This story hits my heart. My grandmother used to be a seamstress. She loved doing it. I can't remember a time I didn't see her at her machine. Made all my clothes until I was about 12. The talent of sewing, knitting, crochet, etc., is just amazing. It's wholesome. It's beautiful. It's LOVE ❤️
god has not forgotten about us i been watching these videos for 10 mins and god has sent us angels to help such kindness inspires me and reminds me what life is really about.
Steve Hartman...ferreting out pockets of hope, compassion, joy and love just because he can but mostly because we need that in our World everyday. Six years later... I'm saying thank you Michael Swaine and Steve Hartman. 🧡 (And I learned to sew on a machine just like that one, what a magnificent machine! 👑)
Thank you so much for the work that you put out from your heart to help a community that everybody deemed it useless. It's not how much you do it's that your fact that you're putting effort to give them attention like they mean something which they do. You put a smile on everyone's face which that alone is very special. God bless you and thank you for being so wonderful and very loving.
Lived many years in San Francisco. Moved from Twin Peaks to Nob Hill. Life happened and moved from Nob Hill to the Tenderloin. Couldn't have been happier or had better neighbors . . . that I actually knew by name.
Thankyou for sharing. Very happy to see people creating happiness & social cohesion. When people stop to talk that will help build community as well as people getting their clothes fixed. Maybe he could train some assistants? Skillshare.
I love this story. I love this guy. I love this community. (and you too, reporter.) I do not mend everything I wear, but I do mend key clothing for myself. It takes a knack. A lot of appreciation for how this all adds up for everyone involved. ty (Doing those backpacks; what a blessing.)
What a generous and awesome man! This is such a wonderful idea to repair and reuse clothing for those that don't sew and need help. I had to smile at the White Rotary he is using...I have that one in my living room, in its original ornate wood cabinet 1911.
I love to sew...I learned by myself when I was only 10 years old, I just to make dresses for my dolls. Now days I saved so much money repairing my old cloth bring then back to new styles, or buying clothing that need to repair for a cheeper price (good brands).
@@chrisdelagarza8048 I think sewing is neat. And you get much more satisfaction making something or having it made rather than buying something that was made in an overseas sweatshop from Walmart.
That looks exactly like my grandma's sewing machine that she bought new in 1929 (except hers was an electric) My brother has it now. Michael is so selfless in that all he does is give and he loves doing it. And this is more satisfying than buying something made overseas at Walmart.
Stitch in Time Saves Nine. This proverb simply means that it requires only a few stitches to repair a small tear in a garment. But if you ignore it, the tear will become bigger requiring more stitches. This means that you have to put in more efforts to get it mended. A PERFECT METAPHOR WHAT WHAT THIS KIND SOUL DOES....not ony for garments...but HEARTS.
I've lived in the tenderloin years ago and found it one of the best communities I've ever lived in. the bonding and valuing of the people is the real riches here, not the real estate.
VAIBHAV MONGA Thank you to the hands that sew our garments. I send you all blessings for your love and labor, so we may be clothed in beauty and colors of every season.💚
Alexia Sexia she said she doesn’t have money to buy or fix things. So why not go and talk to the guy to see if he can help? If he is willing to then what’s the problem?
@@chadmcfly1299 You are right...will be next step that Michael teach them how to stitch a hem, a hole, or just to repair by hand?...will be wonderful....
Just a question, we all know about the STRIFE of the cities, WITH MONEY, what about the rural COMMUNITIES with Old white guys complaining about people THEY DON'T EVEN WANT TO KNOW. and we get a commercial about SUNGLASSES. LMDAO
@@marelkeroux8066 been to TX? that place is over-run with homeless. Trump says the mayor of Fort Worth is his "favorite mayor". Homeless are all over that city.
Celebrating good people, like Michael, is a wonderful use of RUclips.
I love the stories Steve Hartman tells ..so amazing
I watch his statement on documenting humanity....Thank you Steve you are a PLEASURE TREASURE..

Love this series. Steve Hartman has the most wonderful job. Traveling around, meeting amazing americans who live to help others.
One good stitch can repair a life and bring happiness. ♥
Wow, I’m always amazed by how wonderful humanity can be! He’s a true hero 🦸♂️

So many people have forgotten the art of sewing. But if you ever had your favorite shirt, pants mended you know how happy it makes you feel.

The best seamstresses are women, and the best tailors are men, in my opinion.
@Vivian S
Absolutely you’re right dear. I pay one man $250 to make me one suit a year. the same I pay for my wife so a lady can make her a dress 👗..

This man sees the value in what others might want to throw away -- whether that be clothes, or human beings.

Very inspirational! Another jwel
Who would throw away a near-perfect vintage sewing machine? Those old singers will probably outlive the next 5 generations
Living Saints.
Simply awesome.💕
Man I love Steve
What a cool guy❤️🙏❤️
Awsome, Mr Swaine...
Amazing man
OMG!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you ♥️♥️♥️
The world has hope afterall. My first thought.
I have not seen a manual sawing machine for forty years. They are super heavy.
All these little things that make a Big Difference.
How cool is that?!?
Amazing
This video is 9 years old, oh sweet summer art teacher.
Cool story! As the saying goes. "A stitch in time saves nine!"
Great man xx
How cool!
A darling angel
Who would toss a beautiful antique like that to the side of the road?
The same kind of people who throw away their parent's lifetime of work and dreams in estate sales. This is the Walmart disposable generation
Freakin awesome!!!
May Allah swt guide him n bless him.
I should do this I have a machine I sew
Please do it, do not shy away, you'll help sooooo many people
This is awesome
Nice man
LOV YOU 😍😍😍😍😍
guy looks like a real life mr. rodgers
Mr. Rogers was real life. As far as anyone knows, what he was in TV was what he really was.
I actually thought the presenter was rude when he said ...We're looking in the same place 👎
did he just brought this machine from india. this machine is very popular in india, tailor use them all the time
You have all those antique machines in Bangladesh and India from which your clothes are made.

Hummmm, I wonder why CNN, MSNBC, ABC, Fox News, BBC and all the other local and World News agency don't show these stories?
Pixar should make a sewing machine animation story !

Another 👼
Im so worried about his hand, he might end up filming scary movie 2 again.

you dont need to be rich to make a difference in someones life

This is awesome. I do the same thing with a group of ladies. LaVonne Phila. If I get a email from him/ you, I’ll respond. Thanks.
Guys the politicians don't care
This same think happens in my country :) Only for women.
Okay correct me if I'm wrong but did that girl really just go to downtown just to get her s*** stitch for free

He turns down the money. People offer to pay, he's not there for the money
I love how liberal cities and states show so much empathy and care for its people.
Hahahahahha!! Ok they also have the most homeless 🤔
