Thank you for this, just the video I was looking for. I'm about to start stratification for some seeds, and I had no idea how to do it with ginkgo. Thank you!!
I found one female tree nearby. I collected as many seeds as possible. Hoho. I love to toast the nuts. It’s not that bad. I don’t find it smell horrible
One comment about the video: Ginkgo seeds do not need to be cold stratified. There are some academic articles about it, but I can also guarantee it by experience. Put the seeds in a warm place (around 30ºC) inside a wet paper towel, and they should germinate in 1 or 2 weeks
I actually think the reason they are short is because they are over potted. Trees that have lots of room to root out tend to send all their resources there. They could have stayed in those pots for 2 years at least and they’d have then grown much taller top side
The bigger the pot the better. Look at nature. Trees do not germinate in tiny pots in the forest and all are growing faster and bigger than any tree in a pot. When a seed germinate first the young plant develops small overground stalk and some leaves, just enough to produce enough sugars through photosynthesis and as big root system as possible. The roots are the foundation which will help the plant immensely over next months or years. Having big root system means access to more nutrients and water when its needed. Small root system and large overground part means the plant might not get enough nutrients to quickly develop in the future. Also, higher evaporation vie large overground section and lower water gathering via small root system endangers plants life during drier parts of the year. The above applies to all plants and not just trees, however for trees developing big root system in early stage is particularity important as they need quick need quick start and will benefit from it for years to come. In tiny pots, the tree wont have enough space for good root system and will rather grow up, but that will hinder its growth in next few years. Such plant will never grow LARGE.
Do the seeds have to be germinated in the bag partially sprouted before you plant them? I have about 30 seeds and only five of them are partially seeded.
I was just curious whether this tree can grow in my place which has a tropical climate, and it has been proven that by sowing ginkgo seeds it can grow well, although slowly. Now in care of its growth.
Rule number 1 do not touch them with your hands they can give you a rash... anyways I grow these every year... probably one of the best to grow to fight climate change... the hard part is finding a female next to male
Would you share your growing tips with us here please. The ginkgo my mother and I planted for my grandfather is beautiful now and is female. This year I have collected the “plum like fruit seeds” and given a bunch to my Japanese friend who not only has a tradition of eating them very briefly toasted them but is also going to see about growing some. I am giving some seeds to my children to grow them since I will be moving overseas at some point and obviously can’t take the tree with me. There are some confusing bits of advise out there and some details missing that it would be wonderful to hear from you who grows them every year.
This is a random Question, but could I pay you for a bag of seeds and have them shipped to me this fall? I've been wanting to do this, but there is NO ginko trees around me that are mature.
Even though your ginkgo are stunted, they will grow rapidly in the incoming years so I personally would not worry about that too much, my ginkgo was only 6cm last year and now its 40cm tall
Also!!!!!! Dude!!! I grow trees too! I plan on growing millions! I definitely need more humans involved!!!! Though I have zero clue how to contact you ...
they don’t show sexual characteristics for like a decade they can be dna tested in a lab ahead of time but it’s expensive. i’m not sure if you can buy presexed seeds like you can with cannabis
Thank you for sharing your results- it was a year in the making!
Glad that you're back!

Thank you!!
My ginkgo tree produced fruit for the first time this year. They do stink. I’m going to give this a try! I’ll definitely use gloves!
Thx 4 sharing this video! I’m collecting my seeds now!🎉🎉🎉
YAYYYYYYYY UR BACK
it was a good informative video. Thank you

When will you plant them out into the ground ? How long will you keep them in their pots ? 🌳🌳🌳🌳

@@JohnWest-zy6gs yes you are correct, I have since learnt this, but thank you for posting for others to see
@Fabulous man you're so class. 😂👍
thank you, Indonesian bonsai greetings
Great video!

no
Also they have a really pretty yellow in the fall

Hi infact it was a nice vedios...
I was wondering whether you have some seeds of ginkgo to share...
It's not available in our area...
We've got a male and female (I think) and I've never seen another one in my life besides the two at my home. I want to try and replant more!!
Rule number 1 do not touch them with your hands they can give you a rash... anyways I grow these every year... probably one of the best to grow to fight climate change... the hard part is finding a female next to male
Jokes on you I touch them with my bare hands and I never had a reaction
@@lazzorfrogz2973 I too can touch them without a problem, but some people apparently do get a rash upon contact.

I love to gingko boils with brown sugar , no rashes if you touch the seeds or the peel , I even eat raw , yummy yummy
incredibly helpful, thank you!
Your back
are metal containers such as tin cans good for cold stratification since they get cold much faster than plastic?
Great video - thank you!
can sand be used for the bag?
What is the minimum time to keep Ginkgo seeds in the cold?
Been a while! 😁
What to use if I don't have peat.moss? Will.common barrow Soil do?
When are the large enough to be planted in the ground?
did you punch hole on the seal tight bag for the stratification?
I was wondering the same thing!
This tree can durvive for many years to come
This is a random Question, but could I pay you for a bag of seeds and have them shipped to me this fall? I've been wanting to do this, but there is NO ginko trees around me that are mature.
Great video. Thanks.
Are these golden ginkgo trees? Are there different varieties of gingko?
Even though your ginkgo are stunted, they will grow rapidly in the incoming years so I personally would not worry about that too much, my ginkgo was only 6cm last year and now its 40cm tall
Thanks for posting this! Have you ever had your soil tested at your agricultural extension agency?
This man knows his stuff
how old is this ginkgo tree the time you record this?
Nice trees. I have 2 but I guess they are male, I haven't seen any fruit from them.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Had to re upload for a small tweek but we are back!
Is the soil supposed to be wet or moist while in the bag
Wondering the same
@@bigbuxxx00 i think it’s better have the soil be moist and not soaking wet
Would love to get some of those seeds. I can pay you for them! Let me know. ~John
These do not need to be cold stratification
Sir
What kind of dirt can I use?
Also!!!!!! Dude!!! I grow trees too! I plan on growing millions! I definitely need more humans involved!!!! Though I have zero clue how to contact you ...
Do you sell seeds?-John
How would you know if the seedling gingko will be a male or female?
they don’t show sexual characteristics for like a decade
they can be dna tested in a lab ahead of time but it’s expensive. i’m not sure if you can buy presexed seeds like you can with cannabis
Adding garden lime to the soil will make ginkgos grow faster
Do anyone have any idea if anyone has ever tried to grow this as a bonsai?
Yes they are commonly grown as bonsai. Do a quick web search for some images you will love what you see.
Iwant seeds
can i get seeds ? ship to Pakistan
Maidenhair tree. Angel hair is pasta! Lol
I am from India, want to buy a gingo biloba plant from you. Is it possible?
