Oh how I cried the day this beautiful lady left us. April 25th is a very rough day for me. Not only did we lose Bea on April 25, 2009, but I lost my beloved grandfather on April 25, 2019 10 years after Bea.
She was a true talent. Her comedic timing was impeccable. Thank God Golden Girls reruns can be found every single day. The funniest, best written comedy sitcom ever.
Could not help but notice how emotional Bea got when she talked about abortion. I just love her so much look how honest and down to earth she seems. She WAS that way in real life. WARM and GENUINE for sure, soft spoken, but kinda loved a good curse word, a dirty joke ever so often, she was lovely, gracious, and got teary eyed a little bit easy. I was so blessed to meet Bea up close and personal in September 2001.
Thank you SO VERY MUCH for this interview. Bea has ALWAYS been one of my most favorite people. I was lucky to know her as a young comic when she was on the GOLDEN GIRLS run. Kind, warm, very caring and funnier than ANY person to have EVER walked this Earth. People are always surprised to know how different she was from some of the characters she has portrayed. She was such a love. I think her most favorite things in the world were her boys, her dogs and being barefoot at home. I miss her. I always will miss her.
Great advice from Bea! Did anyone else notice one of her dogs behind her at the 15:04 point in the video? I know how much she loved her dogs. Thanks for sharing this!
Hello from Japan! I am an American who teaches English here. Japanese people know absolutely nothing about Maude and The Golden Girls. I used to teach an English class to women who were 50 years and over and I showed them the episode of The Golden Girls about Blanche going through menopause. They were very surprised that there was a TV program that covered that topic even existed. Some really connected with how Dorothy embraced menopause. There was a lot of conversation about that and I was surprised by how freely they were able to discuss it in front of me. What was most fascinating is they understood that Blanche was the pretty one, but they considered Bea Arthur to be the prettiest.
Thank you for posting these clips. "I've been gainfully employed for many years" has to be one of the understatements of all time. I'm glad I got to see her one-and-a-half woman show in London the year before this interview. After delivering the best lines she'd stare into the audience and it was if she was looking at me personally. Now with The Golden Girls finally back on Network TV in the UK, we are reminded of how great this show really was.
Absolutely wonderful Interview. You did it once again David. Thank you so much! I found all the episodes of Amanda's By The Sea, here on RUclips. I'm looking forward to watching it. Bea was simply amazing and I'm so glad we have so much of her work to keep her alive forever.
You're welcome, tallulah2 . Glad you liked it. I hope you've subscribed. There's a lot more where this came from. What sorts of videos would you like to see going forward? Best, David
Thank you for posting your interview. If you chatted for an hour after the interview, did you document any of the further stories she shared? I was always sad that Bea spoke of the 'Mame' film with a sense of failure. Yet I LOVE this, and without it, would never have known of Bea's stage successes. Thank you for sharing what you did, and thank you Bea.
I feel so sad for Bea. She really wanted to move to the England, because she loved the people there, their culture, their way of life. Due to health reasons, her dream never became a reality. I love Bea, she is my favorite Golden Girl. But at the same time, never wanted to see my beloved Bea get old or have health problems. I think if she did not have health problems, I am sure she would have lived longer. Bea left us much to soon.
After Bea's death, Bette White stated that Bea didn't like her too much, I would have loved to have heard what was her relationship was like with Bette, Rue and Estelle.
I grew up with Ms Arthur on TV. Boy I wish I had the nerve to travel from the UK to the USA to see her on stage. God bless you Ms Arthur, you were (and still are) a part of my life and memories.
So was Ursula the sea witch presented to bea Arthur? Was she ever offered the role? Anyone know. Anyone know any video or footage where bea talks about the Disney movie?
Oh how I wish the interviewer would speak up. Poor Bea not being able to hear the questions just lowers the overall quality of the interview and makes it uncomfortable to watch at times. Even though the questions are good.
Abortion wasn't used as birth control when the sit com Maude first aired. People still sent hate mail. But, that's why the subject was allowed in the show. It was supposed to be a life or death situation, as intended.
Context is everything. In this interviews the original interviewer was never meant to be heard. The interview was edited and used in a different manner. This is uncut raw footage. You’re hearing a voice you were never meant to hear. How’s your sarcasm feel now?
Hi, Sweetmissy12. Just for clarification: This interview was originally for a documentary in which the interviewer was never intended to be heard by the audience. The answers were edited and only portions were ever aired. We are presenting it now completely uncut and uncensored because we felt people would be interested in the footage as a historical record of this iconic and beloved actor. The interviewers sound is what it is, unfortunately, and presented without apology. Hope you can enjoy it in that context.

I don't like to moan about stuff BUT I really dislike how these interviews are being done!? The sound of the interviewer is really BAD quality!!! Bea can't hear half of what he's saying, my sound is almost all the way up because of the mumbling, echoing and very bad sound? why not sit with the guest, rather than away from them? Very strange setup. IMO

David, by far, this is the BEST interview I’ve ever seen Bea Arthur do. Great, great work.
Thank you SO much, Christopher!

Bea Arthur is a beautiful magnetically attractive statuesque woman for her age as an talented actress. Thanks! Maude and Dorothy. RIP!
She was an extraordinary person. Still can't believe she's gone.
A true American jewel. Will always be loved. R.I.P.
This was a great interview. I enjoyed this series. She was quite the talent
Bea! She was fab! She looked like 3 members of my family! My gran, my auntie and my mom!
Love her interviews

Jason - REALITY CHECK - Bea was UP THERE in age when she passed over!!!! None of us GET OUT OF THIS LIFE ALIVE!!!!
Jason Gibson when you say health problems, do you mean lung cancer?
Buddy she was close to 90.It's not like she died at 30!
RIP gorgeous Bea. Any Bea haters here can get lost.

Literally no one is hating on her
Great interview.
I enjoyed this interview
Isn't she utterly majestic 😍
After Bea's death, Bette White stated that Bea didn't like her too much, I would have loved to have heard what was her relationship was like with Bette, Rue and Estelle.
It was a rumor that gossip-mongers eventually convinced Betty to believe. It wasn't true. Bea's son said it was absolutely not true.

I love that last sentence you said. She and all the girls hold a special place in my heart, and you worded exactly why that is.

What did she look like as a young actress? Say in ThreePenny Opera? As an 11 year old singer in Maryland?
Hey David, great job with this interview I really enjoyed it!!! I'll be watching more of your videos. Thankyou❤
Wish you, the interviewer, were closer to Bea & using a mic. Even she couldn't hear you.
Seriously! She had to say “what” 50 times!
And actually ask a straightforward question rather than a train of consciousness that makes no sense.
Can we get the footage of the extra hour after this?
She also did the Perry como show.
So was Ursula the sea witch presented to bea Arthur? Was she ever offered the role? Anyone know. Anyone know any video or footage where bea talks about the Disney movie?
David Levin, Love it. Markus
God, I envy the people you’ve met.

Wow, eight shows a week! Twenty years...sounds like my music career..and more.
It's kind of easy...Maude was the liberal version of Archie...and Bea says exactly the same thing Carrol O'Conner said...I was playing a role...
Abortion wasn't used as birth control when the sit com Maude first aired. People still sent hate mail. But, that's why the subject was allowed in the show. It was supposed to be a life or death situation, as intended.
Loved this interview, her mouth seemed very dry though, like she needed water. lol
I am not hating on her as I think she was great, but she smoked apparently. That can have this affect on you where your mouth gets dry.
Why is Bea floating in her chair at the end of the interview? LOL...
Betty white was trying to punch her off stage.
No wonder she couldn't hear; neither could we...
