    So a sump is basically a filter? So if you have a sump you don’t need a filter? Or is a sump an addition to the standard filters people use?

    • @BulkReefSupply
      @BulkReefSupply  2 года назад

      Think of a sump as the area that holds your filtration equipment. The sump is where you place your reactors, skimmers, refugium, mechanical filtration, or any others that you might be using. It's also a great place to put your heater. This way, everything is out of sight in your main display.

    Wow. So complicated. I remember when I got my first fish tank when I was like 12. I didn't use RUclips so i had no guidance. But as a kid i figured that fish needed water, heater, filter (hob filter is all I knew about) and dechlorinator. When i saw my tank hot dirty i actually took all the water out and scrubbed my tank and everything in it squeaky clean. I had no clue about the tank cycle and bacteria. Even though I did all this my fish which consisted of betas and some parrot fish lived for 2 to 3 years. Now i am getting back into fish keeping again and i am like "wth" when I see all this crazy stuff that some fish keepers do.

      How has your journey of re-entering the hobby been so far? What fish are you keeping now and have you found anything new that you find interesting? I would like to recommend a few other RUclipsrs for you that you can learn from, King of DIY, Aquarium Coop, KaveMan Aquatics, Coral12g and Predatory Fins these 5 RUclipsrs have a lot of knowledge on many parts of the hobby and are entertaining to watch/listen to, for purely entertainment Paul Cuffaro, Nick Bingo, Chainsawtrout and Paul Stingray. I hope you find these guys useful.

      @@Lewisloui yes i have run into some of these RUclipsrs. Kave man Aquatics has been my main one though. As for me everything has been good with getting back into the hobby. Got a 55 gallon tank kit that had everything i needed but i still added a fx6 to it. I know over kill huh? Reason why I got the fx6 is not only because it's good but because i plan on transferring it over to a 200 gallon + tank i want to get in the future. FX6 is primarily used for mechanical filtration and bio media and the HOB filter the tank came with has all my chemical media in it this way i can swap it out a lot easier. I went ahead and got some starter fish again since that's what my kids loved. I've got tiger barbs, Roseline sharks, neon tetras and 2 blood parrot fish. Think i have like 20 fish in total and so far I've only lost one due to illness. I think i actually purchased him with this Illness and it wasn't caused by his living condition in my tank. Other than that all my fish have been healthy and well. I even had to move all of them from Cali to Arizona and they all made it just fine. Did the good ole homer bucket with a battery air bubbler trick. What's crazy about this trick is that i actually had to leave them in the bucket for nearly a entire day since i had to take a stop at a relatives house on my way to my new Arizona home and even like that they survived in the bucket. Of course i had to put a small water heater in the bucket while i was at my relatives house.

      @@edgararcega3046 Awesome, funny you mention the fx6, I was doing maintenance on my 55gallon and my fx6 wouldn't turn back on so I cleaned the propeller and it snapped :( currently waiting on a replacement but won't get it until Wednesday I'm honestly lucky that I run 2 canisters on that tank because all my media in my fx6 is sitting in a water barrel with a pump to keep it from dying. I'm hoping that I don't need to replace the whole motor unit because that will probably not arrive until Saturday

      @@Lewisloui damn that sucks. Did you buy the fx6 from PetSmart? Only reason I ask is because them fools tried selling me a used canister filter twice. Wasn't until the 3rd exchange that i got a brand new one. First 2 fx6 units gave me many problems because they were used and the 3rd has been running with 0 issues since September 2021

    • @BulkReefSupply
      @BulkReefSupply  3 года назад

      This is completely personal preference. You can also use a hang on back overflow without having to drill your aquarium.

    You can add impressive efficiency by using a simple low flow pump and making a feed back loop. Position the pump at the exit side of the sump and add silicon tubing to the beginning of the sump or sump compartment.

      @@oxiac6006 Not if you have a protein skimmer in the middle. They are not that efficient and pushing the water back to the start has the skimmer re-skimming or any media in the sump for that matter.
