Well, there's a difference between Winter Seeds and Mixed Seeds. The WS will always produce winter forage-ables. MS will produce either whatever's viable during the season if you plant them outside or any spring/summer/fall crop if you plant them in the greenhouse.

Winter is my favorite season in Stardew Valley, because I can finaly relax and spend more time outside of the farm. During other seasons all crops need attention and processing + caring for animals. I often find out, that when I get up at 6:00 am, many times by the time I am finished with everything, it is 17:20, shops closed, Pam just left the bus station, Robin also closed her shop. In winter, animals are inside, no outside crops grow, so the whole day tends to be less hectic and less stereotype and gives a more freedom to plan a day, chill out, do some fishing, walk in nature, pick berries, cut wood....and it actually relaxing to just wonder around. Or you can finally mine enough ore and coal to build that casks and jars for next season, because now that are no crops to care for, you can spend all day in mines. Or you can catch up with those NPCs and build or break relationships. And if you really miss growing plants you can always grow a bunch of winter seeds and make that crystal fruit wine for some extra profit.
My jaw hit the floor when you destroyed all of those pumpkins in one fell swoop!! The music stopping, the awkward pause, I swear the humor was so on point!
Winter. Grow mixed winter seeds outside, like yam and plums and stuff. Then harvest, make more seeds, etc until you have enough to fill entire field. Make enough seeds for next winter entire field, and you'll be filthy rich

Fun fact: the lowest selling crop you get from mixed seeds are parsnips wich sell for 35 g so buying seeds from krobus for 30g a piece will always result in profit

Winter makes me bank. I use it to grow winter foragables, turn those into more winter seed packets, and by the winter's end, I've made a few hundred thousand dollars. It goes like clockwork and you can do this as early as year one, for that year one income boost for year two.
or if you know what seeds look like and dont mind attrition can make 3x3s a lot faster.... mixed seeds can get you an early leg up on the year 2 crops or oasis crops and free mostly
I have a feeling the pumpkins "liked" the right side more due to how SDV randomizes the seeds once placed. One of the most common ways to randomize things in a tile-based game is to base it off the location and some other timer or other way to make it different every time (eg. multiplying/adding the system time) So, SDV's randomizer might be a bit biased.
I'm pretty sure that when planted in the greenhouse, mixed seeds can produce any of the crops from any season in any season. I've never tested it myself, but I remember having read that in the wiki. So, for example, if you planted 9 mix seeds in summer they could be a mix of like a pumpkin, parsnip, corn, wheat, a radish, a potato, or you know, whatever.

The set of three light coloured seeds are pumpkins. Should've planted and destroyed seeds with the pick until you get a 3x3 properly from the get go to save some time aha.
I know this is an old video but artichokes are only available to buy in second summer but they do actually spawn in year 1 fall from mixed seeds and they also don’t regrow it was the eggplant that regrows
The big brain idea would have been to figure out what the pumpkin seeds look like and then break all the seeds that arent and replace them until they are all pumpkins.
Well if they grow a random crop from the season they are planted, one could assume in the greenhouse it would grow a random crop from a random season. This or it is based on game time (like how fish are based on time) and will still grow according to the season its planted
so about the mixed seeds, krobus sells them on thursday for 10 at a time but if you exit his shop and go back in he sells you 10 more and you can get infinite mixed seeds if you have enough money
I imagine this will make a significant amount of money. IDK if you can buy mixed seeds, and this would be before you fill the greenhouse with ancient fruit. plant as much as possible and leave the crops that continue to produce. Running the greenhouse for a year while running continuous seeds through seed makers along with valuable / Giant plants through seed maker. And when their season comes plant everything. Tally it up over the course of a year your profits will be astronomical. Also it isn't valuable or you can't make it into a giant crop, just sell it for more mixed seeds.
you just get a random crop from any season... the last one I remember gave me an eggplant. I like to grow random stuff in part of the greenhouse over the winter and make seeds for the next year... along with some ancient fruit ofc. it'd probably be more cost effective to just grow ancient fruit and buy seeds, but that's no fun. :P
