Doesn't work, deletes the data to initialize as the new primary. Can't restore from previous A because that was the original data. So I need to Backup A to C. Then Place a fresh Hardrive B as the new primary A. Restore from the backup C Hardrive. Correct?

    Thanks for making this guide. Wished I watched this before swapping the hdd on my ps4. I made the mistake of thinking you could transfer your capture gallery from an external hdd back into the ps4 without the restore feature. It's not a huge problem. All the info is still there on the old hdd. It's just a matter of reconnecting it to the ps4 and it using the restore program if I want my captures on the new hdd.

TBH I am not even the one in the family who plays on the PS4 all that much. My son and wife do. lol I'm on my PC. :) I just did the upgrade and thought it would make for a good video b/c they were running out of room.
      I found this on Playstation's site: Trophies are not included in the backup data. To save the trophies you've earned to PlayStation™Network servers, select (Trophies) from the function screen, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Sync with PlayStation Network].
      And also check out this Reddit Thread: www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/6ltib3/trophy_screenshots_after_backup/

    • @MiddleofKnowhere
      @MiddleofKnowhere  4 года назад

      Hi and thanks for watching! So yes, you have to format the SSD that's going into the PS4, you have to format the back-up and I also believe you have to format the Thumbdrive. Don't quote me on the latter two drives 100%, I've not watched my video fully in a while, so watch all the way through just to be 100%. I figure though if you're backing up the PS4, then yes the backup also needs to be formatted.
      Just remember, PS4 can only read exFat or Fat32 so I'm inclined to say all 3 need to be formatted.

      If it fits in the slim, you could prob use the old 2tb. I don't know if there will be any issues tbh. My advice is to update the 2tb drive as much as possible in terms of PS4 OS software/firmware, then update the new PS4 SLIM (unsure if there even is firmware but you never know) then swap away and see what happens. Shouldn't be an issue IMO.

    • @MiddleofKnowhere
      @MiddleofKnowhere  6 лет назад

      Hi there. I'm not really sure what you mean by backing up disc games. Are these merely games you've bought physically and require a disc in the system when you play versus a download from the PS4 store? If the former, I'd assume you only need to back-up your saves and not the actual games, but this would mean you'd have to re-install them later. If this is possible. Your question might be better suited for Sony themselves, and I'd recommend contacting them directly.

    I wanna do this for my ps4. I was planning on getting an external hard drive then opening it to make it an internal. Could I back up my ps4 on to the external, then take it apart and use it as an internal and the data still be there from the back up? or do i need 2 separate hard drives?

    • @MiddleofKnowhere
      @MiddleofKnowhere  5 лет назад

      That's a great question. I'd assume that you're not cloning the hard drives but rather doing some kind of compressed backup, so it may not work. From what I understand of your post, you want to back up to the external, take the enclosure apart then pop that hd into the PS4 and use it? You might be able to. If you don't mind tinkering around give it a shot. You can go as far as the back-up, swap HDDs then see what happens. If it doesn't work, just put the external back in its enclsoure and get a 2nd hdd for the ps4 .

    • @fireboyshadow93
      @fireboyshadow93 5 лет назад

    • @MiddleofKnowhere
      @MiddleofKnowhere  5 лет назад

      @@fireboyshadow93 There shouldn't be. You should be able to take apart most enclosures. One thing you could do is buy a 2.5" hdd, then buy an external enclosure. this way you won't have to deal with any proprietary connectors or anything.
