The whole party sequence is probably my favorite part of the whole film. This song jolting in, up through the red and white pulsing lights. Stunning visuals.

The lack of narrative didn't bother me either, the film was all about symbolism and visual storytelling. Reminded me allot of Mulholland Drive, almost like Lynch and Kubrick had a lovechild.

the movie could've used a bit more story and a bit less style, but the music is on point.
More story and less style? Are you crazy? It sounds like you didn't get the movie, the story was as good as a Kubrick film its not your typical easy to watch kinda movie.
i know how you feel about it, but the ideia of the movie is exactly about beauty, and how "beauty isn't everything, it's the only thing", so the story wasn't really thaaat necessary

Try the Coen Brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson and David Lynch. True masters. Jeremy Saulnier is looking very promising as well after his films Blue Ruin and Green Room.
Slab Bulkhead You forgot Scosese, Tarantino, Kubrick, Coppola, Hitchcock, Nolan, Aronofsky, Villenueve, Inarritu, Spielberg, and Ridley Scott just to name a few.
+IncorporatedOps Nolan and Scott are English (besides, Scott has an iffy track record despite directing Alien and Blade Runner), Villenueve is French-Canadian, Inarritu is Mexican, Tarantino sorta lost me after Inglorious Basterds (I marginally enjoyed The Hateful Eight), Scorsese is great but I haven't been too impressed with his work since The Departed and Shutter Island, Kubrick, Hitchcock and Coppola (unless you're referring to Sofia) are dead, and Spielberg and Aronofsky are very hit and miss for me. I should add Wes Anderson to the list though. Also, Rian Johnson. Loved Brick and Looper.
