I bought the 2000 originally in the hg. I didnt get to use it on the party boat I frequent. Sold it after just a few times not because there was anything wrong with it. I later (after buying about 140 slow pitch jigs) bought the new f custom series from Japan in 1500, 2000 & 3000 all paired with evergreen poseidon slow jerker of appropriate pe strengths. I recently added the OJ 4000 spooled with 500 yds of 90 lb test pe for tuna jigging when I want a star drag over a 2 spd for quicker hookset. Gotta love shimano.

I hope you get to go on other trips like that as well. Your enthusiasm is infectious and I am getting the motivation to go check out Los Buzos someday. I do more Inshore and freshwater (Peacock Bass) fishing but would probably try the Gomexus first before buying that big of a set-up. I do love Shimano though, I own 4 Terramar with Vanfords on them for my inshore and freshwater needs.

Those reels are great for offshore here in Texas. Slow pitch works awesome for snapper, grouper, even cobia, kings and tuna.

I bought a avet raptor sx, years ago and never got used. It costed 500+ new at the time and I waited until it came up cragslist and bought for 375. Was it worth it, yes for 375 but I didn’t use it enough to enjoy it. It was meant for flyline bait in the ocean and I live, where there’s only freshwater fish are located. You can use it for fresh fish too, but not in the same if tunas would be close your boat in the ocean.

I got 3 of these reels and have yet to catch a big fish larger than a pound off the coast of Southern California...not because there are no fish to catch but I suck at finding them :-). I'll try it again next season.

Here in asia, OJ is a staples for jigging reel. Unless you want spend more on Jigging master or SOM, which is not very neccesary

It’s a great reel! I wished I could use it more but our water isn’t deep enough. We have to go offshore for miles to reach some deeper water.

Hey mate, love your enthusiasm really great to watch! I use a lot of overheads in NZ and you can use them for bait fishing or a slow pitch jig called kaburas the ones that looks like squid with rubber skirts. Can do it in 5m of water so really shallow places. Even try going for bait fish on sabikis. You can feel when they hit on the way down unlike spinners so go out and let your imagination open up the opportunities for you! Keep it up mate!

If I was a multi millionaire $400 ok. But I'm retired, I cringe at anything over $70. I have a few good Penns 6/0, 114, 113 that I got second hand. Only way to go for me.

That's a nice reel! It looks quality. I'm pretty much a weekender for saltwater fishing so I probably would never buy one. I have used something like this but not sure what the brand was. I was on a charter.

30lbs only 220 yard? Your pe line is too thick for that lbs test broo... try YGK brand
