrade the HD? if so how can I prevent that? because I have about 4 users on the system and I don't want to lose all that info.
