Thanks for these tutorials, Casmo! When engaging multiple targets with rapid fire, would a HI trajectory on the 2nd and subsequent missiles help the Hellfire steer to the next target if it's farther away than in your example (not to mention giving me more time to switch targets)? And is there a way to rapidly slew the sensor(s) to stored targets (like for example in the A-10 with mark points?
In the old games, Apache, Jane's longbow, Gunship! etc the key feature in the laser guided hellfires was that you had that ripple capability. You selected high-trajectory Lock-On-After-Launch feature and ranged the target before launch. That ranging programmed the hellfires in those games to know at what range they are suppose to be pointing down in terminal phase. In those games you basically went up to peek targets and designate the area / targets (as in reality you don't move so quickly if not ready to go) and get back to cover, just having enough space between you and the cover you are behind to, ripple fire hellfires with wanted period, like every 5 seconds or so. And then wait the count time for "laze" to go zero, when you were suppose to be ready to pop-up visible and designate target with laser. On moment the impact happens, you shift the sight on new target and laze. Boom, shift, laze, boom... repeat that by 2-4 times (10-20 seconds period). I don't know did those old games have a proper flight time or those, but that was the coolest thing you could learn to do. And it was very easy as all you needed was to hit "Next/Previous target" button and system automatically jumped between targets. Now how quickly you can actually in Apache switch the target source and slave to it is another thing (I haven't done that in GCP side yet with designations). But AFAIK you need to use the other MFD to hit button to switch between targets, or maybe you need to use even the cursor to select the different target points. But I just think it is far faster to just use the sight slewing to get to them, and use stored targets as larger separated targets areas.
When not in a steady hover, or "sketchy" flight, it is hard to keep the tads stable enough to drop an accurate Target mark. Then, once target is dropped, it doesn't seem like you can make fine adjustments to that if it's out of place without renabling the "wobbly" site. Is there a way I've missed to keep the target spot locked in place via tads or to make fine adjustments to the spot of T01?
No, pilots are trained in both seats simultaneously. For example Casmo mentioned in his first training flight he was in the back seat, and in the second he was in the front. I think even on deployment crews alternate positions to stay current on both seats.
@@ChickentNug from my previous Air force days as an Junior USAF ICBM officer, we upgrade from deputy position to the commander position in the span of about 11 months based on weapon system knowledge, EWO, simulator evaluations and leadership abilities. I wonder is the weapon system and control copy from real prototype? Like when they create new module they consulting with army or it just simple representation of weaponary from open source?
Had to go back and watch this again, the code section was great. Had a conflict on a mission where my missile were tracking the JTAC instead of georges own laser. Kan you "step" between the missiles and set all the channels in advance for expected channels/codes?

Out of curiosity is the CP/G a career position like a RIO in the tomcat or is it more like a wingman that would eventually move to a flight lead or in this case Pilot.
Hi cosmo, as in with your recent video for night flying. As a pilot you had the tads slaved to the pilot HMD. You also showed it as a CPG. So to see the video that the CPG is seeing such as the tads view and not having to have the video up in one MFD . So Is that video->video underlay CPG sight or CPG HMD? Or ami really off
Very cool. Question: Why delay between firing missiles when multiple targets are saved? Why not destroy 4 simultaneously if you can with rapid hellfire launches in quick succession?
Sorry if it's already been asked, but with newer pilots you can imagine multicrew hovering engagements are never that steady. Having to use the LMC to find targets has been mandatory but when i lase and fire with the LMC engaged as sort of a "point track" my missile lands roughly 20 meters away in no particular direction. is this intended, desync or a bug?
So theh Laser Spot Tracker, missle tracks other laser paint. The Laser Range tracker is what ever I laser paint pretty much. I hope this didn't confuse anyone!
Does the TADS track moving targets like point mode on a TGP in the airplanes? Or do you have to manually track them yourself while ground unit is moving?
My understanding is... Yes, but not as effective as the litening and such that we're used to. There's image auto track/offset and IAT polarity which tells it what to track. That's as far as I can help as I'm still button mashing trying to learn this thing.

@@CasmoTV That almost certainly was what was causing it, I always overide on the ground while i'm prepping, but always just left it on. Thanks for answering back!
I feel so much smarter after watching your videos! Question: What would a "real world" scenario be that I would 'STORE' any targets as opposed to just engaging right away? And also: What about moving targets? Can those be 'locked' somehow so you don't need to live slew them?
As far as i know you can transmit the location data of the stored targets to other aircraft ( friendly forces ) in case you are out of hellfire rockets and others still have some but could not locate targets in short time. So they can fire Hellfires on your stored targets. Alternatively you can also lase those targets too if their position doesn`t allow them to lase themselves. And as far as i know there is no "Lock" function on ANY target ... not even the non-moving targets. You have to press the laser button all the time and track the targets manually with the crosshair ( sometimes little corrections necessary ) until the hellfire hits the target. A great challenge on moving targets !
Hows the Apache performance wise, just looking by how choppy the vod is. I assume it will be much better on release or futher down the line since its being released on the open beta branch.

Or is the answer a better Pilot? Lol.
no long sleeve T-shirts?
why is this at 20fps?
how do you lase?
@@JSRJS turns out I had the bind mapped correctly, but laser was turned off by default on the utility page on the MFD.
Does Apache pilot in the real world upgrade from the front seat to the rear seat as training and rank progresses?
No, pilots are trained in both seats simultaneously. For example Casmo mentioned in his first training flight he was in the back seat, and in the second he was in the front. I think even on deployment crews alternate positions to stay current on both seats.
From what I've heard, they're trained in both, but the most senior-ranking of the two is always the pilot
@@ChickentNug from my previous Air force days as an Junior USAF ICBM officer, we upgrade from deputy position to the commander position in the span of about 11 months based on weapon system knowledge, EWO, simulator evaluations and leadership abilities. The commander then is responsible of mentoring the new Lts coming to the unit from tech school. I'm not sure how the attack helicopter squadron does their thing. Interesting to know.
Banging these videoes out!
mah boi puttin out *all* the content. I'm happy ED has opened this up to CC's
frame rate on the video is pretty bad
@@josephrosenbaum3343 Yeah, those are recorded on pre-release versions.
I wonder is the weapon system and control copy from real prototype? Like when they create new module they consulting with army or it just simple representation of weaponary from open source?
Open source. Always.
is the LST already working?
Not yet
@@CasmoTV thanks :)
Had to go back and watch this again, the code section was great. Had a conflict on a mission where my missile were tracking the JTAC instead of georges own laser. Kan you "step" between the missiles and set all the channels in advance for expected channels/codes?
Whats the button to store the target?
Hi i get a massage saying los invalid ,how do i correct it,havong hard time here. and do i have to have waypoint in order to fire.i tried with fxd but no luck
I’d have to see what you mean and how you are set up.
@@CasmoTV DO you guys have a mp server where i can join for some lessons?
Out of curiosity is the CP/G a career position like a RIO in the tomcat or is it more like a wingman that would eventually move to a flight lead or in this case Pilot.
Not at all. Everyone is the same. We swap seats routinely.
How do you slave the TADS to your sight???
Your sight as in your helmet? Acquisition source CPG
You still have to guide the first one in. Not sure I understand what you’re asking.
Sorry if it's already been asked, but with newer pilots you can imagine multicrew hovering engagements are never that steady. Having to use the LMC to find targets has been mandatory but when i lase and fire with the LMC engaged as sort of a "point track" my missile lands roughly 20 meters away in no particular direction. is this intended, desync or a bug?
thanks Chief
Hello guys, please tell me the size of the TADS screen, I'm making a 3d model for my cockpit. Thanks Casmo for the tutorial :)
i did the same as in your video i got ihads b/s what to do?
So theh Laser Spot Tracker, missle tracks other laser paint. The Laser Range tracker is what ever I laser paint pretty much. I hope this didn't confuse anyone!
You mentioned you could do x8 targets at the end of the video, could you do a demonstration for taking out x8 targets consecutively as mentioned?
Yeah I will at some point. It’s just timing.
QUICK QUESTION, HOW DO YOU LASE TARGETS? DO I HAVE TO GO INTO CONTROLS AND SET THAT UP OR IS IT ON THE LHG/RHG?
RHG trigger, second detent.
@@martindinner3621 thank you got it now
Does the TADS track moving targets like point mode on a TGP in the airplanes? Or do you have to manually track them yourself while ground unit is moving?
My understanding is... Yes, but not as effective as the litening and such that we're used to. There's image auto track/offset and IAT polarity which tells it what to track. That's as far as I can help as I'm still button mashing trying to learn this thing.
Correct. Also everyone has a very false impression of how good such systems are.
@@CasmoTV so how do you guys track? Manually or combination of both? I can see these systems def not as reliable in real life w so many other factors
How do you slave tads to your hmd like that?
Set AQC to CPG
What of controls are you using?
Is there a hover mode or altitude hold for the Apache? Having trouble getting into a hover
Not in EA but yea
I hope some onw make a tutorial that I can follow till the end lol, you guys always start with now we gona use the RQS to turn on the QQP and now we gonna press zoom and vuala: I'm lost
Just gotta git gud.
I’m kidding. Yeah it’s hard to explain it “simply” sometimes. I’ll do more in the future. Just gauging what the issues are.
I can’t tell if i’m doing something wrong or if i’m running into a bug, but when I change my LST to code bravo, and my LRF to code alpha my remote message does not go away, but my hellfire status does change from PR to AR, so i’m very lost.
Some people are having issues cause they ground over ride. Turn that off and recycle arm/safe.
Obviously there no need for the LOAL/LOBL boxes to be overlaying the target or the target to be inside them, just wondering why that is?
I mean I explain it in the video… it’s a constraints line up
@@CasmoTV Sorry, I guess I missed that bit , probably checking update download status ;)
Good vid
can you track a moving object
Manually yes. The auto tracker isn’t instituted yet
@@CasmoTV oh i was talking about auto tracker nice video btw I can't wait for you to try Kiowa
now why are there 3 rockets sticking so far out of the pod?
Illumination
Whoa whoa whoa! Can we talk about canopy jettison?!?!
Can you lock on target like on Ka-50 I see you always do some small correction on target of it just helicopter drifting, thank you.
Yea but it’s not in EA I believe. Atleast not what I had.
@@CasmoTV Thank you and happy flying when they release 64. :)
im having trouble storing at all :/
Hows the Apache performance wise, just looking by how choppy the vod is. I assume it will be much better on release or futher down the line since its being released on the open beta branch.
I’m sorry that you think it’s choppy.
