Tom Petty doing solo or playing with the Heart Breakers and Mudcrutch . His music was somehow different . His writing, the way he could do the talk while singing few performers are able to do it. His music went deep into you. When he passed it hurt . It took a long time to not tear up when I heard his music. Miss his Southern drawl . Died too young in my opinion. Screw the saying “The Show Must Go On. “ Could have taken the time to have his hip fixed. He’d still be here. Rest well Tom

Tom was one of the last great American rock-n-roll song writers and he is an absolute national treasure. Imagine seeing The Beatles on TV and knowing right then and there that you're gonna do something special and then 30ish years later you've got 2/4 of The Beatles playing in your music video. He was one of those people who was in the right place at the right time and I'm so happy that he gave us such wonderful music and memories.

I could certainly believe it's the last truly great "Rock n roll" album. Music has evolved so much throughout the years, there doesn't even NEED to be another Rock n roll album. This style has already been done by the best, why regress?

I didn’t know very much about Tom Petty the man, the musician, but I ALWAYS felt in my heart that he was a very special man. Almost holy judging by the sensitivity of his song writing. His melodic voice, Perfect pitch. I am amazed at the kindness he showed to others and am so sad that he’s gone. He never would’ve wanted to leave the music, the people he loved behind. But he’s gone. I have carved out a special place in my heart that belongs to Tom. And am a fan for life. Thank you for this beautiful portrayal of the genius, Tom Petty.

In college, my roommate exposed me to Damm the Torpedos. I wore out the album. I saw Tom at Universal Amphitheater in LA. One of my favorite memories was Tom seating on a speaker why'll the whole crowd was singing "Breakdown" from beginning to end. The smile on Tom's face was priceless. Tom earned my respect when he fought the record company to reduce the album price. He truly was all about the fans. I saw Tom a few more times over the years. This documentary brings back amazing memories. Thank you.

I've been a fan for 40+ years, first listening to Damn the Torpedoes on vinyl in my dorm room at the University of Tennessee. I taught myself how to play guitar when I was 10, and have incorporated many of Tom's songs into my repertoire. The only time I saw him and the Heartbreakers live was in Raleigh, NC and it was the best concert of my life.
When Tom passed, both my children called me to make sure I was okay, knowing how much a part of my life his music was. They had grown up on it, and have both become accomplished musicians, influenced, in large part, by Tom's music.
Thank you, Tom, for everything ❤ I feel blessed to have been alive while you were here 🙏 ❤ ✨

@@justincoffey8718 I lived in Hess in 1979, and then moved to Melrose the following year. In fact, at the time I believe all freshmen had to live in Hess for the first year. When I arrived in January of '79 (transferring from ETSU in Johnson City), they didn't have enough rooms for the incoming freshmen, so they put beds in the commons rooms and put us up there. I lived there for the first few weeks with two young ladies who would become my best friends throughout my time at UT.
I had a roommate for the first year at Melrose, and then scored a coveted single room until I graduated in 1982. It was tiny, but I loved the privacy and the view. I was right across from the library and could see the stadium from my window. The World's Fair was in Knoxville in 1982, and I could see the nightly fireworks from my window as well.

My thoughts entirely, such a great album. Of all the rock star deaths of the last decade, nothing hurt me so personally quite like Tom Petty passing on.. I shed a tear, and still find it hard to believe he’s not hear anymore. The soundtrack of my life, I came to his party late being only 45 now, grew up with the mtv era free fallin and I won’t back down, wilburys period.
But being a musician myself now, and I’m a band currently playing with a member of The Zombies, who I know Tom and the band loved, feel a small connection to him somehow. Never got a chance to see him live either. A true Bonafide Rock legend of the Highest order.

I had listened to Wildflowers for years and loved it but I had not listened to it in a long time at that point. Anyway, I’m making this drive and I’m so sad. Something caused me to dig up my copy of the record, just some random thought in my head said, “yeah, you should listen to that right now” and soI put it on. Suddenly I wasn’t alone in the car and it seemed as if Tom was talking to me, commiserating with me and validating all the feelings I was experiencing. It was so revelatory and it immediately made me feel supported. No album has ever had an impact on me like Wildflowers and I am so very grateful to my dad for sending it to me back when I was in college. And I am so very grateful to Tom for making it. Oh, and this documentary was beautiful.

He truly was a legend of rock n roll. It's a shame this Rick Rubin came in a changed his sound. He was acting like he helped mold tom petty but every album before Rubin got involved with him was a hit. How many hits were made after Rubin came around? Not as many if any . Goes to show you what the industry can do to someones personal sound. He should have steered clear of him and he would probably still be here rocking us . Rip Tom

It just guts me whenI think of how much pain he must have been in and still kept performing until his hip finally went from having a crack, to having a break, because disappointing his fans was worse, to him.
All you have to do is pull up any concert footage and see how much the fans loved him and how he genuinely was touched and... Humbled... By the affection. Then he'd just become the guy on stage performing to 20k of his closest friends, telling jokes and being on fire all night.
He left it all out there, I don't think he ever held anything back. Performing while injured, and no one knew. I don't think it was possible for him to pull back and give it 70%, he couldn't give less than 💯.
I so love Wildflowers and Everything After. Talk about a love letter to the fans. I got to see him in concert twice, but that is not MY most treasured memory of him.
    (no. I never met him)
When I moved from Utah to CT. I knew 2 people.
I had my dog, Ashley, (center of my universe from puppy-hood, 🖤 Collie/ G Shep mix) my prized 5 disc changer stereo (the first item I bought because I wanted and I could afford it, and the music was all from a used cd exchange I worked next door to.) I was done with college, working, no debt, but living paycheck to paycheck. I just NEEDED a dramatic change, and I seized my moment. Anyway it was us, my music, my air mattress, some clothes & my car.
I arrived at the end of a 5 day drive (I lost my debit card on day 3 and had to panic and fix that on day 4.) and met my friend/ new boss at about 8 pm 12/31/98.
We celebrated the new year, my new life with new friends, and THEN my friend told me the apt we'd arranged had fallen through at the last moment, but she would find somewhere to live, DON'T PANIC.
I've never sobered up so quickly in my life. I'm pretty high strung, panic is pretty much my resting state. I wake up every morning with my jaw and fists clenched. Kind of a full body clench. Now elevate that and keep it there 2 months.
I did end up about 45 minutes away, staying with a COMPLETE stranger who was the ex- husband of my direct supervisor. Super nice guy to whom I'm grateful, but it was mortifying.
To make it more awkward, it was his 5yo son's room, so I was sleeping in his Corvette bed. At least the kid had TV and cable, so the 5 yo had me beat. Ashley was a champ, best dog ever.
I lied and told myself parents I couldn't afford a phone line yet so I'd just check in with them Once a week. I think I was 26, but if they knew my living situation, I had no doubt my dad would show up to drag me home. I'm 49, now, so it is probably safe to tell them.
It took 2 months but the most perfect place kind of feel into my lap when the electrician at work heard about my situation, and being a sweet, elderly gentleman made me a sweetheart deal.
It was close to work, we had a deck, nice little apt. The first night I saw fire flies for the first time and we ran out to the greenest yard and I was alone and I took my first breath in 2 months. This huge weight just lifted off my back.
I hooked up the stereo, loaded up Full Moon Fever, cranked it to 11, and Ashley and I sang and danced to The Apartment Song on repeat for about 30 minutes before moving on to the rest of the music, inflated my bed and crashed.
I have such a clear memory of that night and I spent it with my Ashley, and Tom Petty. No one else on the planet knew where I was, and I mean WHERE on so many levels. I was not lonely, and I wasn't someone's burden and it was a perfect day, without a tv or furniture or a toaster..
I know, dumb and long, but it is my best Tom Petty memory.

Thanks again to Tom's family/management for the selfless act of uploading this movie to RUclips. I couldn't find it again but I saw a comment on this video asking anyone to go out and create art, not worrying if it was good the first time. At the beginning of this month I was assigned to write a poem about something that touched or stayed with me; it may not be the best but perhaps anyone who reads will appreciate the sentiment.
It had been my dream since I was six,
To score some of his concert tix
It had been my one and only dream
And the first concert I had ever seen
    On May 17, 2017.
So when the radio gave free tickets away,
I knew it was my lucky day
My dad played a game live on air
And got a prize just for being there
To get something so wonderful like that for free
Had really filled my heart with glee
Full Moon Fever, I had listened to every day
Him being my first favorite artist was something I could say
The concert was the same night,
And bragging at school was a delight
Him and Joe Walsh sounded great
    On that sentimental date
We walked out on "It's Good to Be King,"
Of all that I'll never forget, that's one thing
One more thing I am thankful for,
Is that I had this opportunity, as there would be no more
With so many concerts in Tom Petty's past,
This concert would be Missouri's last.
Happy slightly late Thanksgiving everyone and God bless.

I was blessed to be born in the same town as Tom and growing up with him and seeing him putting his band together. Then to hear them play at the U of F Campus, the Mudcrutch Farm, Dub's as the house band...etc... and he and Jayne, Bruce, et. al. will always be friends and he will always be with me. His beautiful Mother, his younger brother Bruce, Mike-from Jacksonville-yet here looking for a band to join, Stan- from Daytona Beach-where The Allman Brother's were originally from, Tom Leadon and his brother- here, from England, as his parents taught at the U of F, Benmont and his beautiful Mother and his Dad was a Alachua County Judge- whose only "request" was they had to stop rehearsing when the news started from 6:00 to 7:00 pm 😄, and Ron Blair...WOW! Jayne and he together and their beautiful wedding....just so many great memories. Would not trade places with anyone. So sad he went to Heaven early, but great that he left us with so much talent and music and there's more!
There will only be one Thomas Earl Petty and the Heartbreakers! He definitely knew what he wanted as a band and got it! Never doubted he/they would not!
He had a hilarious sense of humor, a smile for all and loved playing, even for free! I remember when I got to see them off in Benmont's Mother's station wagon and another truck, which both broke down on the way to California. 😉 But they made it and look what happened! I'll see you in Heaven my friend with Roy, George, Johnny, Bo, Howie and all one day, yet miss you everyday and ROCK OUT to at least one or more TPATH song, Tom Petty, or the The Traveling Wilbury's songs everyday as it gets me going!
Love and miss you my friend.🎸🎤🎹🎶💘🎩🐊🐊🐊🐊😥😘

Tom Petty is a rare talent. There are a lot of great songwriters, singers and musicians out there. I have SiriusXM for only one reason. The Tom Petty Channel. If they ever drop it, I'm dropping them. I was a fan from 1978, the first time I heard Refugee play on the radio. I didn't get to see him in concert when he came to town because there was always a family function or work or whatever to attend, until he came to Pittsburgh in 2017. My girlfriend knew how much I liked and admired him and got Tickets as an early birthday gift to me. Joe Walsh was the opening band! I'm a big fan of his too. Needless to say it was the best concert I have ever seen. Every song from the beginning of Joe's set to the last encore from TP and HB was out of a pleasant memory of growing into adulthood. It really broke my heart when he passed 3 months later. RIP Tom, we still love your music and always will.

I received "Wildflowers" for my 14th birthday (a month after it's release) and every couple of years I'll go back to listening to it for months at a time. I don't know why but I always felt like this album was just my quiet little secret, that I loved it alone and that it wasn't that well known. Maybe it was just the feeling that that 14 year old kid knew this album was incredible but my peers at the time didn't know (or that I simply never asked anyone else about it).
I'm just glad to read everyone's words about what this album meant to them (as well as what Tom meant to them), and knowing that we're all together even if we're not together.

OUR STORIES by Lee Roy Riter II
Our Stories are written with each passing day.
They are shaped and gave meaning by what we do and we say.
Each day we are given a page fresh and new.
At days end that emptiness was only something you knew.
Each night our page is full, and it waits there to turn.
To again a blank slate awaiting actions and words.
We live and we learn as those pages fly by.
Full from memories of good things, but also reasons to cry.
What's written some days we should forget then we should shred.
There will always be bad things we should regret that we said.
Then there is what was wonderful, those good times all of us knew.
A call to give thanks my dear Lord for the blessings we knew.
One day without notice, our pages, they're none.
You'll find He gave choice and it's His will that shall be done.
We must hold onto our stories, and proudly soar through the sky.
Then hand them to God honoring the lives that went by.
You can believe the story is special, it's all about you.
In fact it was written by all we say and we do.
      LRRII

Tom Petty had my heart at 17 when... He sang "Hear Comes My Girl" for the first time. It will always be my number one TP Song... Why life is so hard and "making" a song that reflects it even harder..but, Wildflowers seems one of those challenging experiences.. WE all deserve to be among the wildflowers, some place where we feel free.. and wow.... Henry Green? Harry Green? I just fell in love with another song.

I have loved Tom Petty since I saw Damn the Torpedoes album cover when I was 16. A very long time ago! Most of my life ago. I was lucky enough to see him in concert 24 times!

Exactly me, also except for the 24 shows part, that’s amazing. I saw him 8 times. First time was really early on the DTT tour, before the album exploded. The ended up selling just over 300 tickets to it. They put up a bunch of barriers and curtains to make a more smaller, more intimate venue. I felt so bad for them, but crazy good for me. I stood directly in front of him the entire show. I was already pretty big fan, but seeing them live, and only about 6feet away, just completely blew me away. No matter what decade or tour, they would consistently put on a great show.

I thought I was past it all…turns out, I’d just pushed it down. Fact is, I may never get through it. Tom was so interwoven in our lives that we really didn’t know what we had until we didn’t. I still break down…sure do miss him. He was a rare talent and artist in every since of the word.

Tom's music will never leave me. I discovered his songs at the age of 13 or 14 in the early eighties, and ever since came back to listen to certain songs and albums. Wildflowers is one of those and this is a great movie about a great musician and masterpiece.

I remarried in my 50s to a lady that had never been to a real concert. Think it was around 2015, can't remember the year for sure but Tom Petty was coming to town so I splurged and managed to get us seats real close to the front. Man she had the time of her life as did I, so glad she got to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers live. Tom Petty really valued his fans and it was always a great heartfelt show. Hard to believe he is gone, all artists are unique in some way but Top Petty was truely someone with a special gift.

I’ve loved him since I was 16… still do more than ever now thru the yrs. at 61. I’ve made women smitten by quoting & singing his lyrics to them to make them realize how special he is. I converted a headbanger into Tom Petty… she stole my Wildflowers album when we departed after 13 yrs. together. I take that as a compliment & a tribute to me and that wonderful man. ❤ WAG 💙

The oldest memory in my life, I was about 3 or 4 years old and my mom was in the garage exercising. And I remember standing there in front of the garage door staring at the ground and Free Fallin' was playing, it's the first time I ever listened to music!. Then when I was a teenager he played the Super Bowl halftime show and that's when I first started listening to him on my own. I stole my parents greatest hits CD (still have it to this this day) and became a real fan. Then I was 28 and he went on Jimmy Fallon to promote his tour and I wanted to go but I just forgot about it. Missing out on the Hollywood Bowl show really pissed me off and it motivated me to get out and go to see my favorite bands live because you never know how much time they have left. Since then I have seen Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Metallica, Santana and the Rolling Stones. I got to experience these shows because of Tom Petty, thanks dude!
