Have literally owned this camera for over two years, and I learned more about it through this video than all of the other videos I’ve watched on youtube combined. Fantastic job!
This is great - most V-loggers spend 10 minutes talking about themselves and you simply blaze through all of the useful information, without letting ego get in the way. Everything I needed to know, for a very complicated/powerful machine, in under 9 minutes. Thanks and Bravo
The last comment "The only way you're gonna get good at something is by trying things out and failing miserably.", is actually very encouraging. Thank you.
One year ago I finally started playing with my sony A7iii in camera settings after shooting an interview in photo mode mistakenly so I didn't capture any audio. My name is Max and i'm a set lighting tech and electrican for IATSE. Through all the other videos even though I didn't understand anything about DSLR video or photography I felt like I could trust you. I used your settings and finally was on my path to learn how to use my tools (camera). I think it's awesome that you team up with other youtubers and your new content about the DJI ronin was amazing because a couple weeks earlier I heard a grip talking about the new DJI ronin cameras and how he disliked them. I had never worked them but in my opinion they seem like a great tool to have in your kit. Thank you for your hard work. It helped me get comfortable to start shooting my own content now i'm in the level of my film making journey of learning the editing process so hopefully by next year I have more to show.
I just switch myself from a Canon EOS T7 rebel DSLR camera to the Sony A7III 4k mirrorless. I just what the Sony from B&H recently and got my box last week. I shot the most recent video today on the Canon camera, and let everyone know that I'm switching soon from Canon to Sony. I'm glad I made the switch though I'm not against Canon. :)
I just purchased the A7III and this video helped me out so much. Both this and the lowlight-video. You have such a genuine approach and I have learned more from you by watching your videos than anything else. Thank you so much, I really hope you can continue doing this because you are by far one of the better youtuber I've come across. Many cheers from Sweden!
Ah yes! A video on Sony menu systems that doesn't make you feel like you are study for a organic chemistry final. Thanks for making it fun but informative. Great job again buddy!
Super helpful and concise. Thank you! ...only trouble I had is that for some reason it says the function for "power save start time" is unavailanle for me to change. It's locked at 1min and greyed out. Do you know why that might be? Thanks for the killer tutorial!
Just got my A7III and this was super helpful. I had a couple of custom buttons on my A7SII, but mostly for exposure and quick zebras and peaking. Thanks for showing just how customizable this really is!
One thing I need to add, for the slow motion you need to set the file format to XAVC S HD as the camera doesn’t support 4k slow motion and to get the best quality, under Record Setting you set the 120p 100M. Than the S&Q settings will make sense. The way you said it it’s a bit tricky for a person who probably doesn’t know the camera that well. But overall, really nice video. I like the fact that you kept everything under 10 minutes and compressed a lot of info. Most of them dudes be doing a 15 minute video explaining one or two things. I like people who optimize their time.
But thats the thing. How do we know it's going to be slow motion? Or does the entire video become slow motion (if that makes sense)? Also, if it's not 4k, does it need to be 1080p60FPS? Ive been struggling with this for a while because I want to create high quality cinamatics but when I use 4k60fps it just looks choppy.
Bro thanks for making me waste the first 2 hours of my Sunday watching videos on your channel 😭 Haha great content man. Professional quality. Can't wait to see more!
DUDE, you are officially the first person who has said that to me. WOW........Okay so the Honor is mine, this is such a new channel and a new thing for me. Comments like that remind me to keep going even when it feels like a ton of work. Thanks for watching and I hope to hear more from you. J

Just bought the a7iii as my first Sony camera and even thought this video is 5years old, this is still the best video I’ve seen when it comes to setting aswell as describing what each setting does
Quick question brother. I just bought an a7iii and a Rode Pro +. But I don’t see a change in the audio quality. I am assuming that i need to ser the mic to the external mic, but don’t seem to find it in the menus. I thought it was plug and play. Please shoot me a tip or what menu to go to. Thanks in advance.
No it should be automatic. As long as there's a fresh battery in that mic. And it's turned on it should work. There are better mics than that one out now. Try the Rode Go or the Video mic NTG. More expensive but amazing and worth it. That one you have the battery is a pain in the ass to swap. I'm never using that mic again.
I've been watching a bunch of your videos and have subscribed! You are incredibly talented and well informed & the way you've made this channel is a breath of fresh air honestly!
this video completely saved my life, just got this exact camera and the little book it came with was almost zero help and no one else is going through this thing like you do. Thanks!
It was so helpful when you gave examples on why you changed the settings. It would be fascinating if you shared the type of projects you get hired for. Always amazing content!!
This was crazy helpful. Exactly what I was looking for. I'd like to give you a hug. Thank you for making this. I learned a lot!! Also that was the sickest title sequence I've ever seen.
Hey man, thanks for the tips, love your tutorials. A heads up, and please forgive if I am mistaken, but it seems that you cannot use CENTER LOCK ON AUTOFOCUS while recording in 4K with PROXIES ENABLED. I was getting an error message when I tried to engage CENTER LOCK ON AUTOFOCUS and found that my disabling PROXIES the problem was resolved.
I've had this camera for two years now and have had no idea that it had a tracking function. I thought it was only on the a7siii. You sir have blown my mind
Same. It instantly became so much more useful and worth the $ after I programmed these settings and re-worked some of them to fit my preference. Like, I was starting to think it was so inferior to a camera like the GH5, which has cinematic aspect ratio guides and LUT simulation, things made for filmmakers that I couldn't find in the a7III... well, it's in there. So exciting!
Loved the tips, really good. For subjects at a fixed focal distance from the lens that you want to keep in focus, instead of setting focus hold which is really annoying as it only works while holding down the button I prefer to set the camera to manual focus and then the focus hold button to AF/MF toggle. That way use autofocus to focus instantly then let go and focus doesn't drift. I love continuous autofocus for tracking shots, especially with centre lock on AF and the touch screen. I guess the only things I would do differently are - keep the focus magnifier on the AF on button where you already have the symbol of the magnifying glass. I wouldn't bother with monitor gamma assist as I think I'll just leave it in auto unless you have a good reason for not doing so? that saves a button for zebras.
I am used to DSLR, been shooting stills for a while, upgraded to a Sony a7iii, completely new to video, wanted to have a nice video for a setting tutorial, I just found it. So useful!!! Thanks !!!!
Thanks for a very quick and informative video. If someone has trouble using the AF-lock on in 4K, check if you have Proxy recording on! It doesn't work if that's on and you record 4K for some reason.
Found this channel today. Really nice and useful content :) Just a small comment on 2:06. You can also avoid the auto-swapping between monitor and evf by pulling the rear screen just slightly out from the body as it disables the auto-swapping feature.

I know it is older but my 70D, the one camera most shooters had before 4K times.... I have a question. On my Canon 5D Mark III I could set the audio to auto and it would automatically adjust if I was with vlogging or what have you. Does this camera not have an auto audio setting?
thanks man!great video! when i press a shutter speed button half way i get a a green box focus hold and when it pressed completelt down it starts recording and a focus hold disappears.any idea how to have that focus hold while it records? thanks man

Best set up video ever, you got me want to by a Sony in the first 5 minutes!
I litterly bought two expensive film courses because I want to do this full time. In both courses they tell you to get out and start shooting yet both of them do not give any info on how to get the camera running from the start. lol Best Video on RUclips!
Wow I would love to see how you colour graded the start up woods scene from Green to reds etc. Such an awesome look.
