    I, for one, welcome our new robotic overlords

  • @privateprivate8366
    @privateprivate8366 4 года назад +8

    The problem is that there are just not a lot of options out there.
    One of the offerings is the Catmate C500 and other models that offer a rotating, opening of food compartments or a single compartment food dispenser. I have 2 of the C500s. But, I’ve never needed to use them. I bought them in the event I suddenly had to travel. Last year I had an overnight business trip during the winter so, it was very easy to just leave some opened cans of cat food, some which had been frozen, to thaw on their own. I left at least a months worth of dry food as, if I died on my trip, my 2 cats wouldn’t be discovered for awhile since I don’t have family.
    The problem I have with these, other than the severe limitation on number of feedings, is that I’m terrified about their reliability and lack of connectivity. If the mechanism got kinked up or the battery didn’t last, I wouldn’t even be made aware that my pets are going hungry, while I’m on some business trip that might actually amount to mostly nothing, as last year’s actually did. In addition to that, some of these are advertised or written about as “refrigerated”. Seriously??? Refrigeration does not mean an ice pack that will melt in the time it takes you to get in a plane! Particularly during Summer. That’s just nuts! If you even went away for 3-4 days, you’d likely come home to a hungry, starving or even dead pet and spoiled food with maggots! Yeah, no thanks!
    You could board your pets, have someone come in or take them with you but, travel is enough of a hassle, a pet death would “alter” your relationship with your job and giving some stranger the key? Fck no!

    • @privateprivate8366
      @privateprivate8366 Месяц назад

      I just picked up a PetLibro Polar. FINALL and it didn’t cost $3-4K!!! It is actually refrigerated, although I assume, by a Peltier chip. Wet food, which could probably cover both of my cats, for 3 days, provided one doesn’t overeat. 3 days is not enough, if you’re gone for longer than 1 weekend. But, it’s better than the nothing that’s been on the market, for 20+ years. I “think” it is supposed to cool to 43 degrees. “Almost” sufficient as, your human refrigerator shouldn’t be higher than 38 degrees, to prevent bacteria growth. Like your refrigerator, this is also subject to ambient temperature also. But, again, better than nothing.
      But, by October, hopefully, the BistroCat feeder will be released. You can still try to get introductory pricing also. This has 16 places for food that comes sealed in what probably isn’t like a pudding cup. The key here? The food doesn’t have to be refrigerated. So, I’d guess, whatever the temperature, you’re good. The difference here is that you must order the food pods, from the manufacturer so, stick up before your journey. Other than that, this might be the better option, for some.
      I’m glad these things are finally hitting the market. Many pet lives have passed, while waiting.
      Keep in mind tThese are not only good for vacations. If you don’t like the idea of a stranger having the key to your place, coming in to feed your cats, your cats not liking strangers, the cost, the cat possibly escaping.m, these are wonderful. But, it is also great, if you need to be away, to care for a relative or for a medical procedure. If you know no one who is willing to feed your cats, even in that situation, multi day connected wet food feeders are great, as long as you have web connectivity.

      This is an amazing idea and an awesome product. I like the whole the process and the technology. Opening the can, pouring into the bowl, cleaning and collecting the bowl are great. I'd like to share some thoughts.

    • @90JunjunJun
      @90JunjunJun 6 лет назад +3

      I understand everything is done by the robotic arm. But why not design a new can opener. So you can stack the cans under the opener. Maybe the new opener you designed can open the can from the bottom. The food can directly goes to the bowl which is placed under the can. Then the only thing that robotic arm needs to do is to grab the bowl, push it out and take the bowl back when finish. And we can remove the wash bucket in the machine. Users can worry less about the bacteria. Your company can lower your cost and make it more reliable.

    Only issue I see is my cat food may not shake out easily as it’s thick and a bit gummy. I will have to get a looser brand when I need it. Hopefully you’ll consider partnering with some reliable pet food companies. If so please make sure its a company that has excellent quality ingredients as well as limited ingredient options.

    While this looks cool, it strikes me as over complicated. What i and many other cat owners are looking for. is a simple machine that can open those vacuum sealed cardboard wet food containers and just drop the food out on a plate. Less moving parts the better as it's less complicated and less expensive.

    I can think of so many ways this design could be improved upon. I'm curious where the bowl goes when the pet is finished eating for starters.
    Honestly, though, we should be feeding our pets ourselves. It's part of the bonding process. It's how we can keep track of exactly how much our pets are eating.
    Why have pets if you can't feed them, pick up after them, or play with them?

    • @privateprivate8366
      @privateprivate8366 4 года назад +2

      Harold Ivan speaking for myself, I’m not under the impression that most people would buy it for everyday use, although some might. What would likely initiate this purchase is being stuck in traveling for work or for being in the hospital. That sort of thing. Many people live alone with pets and many more might in the future. Not everyone feels comfortable having someone come in, boarding their pet or traveling with them.
      I, for one, rarely travel, and had to suddenly travel early last year. It was only an overnight trip, where I could leave wet food and had even frozen some cans to thaw on their own. But, it would have been an absolute nightmare if I had to trace for several days as, I’d have had to bring them with me since, there’s no one else to feed them and they have not been acclimated to eat dry food only.

    • @babygrl14

I don't see much use for this moreover, half the fun of having stunning beautiful ball of fluff or in my case 5 balls of fluff I would much rather feed my animals directly don't be lazy and do it this way do this everyday?

  • @ghostflier520
    @ghostflier520 6 лет назад

    Wow.. if you're to lazy to feed your pet, or to put it up in a pet hotel when you leave town, just don't have an animal live with you, you don't deserve to have one..

    • @watchingyou7945
      @watchingyou7945 5 лет назад +7

      Pet hotels aren’t always an option for cats. I have a highly stressed out cat that has IBD and would stop eating if she had to stay in another environment other than her home. If an emergency came up such as when my Mother was in ICU out of town and I had to be with my Mother, this Pawbot would have helped me spend more time with my Mom before she passed away on 9/14/18. Because I didn’t have this option, I had to drive 8 hours each day I wanted to go see her in the hospital. So, not too lazy to feed my pets btw and probably a much better pet parent than most people!
