Hi Dr. Murray! I currently see a local NUCCA practitioner and have seen a dramatic difference in my craniocervical instability symptoms. I have ligament damage due to a gymnastics injury and whiplash many years ago. Despite strength training as much as I can, I only hold my adjustments for 3 days to a week. Do you have any tips on holding? What do you do if a patient gets dramatic symptom relief, but doesn’t seem to hold the adjustment well? To note I’m also super careful in my movements and always rest and ice after the adjustment. Thank you so much!!

@@GraceMallory12 Hi Grace, I am happy you have gotten good symptomatic relief so far! For an average patient it typically takes 6 months for the upper cervical spine to stabilize and about a year to 18 months for the muscles to strengthen it properly. In your case it could easily take longer than that. So first of all just be patient with your body and give it the time it needs to heal. Ligaments can take 6 months up to 18 months to heal properly. There are some exercises that I do recommend doing daily. Check out our video titled "Atlas Stability Exercises" and feel free to follow along with them!
