Japantown's sorrow has made it the best of Mid-Century Trendy.
Bay Area Japanese history also lives, in so many people's yards,
from the rich history of Japanese nurseries and the plants they have sold over the years.

WOW!! My father was born in 1911. He survived the greatest explosion before Trinity, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Thanks to Canon and SONY, I love Japan! The last movie that made me cry WAS Japanese. I've met two Japanese ambassadors to Canada too. The Japan Society in New York and Japantown in San Francisco. Gotta get there too!

Auction a few of "those desks" off in the right place and you'll have all the funds you need.

I went to both Hoshuko and Kinmon. I liked Hoshuko better.
Not saying Kinmon was bad but it did feel more rundown without anything really upkept.
It's been over 2 decades since I attended but the environment to me was hard to deal with. I agree about retrofitting.
I don't know about this economy. Saw a comment about getting the emperor to help fund but Japan's economy is bad too.

Urban renewal destroyed many many buildings in minority communities. Most of these communities were bulldozed for highways and parking lots. The impacts are still being felt today, especially in cities like New York where highways and parkways crisscross the country.
A lot of work still needs to be done to reverse the damage.

I'm Japanese Japanese in California but the place means nothing to me. It's an American heritage and it should be treated as such because America is a country of immigrants and native Americans.

It’s meaningful to those with ties to the community. Of course it’s not as meaningful to someone from Japan.

@@ang5035Of course, it's meaningful to someone with a tie to the community, but that's not my point. The entire country should embrace this cultural and historical heritage because America is not a homogeneous community. Not having a tie to the local community is not a reason or excuse for not supporting if you are an American.
