Well, you do, also in a small prop, landing patterns and entry to landing patterns are designed to reduce the number of blind spots encountered. “No entry from the dead side” go and Google that.

ive flown planes, gliders, paramotors but never once ever had the cconfidence to touch a helicopter. hats off to you they are super scary flying machines that experience more crashes than planes and are flick of the wrist controlled. the physics behind helicopters terrify me.

Well done Aman. You're a brave girl to take on the challenge of flying a helicopter. I don't think I could do that as heights bother me, which might sound strange coming from a guy who spent his working life clambering over rooftops. Helicopters are really noisy too and we could have done with more subtitles. But anyway, you did a sterling job. I admire you so much and I was glad to see you back safely on the ground. x

Hey guys, idk why. But iv noticed that out of all the popular youtube driver instructor that I’v seen. Aman is like literally the only one who actually did training outside of driving a car. Like flying a helicopter or an airplane. That is hella rare. 👍

been to blackbusche a couple of times, was in walking distance of my school, so days where I had few or no lessons I would take a stroll over and watch the planes and helicopters. weird to see you firstly in a helicopter, and secondly in an area I know so well

I've flown in a helicopter, and it was fun. That said, I was in a Bell Jet ranger, a far more substantial looking model than what you were in. Had I turned up at the airport, saw your helicopter, don't think i'd have had the nerve to get in, so kudos to you 🙂

My fear of helicopters makes me Mr Negative, it's weird feeling a sense of care towards Aman, to want her not to put herself in harms way. 🙏🙏 How about heading to pmFlight in Surrey, and learning to fly an Airbus A320 via a simulator and the safety of terra firma🙏

First of all, thanks for sharing these with us, Aman! It's super-cool to be able to participate -- to some degree -- in your experience!
I think that choppers are way more difficult to learn to handle than regular planes. Especially those light, "simple" choppers. The thing is, that a chopper will naturally want to wander around, and it's only through a very fine coordination of the controls for each of the 3 axes that it's possible to hold it steady or to make it move in one specific direction at a controlled speed.
As for the controls themselves, I believe that there's an added difficulty if you try to compare the way they work in a plane to how they work in a car -- at least in driving a car the regular way. However, I would say that had you, Aman, tried some advanced driving techniques training -- like in a rally school or on a skid-pad -- then flying a plane or a helicopter might have become much easier to master. That's because in those types of driving -- i.e. when you have to learn to control the car when it's drifting/sliding -- you need to learn to start reducing the inputs at the very first sign that the input has taken effect. I believe that it's a very similar approach that needs to be taken in controlling an airplane -- you wait for the very subtle feedback from the machine and you have to adjust your input immediately.
My washing machine sounds exactly the same way when the helicopter started turning.

Hey aman 👋. Im also looking to become a helicopter pilot. I have no experience only sat in one year's ago as a passenger. Any advice you can give me. Would be very much appreciated. Im in the UK also 👍
I have never been in a helicopter and to be honest it freaks me out. A conventional fixed wing aeroplane just psychologically feels more stable and sturdy, even though in reality it probably isn't.

I want to go do flying lessons so bad? Do you need some type of provisional like driving?
No, but you'll need to pass a medical before your first solo flight (once you're ready to fly without the instructor present). There are a bunch of theory exams that need to be passed along the way as well as the practical tests, but you can just book a taster lesson and see if it's something you enjoy.
Be warned: it's an addictive and expensive hobby! Budget £30k+ to obtain your PPL(H)

Your panicking inside was justified. I pray whenever I see people in a Robinson or as I call them The Flying Coffin. I never understood how it was every approved to be flight worthy. I went to my local field and asked them which helicopter they use and they said a Robinson, never been back.
