  • Olympian Natalie Dell O'Brien won an Olympic bronze medal in rowing with her three teammates at the 2012 London Games. In this funny, powerful talk at TEDxPSU, she discusses how losing defined her athletic experience -- and how our losses can take us further in life. Her message: Find something you absolutely love to do, even during times of failure.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Natalie Dell was my inspiration to create my volunteer non-profit Veterans' Rowing & Kayaking organization about 17-months ago. I was looking for a new sport activity that all my Veterans at our VA hospital facility in West Haven, Connnecticut could enjoy as a form of therapy. Most of my Veterans suffer from things like PTSD/TBI, depression and other health related issues. Our program is a wellness & healing program that seems to be working because we have more than doubled in size since last year when we started our organization. We are also getting more sponsors/donors to help with many of the costs in our expanding programs. This year, we will be adding an expansion onto our adaptive rowing & kayaking program to help amputee Veterans.
Natalie, I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for inspiring me to create this organization which will serve many disabled Veterans for years to come!
    God bless you!
