Breaking down the basics of Launch Modes: LOBL = Hellfire leaves launch rail and begins to climb (Terminal climb to penetrate top armor of target). This is the most common method of firing Hellfires and gives the shooter the ability to confirm both correct laser code and line of sight. LOAL DIR = Hellfire leaves launch rail on a flat trajectory until seeker receives PCLE (properly coded laser energy), then climbs. Best for targets with laser detection systems or when engagement area has low ceilings. LOAL LO/HI = Hellfire leaves launch rail and climbs immediately to avoid obstacle between launcher and target (either a high or low obstacle). Not commonly used but has its purpose.
Always love the passion. Got back from Fort Novosel over the Memorial Day weekend with 6-17 CAV. Aviation Commander there as the old S-3, XO and Squadron Commander as well as the Col who moved us from Hawaii to Alaska. Great seeing old friends and some W-5's we served with and all that great stuff. Just wanted to say this reminds me about multitasking. Doing everything the aircraft requires along with commo, situational awareness, loadout, fuel, and everything else. Never gets old. I and R model guy, retired over 10 years now and miss it!
Thank you for doing these instructional videos, Casmo. I am an old guy, saving my $ for a computer good enough to play DCS on and the rest of the peripherals necessary. Your videos are far and away the clearest training tools out there, and give me hope that when I finally do get set up I will be able to enjoy the game.
I really appreciate these excellent tutorials, I know they're probably a pain to make. After watching them all I feel like I'm totally ready for the KW. I can't wait to finish my bindings, then realize I forgot everything and come back and watch these 3-4 times each all over again...
I watch all of your Kiowa Warrior videos you post, and really cant wait to fly it. It just feels awesome to fly, just how i imagined it would be. Dont know why, never was too fond of the Apache. The Kiowa always appealed to me more. Thanks for your content Casmo.
Again , such a pro. It turns out that there is a lot of preparation time for using weapons before the attack. I hope it will combine swiftly with the joy of flight in this model. I will sure try it
When I was in Bosnia our 58Ds were doing a Hellfire gunnery range, and I do not know how it happened(not privy to it) but one of the Hellfires went wonky and went up and over the mountain that was the backstop for the target area and hit a house on the other side thankfully it didn't arm and it did punch a hole through the wall but didn't explode. Wasn't our best day in the Hearts and Minds campaign.
aaa if my pedals arrive in two days but the patch seems to be aimed for tomorrow! anyways super excited for the kiowa and thank you for the tutorial series ❤
great series of videos and they have really helped me with the Kiowa today on release. But for the life of me I can get everything set up - Hellfires and TRK but they just wont fire. Master switch is on and the ARM button on the co-pilot side is ARM - everything seems great outside of the actual firing of the hellfire but I cant for the life me work out what i am doing wrong :D
@@CasmoTV Sure did - watched your video a few times to make sure i wasnt missing anything and cant find the issue - I am sure its a me issue somewhere but old age etc is clearly causing me issues :D
Can you also have 2 stingers and 2 hellfires mounted? Would be nice to have some defence while also able to do offence and take out targets. I know the Gazelle was limited by design, i hope the OH-58D can have best of both worlds.
Man I wasn't all that excited about the Kiowa initially, which is why I haven't stayed in the loop on it's development. Now that I'm watching all of your current videos, I'm blown away! Damn, I can't wait to fly this thing in VR! I was wondering about the shutter when passing through ETL. Is that something that you always feel or is it barely noticeable or something you get use to and don't notice as much with time in aircraft? Not just this one. Just curious...Thanks for all you do!
@@CasmoTV lol. Well, it’s something to consider. I’ve seen some other videos of the DCS Kiowa shooting Hellfires in a hover and it looks like active pause is on. Sorta FC3 flight model-esque.
@TheRealOriginalDiegoM well I guess for me it’s something I don’t much care about. One I don’t work at PC so it’s not mine to fix but two, for me, it’s very pedantic and not a real issue worth fixing, atleast not in the short term.
@@TheRealOriginalDiegoM turning on AI autopilot switches the flight model to something akin the game flight model from DCS. It's not a pilot piloting the regular flight model like in case of George or Petrovich. I don't like it as well. I presume that if you shot the missile while not under the AI autopilot the heli would do as you say.
What is the reason for being unable to set all four missiles to the primary code? So you have to change the Pri/Alt for the last one if you want to lase it with the main code as well.
To give you another reason to fly Apache rather than Kiowa ;-) Want to set all missiles to primary code? No problem, I mean all 16 of them! I guess real Apache never carried 16 Hellfires just like Cosmo never carried 4 on Kiowa, but still...
I have flown and fired the KW Hellfire heavy. We did some missions where we had an advance scout move in close to the engagement area. Then 4 KWs with 4 Hellfires each would move into a Battle Position (BP) that was in a masked valley. We would fire a Hellfire every 4 seconds, all on the same laser code, and the forward scout would just designate each target in sequence until all 16 targets were destroyed. All done at night without any radio calls. So a single Apache can carry the same load, but the Apache couldn't be snuck into the AOR on two C-130s from over a thousand miles away.
Quick question, how are you controlling the MMS (12:55) and firing the laser from the pilot seat? I can't seem to find anything related to it in the Pilot keybind section
Did the real Kiowa hover also so.. ehhmm.. solid? There are no any shakes by the hovering. Even during the Hellfire launch. That looks a bit unrealistic ihmo.
@@CasmoTV I didn't mean that 😂 I just want to say that the heli hovers (in AI mode at least) too stable - if it would stay on the ground, not hang in air. In your othe video "Flying the OH-58D", Kiowa is wobbling whole time during the hovering. Here but not. And as you said in this video that the Hellfire has a pretty mighty thrust, I'd suppose it should influence the heli's hovering during the launch. No?

They go stupid sometimes.
This really is a mini scout Apache huh? No wonder you loved it so much, it looks like a right little workhorse.
One thing all Kiowa pilots hated was the grass coming up through the floorboards. True story.
I liked it. The smell took me back home.
Thanks Casmo for these excellent videos. I will definitely be a buyer.

Please give a tip how can you lase and fire missile at the same time as SP?Thx
Shouldn’t the external model have some “shutter” or yaw when the Hellfire is launched? Looks kind of strange it being static like that.

No

Can you buddy lase for another Kiowa?
Yes
What variant of the Hellfires are on the Kiowa? Like are they Kilo’s or Lima’s?
I have fired AGM-114A / C / F / K / K2 / M and N from the OH-58D.

Absolutely
