    I bought one a year ago, when it was newly released and before there were any reliable reviews of the instrument. All last summer I kept it in the car in So CA heat to see how well it would hold up, and it's done really quite well. Tuning stability has been remarkable. Aesthetically, it's very pleasing all around, including the packaging.
    I've seen some complaints that it isn't really carbon fiber, but this is not true. The big difference with other CF guitars is that it's injection molded CF-filled plastic, rather than fabricated via layup methods usually used. After a year, I think the difference is becoming irrelevant. Cost-wise, injection molding allows a product to be mass produced much less expensively, at least after the tooling costs (which can be quite high) are recouped.
    My biggest criticism is that it's somewhat neck heavy. I don't find it comfortable to hold without a strap. But other than that, It's sound compares well to my Baby Taylor, another travel guitar. They've since released the version with electronics installed, which didn't interest me much, as nifty as it may be. And yes, prices are all over the map on Amazon alone. I don't know what that's all about.

    Got one after watching your videos. The only complaints I've heard was with the sound itself, which I find to be no worse than any low-mid range acoustic and for all of the other pluses and the price, it's not an issue.
    Also, I got lucky and grabbed one in sale from Amazon for 159.00.
    Thanks for the detailed reviews

    How does it sound when playing compared to how it sounds in the video? I am curious how different it sounds with the top cut out being a bigger opening than the front slots. I love that headstock shape. Looks like a great guitar for sure.

    • @jsenear
      @jsenear 2 года назад

      It even sounds better from a player standpoint with the sound hole directing sound towards you. I have had mine for two weeks and love it. That said no more worries about 10% humidity in Minnesota during the winter months. My other guitars will stay in humidified cases until next spring when the humidity becomes decent again.

    Something about that case is really appealing. I've heard more people talking about carbon guitars lately, and I'm not sure I understand the perks of one. Is it the weight, durability, and low action, or are there other attributes of carbon guitars? It seemed to play like a pretty normal guitar for you.

    • @tonyleeglenn
      @tonyleeglenn  2 года назад +3

      For me what's nice is that I don't have to worry about the way temperature or humidity affect the guitar. That and the weight I guess. There's really nothing on the instrument that you can mess up. It's just crazy simple, and sounds really nice. Thanks so much as always for watching and commenting.

    • @jsenear
      @jsenear 2 года назад +2

      They are impervious to the weather. You can stick them in a snowdrift overnight and pick them up and play them. Most importantly you never have to worry about fretboard sharp edges or guitars cracking with them. I live in Minnesota where the humidity in my apartment in the winter hovers around 10%. Now I have a guitar I can hang on the wall (which mine is doing) and leave out all winter. Play it whenever I want to without worrying about low humidity damage.

    You maybe right about the sales strategy. I don't mind the idea of a couple of hundred for any guitar, but 8 to 9 hundred for a piece of plastic with strings is a bit ridiculous. There is nothing like the beauty of a living thing such as wood and the unique and different tones that wood produces. Plastic has the same tones and to me it sounds like playing guitar in the bathroom. The tones just never seem full or robust without some type of help from a pedal.

    Thanks for the review. It seems with Enya the price point jumps from this to over 700. Wish there was a fuller size carbon guitar somewhere in the middle range, perhaps without all the electronic gimmicks (imo)--there is Ovation, but I don't think they are as good as this Enya seems.

    Please forward this message to Enya!
    As a luthier and instrument tech I was very impressed by the basic geometry and quality of this little guitar....BUT... Two issues needed to be addressed before it could be considered "playable":
    (1) The Zero Fret (nut) height! Why can't manufacturers understand that the "zero fret" (or nut slots) need not be taller than any of the other frets!?! Think about it guys! It's only common sense! In my case the frets measure 0.039" tall off the fretboard but the zero fret is more than 0.063" tall. How stupid is that!?! This makes the action unduly high with special difficulty at the first few frets. The feel of the strings should be inviting...not a struggle!
    The solution in my case was to simply use my gauged nut files (Stewmac) with a 0.043" (0.004" added for safety margin because going too deep would be tragic!) feeler gauge safety stop pressed flat on the fretboard to very delicately notch the zero fret at each string. Be sure to tape off your other frets so you don't nick them in the process!
    (2) The saddle (2.78mm thick)was too thin for the bridge slot (3.0mm wide). This in combination with the cheap plastic saddle being much too tall cocked it in the bridge slot at a crazy angle. Between the work needed on the zero fret and this useless saddle, the string factory height made the guitar, straight out of the box, almost totally unplayable.... not really unusual for any new factory built guitar.
    This is not to disrespect the entire instrument! The basic elements are amazing! The neck/body/ bridge angle, so important for proper setup, is perfect and solid! The saddle slot is absolutely perfectly placed.. now with the simple addition a properly fitted, compensated saddle the intonation is absolutely bang on!
    After adjusting the effective zero fret height and fitting a proper compensated saddle this little beauty has just stolen my heart! With the truss rod ever so slightly loosened to give the fretboard a touch more relief, she's got a lovely, inviting, light touch action. I'm looking at more than 20 jealous guitars hanging on the walls!
    I can't put the dang thing down!

    • @brucefrye2292
      @brucefrye2292 Год назад

      I had to work on mine too ! And I thought I was the only one worried about whether my other guitars were jealous or not!

    what do you think about putting medium gauge, say 12 gauge acoustic flatwounds to get more warmth and body to counteract the smaller size? what gauge does it come with?

    • @tonyleeglenn
      @tonyleeglenn  2 года назад +2

      Great question. It comes with D'Addario® EXP16, which are .012 to .053. It would be cool to try flats on it. Might demo that in a future video.

    • @bigmuddy1
      @bigmuddy1 Год назад

      I have one of these and love it as well, I contacted Enya and they told me using .013s was ok. Haven't tried that yet but I like the sound with .012's just fine. I play in a bluegrass band and really love 20s-30s jazz, it sounds great on jazz chords. I mostly use it for practice because it's small enough to sit in my chair at the computer and learn and practice with RUclips vids. The sound does degrade if you play real hard but I have louder guitars if I need that.
