Shaquille O'Neale was also one of those rookies who never (I think) experienced rookie hazing cause he was a big dude and acted as such. There was this story when a Scott Skiles told Shaq "Carry my bags rookie" and Shaq literally replied "I'm not a rookie, I'm the franchise". They left him alone after that. Pretty much sums up Diesel's career in the NBA.

Kid, these 1975 shorty shorts these dumbasses are wearing today makes everyone who wears them look like a buncha gay soy boys running around like fairies. Sit down. Yeah they were a little too baggy, but from about 91/92 to about 2002 they were perfect length. Just above the kneecap, some guys wore longer ones, like TJ Ford he wore 7 footer shorts at barely 6’0 and looked hilarious, but still. 99% of the league had normal length shorts. They actually still looked like men. With the gay ass universal haircut in the NBA right now and their ‘75 shorty shorts, you QUITE LITERALLY can’t tell the difference between the NBA and the WNBA right now. Sit down. A lot more maturity and focus, and a vision for what he wanted. Just think about his career if he hadn't reuped with shitty Cleveland after the 1st four years. They wasted 7 years of his career bringing in Mo Williams and Antwan Jamison. That is what is shocking. He was literally put in the worst situation in league history as no team was as bad as the Cavaliers from 1990 to 2003. They had the worst ownership, were the worst destination for free agents, and had the worst players when he showed up. They all had to deal with a 19yr old coming into the league already being compared all time greats without a single dribble. This rubbed a lot of veteran players who had pride and had to swallow that ego because before day 1 this was already the Bron show.
With todays hype machine its tough to explain how much clout Bron had as a senior in HS.

The thing with Lebron was it was obvious he was ready to play in the NBA from day one. You dont pass on a talent like that and put him thrugh the haze system. Jealousy is a real thing and out of all people, vbeterans need to understand better than anyone else that talent is talent and there is nothing you can do about it, except for nurture it and not deliberately try to kill it and destroy it.
They are called PROFFESIONALS for a reason. Them acting like some high school drama class queens just goes to show how unproffesional they were to begin with and why the Cleveland were in a position to even have a number 1 pick.
I am glad humble Europeans like Jokic are dominating the league now because American players have been acting out like primadonas for too long. The NBA became a me me me first sport instead of a team sport where every player contributes.

I remember not watching NBA basketball after the 98 finals. And one of the reasons was that many players of my generation (born in 79-83) were the products of the Jordan generation (those who grew up watching the Be Like Mike commercials).
They had the ego but not the complete package to live up to MJ's talent and legacy. Only LeBron from that same generation did. Props to LeBron for having a great great career.

This may sound crazy but the most talent LeBron ever had during his first Cleveland stint was his rookie year.
If they had just bought in and understood he was the one they may have had the building blocks for a championship team.
There was nobody brought in the 6 years after his rookie season that was more talented than Ricky Davis, Carlos Boozer, Pre knee injury Darius Miles and DeJuan Wagner.
The only thing trading them away did for LeBron was force him to be Superman without another bucket getter.

I always say this. Dejuan had a great rookie season it’s just that the Cavs never expected to be in the position to draft Lebron. Once they did , the fact the basically played the same position early on took him out of the team plans. Changed the whole trajectory of his career. I know he had some stomach issues but had he had his own team they would’ve been more willing to see him through to healing & becoming the player they expected Dejuan to be when drafted. But boy was definitely his city before Lebron as a pro. Should’ve gave them a chance to play together. After Dejuan was traded noone was looking at him like the Cavs were when they first drafted him by that point. & health issues. It’s was over with. Let him stick around a couple years to get a couple more checks.

Young Lebron was crazy and fun to watch. Sometime around "the decision" to go to the Heat is where I started disliking his leadership and style though. He's an all-time great for sure, but that aspect kind of ruined it for me. Seeing him go from a super baller high schooler that took a horrible team and built them up to the finals in a few years, only to jump ship to make a super team in Miami, while simultaneously getting cocky and seeming to get worse cardio from bulking and ego stopping his defensive energy, kind of wrecked it for me. But, I've never seen anyone get so hyped at such a young age and so immediately over-deliver on that promise

It was enviable he'd be hated. Here, you have seasoned vets with a lot more experience. Then they bring in hHS upstart and hand him the keys to drive the team. Calling him the chosen one didn't foster any love or respect for him either. Yes, LJ did help them get to the championship fours later in 2007 against the spurs and lost. The commentators still made it look like did it buy himself but back to his rookie season in 2003. He did well by putting up #s equalling these of grown men. Although ihe was only 18 and had the body, height, weight, and most all the skills to be an nba player along with all the hype. It's still understandable why his teammates were so apprehensive to go along with the program. In their minds, he's still a snot nose kid. What does he know? NBA history has proven LJ knew a lot even at a young age. He was definitely ready to play at pro level. Remember that video of LJ and Melo in the gym together they were both young. Melo asked him are you really 18 because he looked older and mature for his age.

Lebron was probably protected by the organization as far as “rookie hazen” was concerned. The vets probably weren’t able to mess with him. Like going to the store for them, carrying their bags, etc. So I’m sure that added fuel to the fire of them not liking him. Also I’m sure being in Cleveland, Lebron had his day 1 boyz with him and not his teammates. I could be wrong, but it’s the only thing I can think of because Lebron seems like a good dude and seems to always be team 1st.

The problem I had w/ that video of the cavs "hating" on Lebron is pretty much what you pointed out. Their entire role changed to help someone brand new on the team. It happens on team sports. Paul Silias to me was the one that handled that situation wrong as he couldn't manage the egos/personalities. Sounded like Paul had issues w/ Davis from their past.
The other point you mentioned about walking on eggshells around him is also true. But again, I put that on the coach and to a degree the Cavs org.
Last point, the teammates supposedly not cheering. It be interesting to see how they cheered when someone else on the team scored. I feel like the cheering was taken out of context. You're not going to celebrate every single point

They was jealous. Even before he came to the team they was talking about him like he was a normal rookie and he woukd have to go along with their program...Anytime you draft a franchise player the roles of other players change. The Cavs were the worst team I'm basketball.Their record was 17 wins amd 65 losses..The players already there were not getting the job done..Lebron was drafted as the franchise piece to change the entire direction of the team.He meant a lot being a local kid and being the best prospect since Micahel Jordan..The players were selfish, did not olay team ball and undisciplined....Michael Jordan did not het that reaction from his teamates..He came innthe league as the biggest attraction? Averaging over 27 points per game..Being talked about all the time. The Bulls did not react with jealousy they rolled with it.Magic Johnson came in under hoopla, BIRD came in the same way..A number of other players too like Ewing, Olajuwon, Shaq, Garnett, Allen Iverson, Carmelo, and others...The teamates embraced these guys..Cleveland had a bunch of selfish, spoiled and ineffective players who did not play team ball..Even Carlos Boozer was a rookie and backed out the next year on Cleveland because they allowed him out of his contract to renegotiate..Ricky Davis had a year averaging 20 points the year before LeBron but only shot 41% ..Lebron always treasured ILGAUSKAS because he treated him well hisbrookie year and he never forgot that..IF players would have acted like that when Jordan was a rookie they woukd have been gone too.I am from Chicago and have been watching the NBA since the late 70s
