I would have given ANYTHING to have these tutorials around when I was flying these! Muddling through a sim with a stick buddy was miserable! Man that building was cold!
Reminds me of when I was learning the new route recon program while attached to the Combat Engineers, a very robust system with lots of options and settings, but also simple to use with common sense and thought put into it
Thanks for sharing, all very useful. And for a module which I didn't know anything about or even should I pick it up, especially as DCS already has my favourite helicopters the mighty UH-1H Heuy, the AH-64D Apache and Mil-24 Hind, I didn't need anything else and I couldn't see where the Kiowa sat amongst all these........ But luckly I did pick the Kiowa up and ooooh man, I can see why you Kiowa pilots love this thing, so much. Polychops version of the OH-58D is simply fantastic and a hard module to put down, once you're hooked. If polychops have given us just a fraction of what flying the real Kiowa was like. Then I can see why you Kiowa pilots justed love her,👏👏👏👏 👍
How about that eyecatcher at 11:30 lol. Roughneck would be a pretty good Transformer name for a Kiowa/robot! Thanks again for these vids, much appreciated.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy all of your videos, but this is where you shine. More Kiowa and more Apache videos mate. Maybe even some Huey content. Well done 👍
A data cartridge system would be nice. There is a 3rd party program called The Way that’s useful for picking points on a map and inputting them automatically into your system, especially on multiplayer servers that don’t tend to give you premade routes. Most aircraft with INS systems are supported. Hopefully the creator or someone else adds Kiowa support quickly.
Casmo, thanks a lot for your excellent tutorials! Bought the KW on Day 1 and enjoy it very much. Question regarding routes: do you have to press "Next WP" the whole flight after reaching each WP? I could not figure out if there is a way to follow the route with the WP´s changing automatically like in the, say, F/A-18.
Can’t wait. Already using the Apache to sneak around and practice buddy lazing for Phantoms. Between this and the Chinook I don’t think I’ll ever fly the F4 now
Great tutorials Casmo thank you very much for doing these for us. Could I just ask which map do you use for your grainy range videos. Keep up the great content sir 🫡 oh when using the mms looking at the Mfd screen there is all these lines on the screen which kind of spoils the res, is this normal and what you’d expect in the Kiowa. Thanks again 👍
What I'm curious about is when we will be able to do mission planning in the "mission planning" section before the mission or in the editor. I'd love to be able to have those battlefield graphics built before sitting in the aircraft.
@@CasmoTV I’ve been looking for the exact definition of what a control point is, and what it is used for. Is it like an RV point, a miscellaneous nav point, POI, or an IP, something like that?
Super quick and great info. One question...is there a big difference in power, when I forget to increase the RPM to get NR to 100%? Or does it have any other unpleasant consequences? Thank you.
So im used to using VORs to navigate in the huey. I tried to tune one in on the radio but i couldnt get it to work? Guessing thats not a thing military pilots use anymore or have i missed something?
Absolutly ready to dominate the servers with my twin dual shock heli set up lol...im cheap and im damn good with what i use lol. Improvised, adapted, overcame torque.
Casmo when putting in initial waypoints i see lat long is available (yes im one of those weirdos for lat long) can i just hit that and WP1 would still be put in? Im pretty sure it i could but just want to verify.
Ooh another Kiowa Vid!! With all these videos consecutively I feel like were getting closer to release. Any chance there will be a pre-order soon? Also, F**k you Mike! Team Casmo FTW!
You're always at your present position. The "route segment" between you (the PP) and the next selected fly-to waypoint will always be valid. There may not be a line drawn, but the fly-to waypoint carat will always point to the next waypoint.
See.. i was right. You are the official dude to do all the tutorials. Why deny it, be proud of it. Oh BTW, DCS does have a pretty good data cartridge system
So wait, does this mean its just going to drop or will it be an ER? I mean historically casmo only does these tutorials when modules are within a couple weeks of drop...
Anyone notice that Casmo seems just a little more passionate with these startup and function videos for the Kiowa?
nope :P
No. He seems exactly the same lol
I would have given ANYTHING to have these tutorials around when I was flying these! Muddling through a sim with a stick buddy was miserable! Man that building was cold!
lol true
We are so lucky to have you Casmo. What could be better than learning from the best!
Far from the best. Just happen to be the guy with the channel.
The best we got then! @CasmoTV
0.30 secs to 0.35 secs was the best (intentional?) troll of the persisitant complainers I've seen.
Thanks again Casmo. 1 week.
Very robust navigation system. Wasn’t expecting something so powerful. Very nice.

Last week, I was watching some of your old Kiowa videos from 3 years ago. Very exciting to know that it’s almost here.
It’s been 84 years…
Looking at the keypad and its location, it makes me appreciate BFT messages a lot more when we were messing around with yall 😂
This is years in the making, so stoked
Good to have the part explained that gets you around the AO...😊
I have been waiting for these videos the closer we get to launch thank you so much
Gawd, I love the KW soo much!

Coordinate converter is essentially a 3rd party dtc that works well.
Nice big screen. B&w doesn't bother me one bit. I like the 'rawness' of it compared to the Apoochie.
Excited.

No it should automatically go to the next point when you get within a set distance.

Great video! Looks like they have brought a lot of functionality.
Great tutorial Casmo!
If you havin' nav problems I feel bad for you son. I got 99 targets but premade routes, just one.

Read the video notes
@@CasmoTVWhat I get for not reading the video description. Doesn't help that mobile kind of hides it. Awesome, looking forward to it.
In the mission editor you can set 3 routes. See manual page 235-244 of the manual :)
Correct. This will be covered in a seperate video
@@CasmoTV I’ve been looking for the exact definition of what a control point is, and what it is used for. Is it like an RV point, a miscellaneous nav point, POI, or an IP, something like that?
@Ironwulf2000 it’s just another type of point you can use with the nav system. Normally used to create battlefield graphics
Hi, pls to record video with autorotation too, thanks!
Super quick and great info. One question...is there a big difference in power, when I forget to increase the RPM to get NR to 100%? Or does it have any other unpleasant consequences? Thank you.
No but you’re cheating yourself.
@@CasmoTV Understood. Thank You!
Heck yea!!! 🎉. Love the simple work. Is there a way to change the symbology to black v white?
Do you plan to open up "The Experience" level on your Patreon for the Kiowa? I would 100% buy one to learn some tactics.
Unlikely. My schedule is too crazy.
@@CasmoTV I hear you on that one
While on the move, does the left seater type in all that "new points", maybe, if someone is calling you to get to them?
So im used to using VORs to navigate in the huey. I tried to tune one in on the radio but i couldnt get it to work?
Guessing thats not a thing military pilots use anymore or have i missed something?
Man, it’s almost like this guy has a lot of seat time in the real thing, or something. 🤔
What map are you using for this? Great video, thanks.
Channel map
Can you remove the „jaw” part of the pilot’s helmet, like in early builds or there is just this one option now?
I think so yeah
@@CasmoTV confirmed, Ive just seen in other vid that there is a keybind for that
So, the F4E, Kola, Chinook, Afghanistan and now the Kiowa, shhh don't tell the missus!
Hey Casmo, I see you use a VKB stick. What springs can cams do you use? Thanks!
Honestly I don’t know. The ones it came with. They are pretty stiff. I don’t recommend for Kiowa but I’m too lazy to change
That sharpie crosshair on the windscreen is hilarious. Is that seriously the only aiming mechanism on these machines?
Absolutly ready to dominate the servers with my twin dual shock heli set up lol...im cheap and im damn good with what i use lol. Improvised, adapted, overcame torque.
Is that the Channel map? not a big WW2 guy but it looks like a beautiful place to fly helos in.
Yes and it is.
Actually PC have implemented the DTC features. Can be edited in a json file. I don’t really know what it looks like since it’s not released
Yes, I said that in the video description as well.
Casmo when putting in initial waypoints i see lat long is available (yes im one of those weirdos for lat long) can i just hit that and WP1 would still be put in? Im pretty sure it i could but just want to verify.
You can input information for points in either MGRS or LAT/LON. When switching between the two, the data will be converted.
@@Barundus thank you
how is the way to go back home?
Ooh another Kiowa Vid!! With all these videos consecutively I feel like were getting closer to release. Any chance there will be a pre-order soon?
Also, F**k you Mike! Team Casmo FTW!
Can you enter "PP" into the route so that it includes your present position as part of the route? i.e. PP, 1W, 2W
Honestly I don’t remember. I’ll have to check tomorrow in stream.
You're always at your present position. The "route segment" between you (the PP) and the next selected fly-to waypoint will always be valid. There may not be a line drawn, but the fly-to waypoint carat will always point to the next waypoint.
@@Barundus is the smart one. What he says.
@@Barundus I'm just thinking it'd be a quick and easy way to drop a waypoint at homeplate.
@86abaile you can just drop a target if you’re worried about that.
Is the hsd map brightness adjustable?
Yeah
Looks like the KW accepts DMM formatted LAT/LON? Is that correct?
Yeah
@@CasmoTV thanks for the quick response! I'll add it to the DMM list in Hound ;)
The data cartridge system? Is this the long promised ED cartridge system or is it a KIOWA only development?
Kiowa only apparently.
Is the LALT+LMB native in dcs or is it an add on?
Native as of a few updates ago. It's a fantastic QOL feature
So I want to get my first chopper for DCS. in your opinion get the Apache or wait for this?
This one is easier to learn.
See.. i was right. You are the official dude to do all the tutorials. Why deny it, be proud of it. Oh BTW, DCS does have a pretty good data cartridge system
Hmm no it doesn’t have a good data cartridge system lol unless something has changed in the last 3 days.
@@CasmoTV I mean since the viggen, there's a lot you can do to edit and manipulate with the system
If Kiowa was retired, then what replaced it?
Apaches sorta

That keyboard unit looks so impractical...
It wasn’t fun to use.
So wait, does this mean its just going to drop or will it be an ER? I mean historically casmo only does these tutorials when modules are within a couple weeks of drop...
yeah no EA on this and it will drop most likely next week since they said 2 weeks from last week and it is in a release window of late may early june.
That's what I figured. The f15 wasn't EA either solo that's rad
