Petty was honest and he didn't mince words. What I like best about him was he realized the importance of his fans. He wanted his concerts to be affordable and that is a far cry from the current musical landscape. Now you have artists charging 300 or more for the cheap seats and I think that is criminal.

Still not understanding why he wasn't taken straight to the hospital right after his last show. I saw him in May at Hunter Mountain NY and I gasped when he came out. He looked plastered. If his hip was so bad he had to be that plastered to work that tells me he needed medical attention for that hip now. Great show but I could've waited till he got better. Now we don't have him at all.

Born Floridian, moved all over, started earnestly loving rock &roll in 3rd grade. We would hear about Tom or the Allman’s and more before the curve. They were just on their way and it was like magic. Tom was down to earth and true to him self until the end. That’s what made him special. I had my ticket for that last show but had a shoulder scheduled for replacement. It was a significant drive and I was solo. On the day of the show I opted not to go for the safety of other drivers. I’ll catch the next one I reasoned. And he was gone. I felt loss like he was a family member. He had been a part of my musical world since I was 10 or 11. There will never be another quite like Tom. 🙏🏻❤️

I'm with ya Joy. I lived in Gainesville for 10 years, 83-93. I saw him once at a sonny's bbq out by the airport, saw him several times in concert both there and in Atlanta later before his passing. The last shows I saw were the best, he just seemed to get better and better and I gotta say it really moved me because the music was just better than anything, and a lot of concerts are just not like that. Everyone was in peace and smiling the whole time, pure magic. I've read books about his life and it was just insane with his old man. I'm sorry you missed that last show, breaks my heart. When he passed I wrote the only song I've ever written and it just came to me out of nowhere, a tribute to him and my time in Gainesville as a young clueless man-child trying to find my way on my own and learning everything the hard way. It's probably up still at my place here but not many folks saw it and I've not put up any content in a long time now. Check it out if ya get time, ya might enjoy it. Take good care out there friend and I gotta say too that I am needing an ocean fix badly! I was always surfing down there so yea, waves crashing, 441, Dubs (the bar he played his 1st real gig at I believe), oh boy the memories!

I have been gone from Florida a long time, yet I swear I feel the pull of the Gulf ,Spanish moss , cattails, probably monthly. If you follow any You Tube channels related to Florida it’s a whole ‘nother place, certainly for me ( I’m a bit older). But what I would give to sit and watch those glistening, waves once more. I wouldn’t turn down a good fishing spot either., lol. This was nice in this crazy world - like when people used to have pen pals. Take care of yourself. Peace

In fact, I was working in the Middle East and I introduced his music to a lot of foreigners from different countries. They loved his music!!! Great Video about Mr. Petty. Having had a total hip replacement with a top hip replacement surgery and knowing exactly what it entails, I feel rather sad and upset that T.P. did NOT have the surgery. Within 10 days of my surgery I was released to drive short distances. However, I suffered pain on and off for approx 4 years as I was afraid of having the surgery. I think perhaps, he was afraid as well Such a great musician and human. His music gave joy and smiles to millions of us. He is missed.

You are correct though the record companies pulled the same thing with cds. Even though it reduced the manufacturing cost to near zero they jacked up the price to @ 20$. This time Pearl Jam went to war with their record company over it. Funny that MCA pulled this with Petty. Every time I hear Working For MCA by Leonard Skinnard I think of the bs they put all their bands through.

these were nicely done, known to us hardcore fans! but fun to see again. But again, the issue of smoking keeps getting ignored. He had two major heart diseases from it, and such a large and long habit desiccates bones, his fall in his house that hurt his hip became a significant fracture. His longtime manager said don't tour, others too, but as his wife Dana said later, "he was a stubborn man." What a talent, what a good guy, wish he was still putting out LPs and doing tours.

Tom was a few years older than me, but we had a lot of the same rock influences growing up. Through his Buried Treasure Show years later on SiriusXM I realized that his interests were far more diverse than my own. I began to appreciate many of the songs that I also listened to on the radio as a kid, but wrote off as just radio filler. I still listen to the replays of that show today and it makes me happy, and sad that he's not still here to do it. The Tom Petty channel on SXM is still my go to whenever I'm driving. Along with the Beatles, I can't think of any music I go to EVERY time to feel something, even though I've heard it hundreds (thousands?) of times already. It's not surprising that he had such a connection with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynn and Roy Orbison...innovators all. He's one of the very very few artists that kept putting out brilliant music throughout a very long career, never settling for the same old thing and always trying new things. RIP Tom🙏 and thanks for leaving us with so much magic.
BTW whenever I hear 80,000 people spontaneously singing I Won't Back Down in his home town (which started right after he passed), at every Florida Gator football game, it makes me think he's humbly smiling.

Oh darling, Tom's Hard Promises hard stand on pricing had absolutely nothing to do with "CDs". There was no such thing at the time. Vinyl baby. Albums. LPs. No compact discs in 1981.
(Plus, if memory serves, Petty balked at MCA's $8.99 price point. Tom put his foot down and insisted on keeping the ALBUM price at the standard $7.99 max.)
Fugger was the absolute epitomy of a real rock star. Petty was an original in every way. He always felt more "one of us" than any other rock legend. He is so sorely missed. 🤘💔❤️‍🔥🖤

You cannot make assumptions like that it's not cool and he can't speak for himself. According to his wife Dana he was scheduled for surgery when he died, 2 days after playing the Hollywood Bowl as end of the tour and when he quit his year long bout of heroin he deliberately booked himself into a private clinic to be put into a coma and given opiate antagonists (don't remember name) to speed up the recovery process so he could regain his life. This latter piece of information is in the Zane bio which is nothing if not authorized. It sounds like you're in recovery, that is fantastic, and best best wishes.

The whole Opiate Medicine bit, is greatly hyped up, factual well proven to be negative lies they tell the masses/public all to do the evils they do to we citizens who they of the System view us as expendable to use, abuse, torture, and slaughter either quick or real slow for decades, also using exaggerations & twisting information, never telling the actual for real Truth about Opiate Medicine/Morphine Medicine, and the Opioid man made derivative of Opiate Plant Medicine- the closest working to Opiate Medicine I believe is Opioid OxyContin Medicine, as they do NOT want the masses to know the actual Truth about the Opiate/Morphine plant Medicine from the Papaver Somniferum Plant. As it would put a big stumbling block into the evils they already have done for decades- a whole Century known about they have done- unto we Severe Chronic Pain Illness people to make us just suffer daily, constant, Life ruining Pain for decades until death- for no Life to be for us. As the System which Rules us makes mega bucks with their ILLEGAL STREET DRUG BUSINESS, while they torture-torment us people with Severe Chronic Pain Illnesses that nothing else works for, nothing further can be Medically done (yes I do know what strapped to a table real torture Pain feels like- so I rightfully use the words as I know there are a number of ways this System can torture-torment we people/peasants of this lower Ruled North America Sect of land & people by the System) (Severe Chronic Pain illnesses caused by diseases, illnesses, also from severe injuries- for some of us severe injuries all due to the illegal wrongs, proven by STATE POLICE with sound facts & tests, of strangers/company- that cause deaths, and severe injuries that ruin our Lives- having never ending Life destroying Pain, but such illegal companies & their workers are protected, NOT we the people/peasants of North America.
I know for a first hand well proven fact- beyond words- this Ruling System negatively lies about Opiate Medicine, so they can do their inhumane demonic evils unto we people/peasants they target- as it has already been well proven, and I know they do such to keep their System making the big money they make- and do NOT care about sacrificing thousands of us Severe Chronic Pain Illness people/peasants- to keep their evil on good roll as it knowingly has been for a Century, possibly far longer. But when their System makes billions, if not trillions of dollars from their illegal street drugs, business clear across most lands & people worth making money, they don't care one measly bit about having to make us people with Severe Chronic Pain Illnesses suffer daily, constant, Life ruining Pain for decades until death- for no Life to be until death, because they who Rule us are also Luciferians, they have to be- to do what inhumane evil they do, and the proven negative lies they also use to do the evil unto we citizens/peasants of this North America Ruled Land by their System (of course it would be lies, just like their boss/king/god Lucifer does, and first did long before the great flood). What I could tell you, oh there is much more- some people know way beyond what I know about this evil System. But they most likely won't even allow this, as there is no real CONSTITUTION, just as there is no real 1ST AMENDMENT, and the System is striving to infringe destroy what's left of our once complete, great, "shall NOT be infringed" 2ND AMENDMENT CONSTITUTIONAL Right to Arms- being of course so the Members of the System can then very easily make all of we people/peasants of this North America Sect of land & people- to be a gun-less, powerless, defenseless, helpless, hopeless, completely doomed- then ever easy to subjugate people- they can then very easily repress, control, threaten, maim, pillage, rake, torture, slave, slaughter, or do any other evil they so care to use, unto whoever of us peasants of North America they want to target, and do whatever evil they want unto us, needing absolutely no reason to do such evil unto us- as we will then be a completely powerless people with NO internal defense or protection, as their is NO Military of any land or people, even North America's GREAT MILITARY SERVICES do NOT internally defend or protect we the people/peasants of this North America Ruled Sect of land & people- i.e. being the System's lower Sect of Ruled land & people of North America (where MEXICO & UNITED STATES Countries once Truly existed- also why they disregard any MEXICO & UNITED STATES border [ land where MEXICO use to be- the System has their Drug Cartels Ruling in that area of their lower Sect of Rule here on North America Land ]- as to the System it is all their lower Ruled Sect of land & people where MEXICO & UNITED STATES are said to have once Truly existed until abducted by the System (actually the biggest con & lie committed since long before the great flood), just like their upper Ruled North America Sect of land & people is where the Country CANADA use to be.

This all started for me when 18 years old, 44+ years ago, and they have wanted me to commit suicide since long ago, or to purchase their deadly street drugs- they make money, and know there will always be new drug addicts to take the place of those who die from such deadly street drugs (PHARMACEUTICAL OPIATE MEDICINE, or OPIOID OXYCONTIN MEDICINE, used correctly, responsibly we Severe Chronic Pain Illness people/peasants do NOT have one measly problem, but the System knows this, and keeps it from us- so we will suffer daily, constant as I type Life ruining Pain for decades until death for no Life- as we are Ruled by Luciferian evil doing Members of the System: Communist-Nazi-Fascist Luciferian League/Club/System of Evil Sect Rule. Just like their other fellow Club Members for the System, who also Rule other Sects of land & people for the System- i.e. Lucifer/Beelzebub/Satan- their boss/king/god. *BEWARE-* this System may target you next also- this very day, hopefully yourself NOT already targeted, as they target a percentage of us people they can get away with for now, with plans for their One World Rule, One World Order- all for the System, where they then can target multitudes, with far more evils- I am sure they have some doozies of evil all ready, and set to go! Once their System is Ruling all out in the open, as they already Rule behind the lines- this hell they Rule- being all here of their System's earth/upper-made-level-of-hell-by-the-System. Evil.

They do NOT want the masses to know that Opiate Medicine, and Opioid OxyContin Medicine is an actual G-D Send, Miracle Working, Life Saving, Life Giving, Medicine for a lot of types of Severe Chronic Pain illnesses, yes Opiate Medicine, and Opioid OxyContin Medicine does not work for every type of Severe Chronic Pain illness, but is absolutely NO reason to keep from us Severe Chronic Pain illness people for whom Opiate Medicine, and Opioid OxyContin Medicine does work to ease our Pain at a working level dosage it keeps on working, IT DOES NOT CHANGE- but they do NOT want the masses everywhere to know about this TRUTH! So they can keep doing their inhumane evil. A working level dosage for a person this Opiate Medicine, and Opioid OxyContin Medicine works for their type of Severe Chronic Pain Illness- yes the working dosage keeps on working even though the high/buzz feeling went away years ago. But AGAIN THEY DO NOT WANT PEOPLE/THE-PUBLIC- TO KNOW THIS TRUTH, as we are Ruled by True evil, who do evil unto we people they view us as expendable peasants- to use, abuse, torture-torment, even eliminate if they feel like doing such for even no reason needed whatsoever.
