- Lyrics:
took my lover to the sea
drowned him
precious bride to be
bleeding heaven from the start
woe is rapture ripped apart
hey you're honest aren't you?
show me rapture torn apart
everybody's ridden with disease
but I bet you say "not me"
so honest aren't you?
you're so honest
aren't you so?
my aren't you
surely finest of the brigade?
always right...a portrait of dignity?
innocent and never suspectible?
wait...
you smell like shit, not the truth
full of device, not devotion
conscience came right up to you and then
you threw it back
you are the scum of the earth
you are the scum of the ocean
to you it's above as below
you smear your filth across the world

YOU SMEAR YOUR FILTH ACROSS THE WORLD
*single tear* It's so beautiful.
Funny, Prancer seems to be a fan favourite. I instantly connected much more with this song. Felt it more in the gut.
my fav on the album is "Magic That I held you Prisoner" (I love the whole album, no doubt, but this one is just the one), maybe because they use lots of transpositions and clean vocals, don't know, but it became my favorite after "One Of Us I A Killer" that is genius also to my mind and ear
When I Lost My Bet goes so fucking hard
This is one of my favorites. It’s the raw rage in “you smell like shit” that gets me.
“Understanding Decay” is up there on my list too.
Every time you think: "This song couldn't get any harder"... Surprise! It can. How is that even possible?!
go listen their song "room full of eyes" :D
Absolutely ferocious! Great band, definitely takes awhile to get into them but when you do, then your in for a hell of a treat! good stuff :)
Ferocious is a fine word my friend
That "doo-doot-doo" vocal part at 0:20 behind the guitars is the best thing about this song.
very pattonian moment
This whole album is one huge Patton moment
Vocal part?
I thought it's a trumpet
"You smell like shit, not the truth."Best Dillinger line ever?
The badass lyric, indeed. 🤘
This album is disgustingly good.
My favorite song on this album.
I remember when both DEP guitarists came to my berkeley summer clinic. They focused on polyrythms and odd time groupings. It was just really frustrating understanding what they were explaining. For me it was all alien talk! I only wish that I would have recorded it so I can watch it all over again and grasp one bit of their knowledge.
underrated dillinger song.
Still listening to this masterpiece in 2020..what an amazing song!
Today gave me a FB memory of DEP releasing isolated vocals to this track and here I am again in 2021.
i love this song only because it exemplifies someone i know in my life that this song describes so perfectly.
It doesn't get better than this
Dillinger escape plan have a lot of random titles that don't actually have much to do with the songs (for example chinese whispers, setting fire to sleeping giants, sunshine the werewolf, etc.)
There‘s so many songs and bands out there which are meant to be super damn brutal and violent and whatever else. But than there‘s this typical Dillinger song that perfectly transports pure fucking hatred in the most perfect possible way. I listened to this one uncountable times but each and every time I hit the play button I get goosebumps. Touché Dillinger. I will always love you.
best song of the album. Dillinger are fucking amazing.
hey, a band that plays heavy shit w/ 6 string guitars in e standard. that's refreshing to see.
it's something that grows on you, it took me awhile to get into this band. look up 43% burnt, its their best song. imo.
Another DEP masterpiece 😀
incredible as always. DEP have always amazed me. listened to this album several times today already
This song now has a whole new meaning to me today
This shit is SO SO SO underrated!
Lmao. They're the most successful mathcore band ever (next to Converge).
... Yes... True. And cool. Yet... how would that well known information relate to my comment on this particular song?
ghoawaynetcabo sry then, I thought you were talking about TDEP in general, not the song.
rzutr fehgtr That's ok. It's not like TDEP are not underrated in a global music industry perspective, but yes mainly this song.
It took me a LONG time to like Converge. It's interesting that you used them as an example. I actually heard two of their albums a few years ago, absolutely hated them, and one day got a part of Jane Doe stuck in my head, and had to find the song. From that moment on I really liked them.
Dillinger escape plan isn't an accessible band by any means, but I'm sure there's a few of their songs that you'd enjoy. Some are radically different from the rest.
1:05 MYYYYY R2! SHOW ME FINEST OF THE BRIGADE! MYYYY R2, ALWAYS RUNNING, A TORTURE OF FEET DECAY!
It's funny seeing the Sumerian kiddies' reactions to a band that's actually good.
Let's try and figure out which member of the band Greg was pissed at in this song.
I can't imagine! 🤷♀️😂🤣
It's terrifying when this song comes up on shuffle on your iPod late at night
Thiis is sick...You guys totes gained a fan today. Drums are soooo damn good!
Best song on the album.
what does the song means??
YES! I have been waiting for this album for SO LONG! And it is aweeesomme!
IDK what it is, but the way he sings "So honest" reminds me of "So Sincere"by Gentle Giant...
This is one of my favourite songs of all time, absolutely visceral and cruel
"you share our filth across the world" fucking true, not even officially "Heroes"
It‘s "you smear your filth across the world" ;)
sorry, yeah of course, smear. (just in case, i never voted for you know whom)
This reminds me a lot of the "Patton-Era". And thats a good thing!
That breakdown is full swing hammer-to-teeth brutal.
Best song of year for me
Amazing, DEP, never dissapointing!
Widower is a masterpiece.
1:18 - 1:47 Daaamn, always pumps me up
This music is not for everyone kid.
Definitely new to TDEP. Been an enormous Deftones fan since the beginning so discovered them that way. Really love this album. Any recommendations besides this album for a new fan or just start at the beginning? Thanks for the upload.
all of it. just dive in man. option paralysis is the closest to this, but everything else is pretty amazing in its own right. miss machine was my first dillinger experience, but i'd consider it their weakest effort.
I remember the first time I heard 43% Burnt. Been hooked ever since. Love this band!
Be sure to check out their other stuff do, these guys are wonderful!
I can understand that you find the beginning repetitive, but near the end it becomes more melodic and more appreciable for people who aren't into this style of music. If you want something more melodic and not as much "noise" you could always check out their song called Widower.
I love the Irony is a Dead Scene similarities. The way the vocals go with the melody in a very oddly-rhythmic fashion and the Mike Patton-esque vocal progressions that sound so eery. I hope you guys go a bit more in this direction.
Such a underrated album
Good damn this song jams
Great fucking album! One to listen from start to finish... Relentless!
Those backing vocals @0:20 remind me of Frank Zappa and the riff @1:29 sounds like an evil version of 'Back in Black'.
Never said it wasn't. It's an amazing piece of music.
It seems like you need to develop an ear for it. Have patience, and you will begin to discover how amazing and complex it is.
perfection..
My god, I just about forgotten how good this band really is 0_0
The ending to this song is the best DEP material since Sunshine. Holy fuck me.
1:27 …. BOOOOOOMMMMMM!! 🔥🔥
Thanks for the Response !
now i'm sure i can listen to all theyre songs without second thoughts !
THIS ALBUM FREAKING RULES!!!
Hear, hear!
the part at :20 and :40, holy shit
i want to listen to just that forever
The comma after Nazi is correct, it adds a pause. The their's was just a typo. *theirs.
Well, Dillinger has a very specific top-tier level of talent that nearly all can't achieve. If you're expecting that from your music... there are probably only a few artists that you actually listen to XD
At least this is better than capture the crown and asking Alexandria
I love the title, it's purposely ironic. Stalin and the Soviet Union didn't believe in heroes, and didn't reward or praise their troops for exemplary behavior. There were no heroes in the Soviet Union, and I think he's trying to say there are no heroes in real life, either. Or perhaps, the Soviet Union was a horrible nation, and a hero of said nation isn't a hero at all, because they represent the communist and totalitarian ideals of the Union. If you are a hero of something despicable, you yourself are despicable as well. Maybe the song is about someone so evil and vile that they're a hero for the scum and shit of society. Just my take on this amazing song.
Maybe your miserable existence somehow became possible, because of heroes of SU saved the world from Nazis, and keep on living your despicable.ignorant brainwashed misery, without spiting out shity "knowladge"
JTNugget - Humans must acknowledge and respect the truth, animals like you, free to shit in any comment section
@@voxevolution stalin killed 15 million people at the least. Stalin tolerated Hitler's regime before he turned on him, and it wasn't only the Soviets how crippled nazi germany. Talk about being brianwashed.
@@ibowonar141guitarist Ben Weinman in an interview substreammagazine.com/2014/05/interview-the-dillinger-escape-plans-ben-weinman-on-codependency-and-cultural-depression/ - told that Greg Puciato wrote that song probably about him. Stalin and "his believes in heroes" are just BRAINWASHED imaginations of Mezmer and alike.
And if You want to know who really tolerates Hitler, read about Munich agreement.Stalin didn't "turn on him".Hitler attacked SU in 1941.I am not going to educate You here.If You are able to hit keys, probably You should be able to educate Yourself.
Absolute fuckin insanity has never felt so good
possibility. a lot of bands do that
Good song.
you must not know what math rock is. i see what your saying and basically is sums to this, " i have no idea about creative chaos that is the dillinger escape plan."
1:02 reminds me of one song on Crank the movie with Jason Statham
0:21 holy shit! Sounds like something that would've fit on Irony is a Dead Scene. Fucking excellent.
Anyway, I'm not jealous of your supposedly perfect grammar, I just felt like you were being antagonistic for no reason. Do you even know if that other guy was a native English speaker?
I'll just end this now so no one ends up making a comment adventure post down the line.
1:50 reminds me of the Halloween theme song for some reason.
Ya I love it
All the pierce the veil scene kids hating
Goodd
Apparently you haven't listened to the song The Need For REPETITION by BTBAM. Try again.
This song is a fucking BEAST
What is the lyrics about? What is the message? Thanks.
The message anti-satanic, satanists (elitists in every field in this world are satanic) use knowledge of the hermetic principles to hide the truth about nature and who we really are from us to control us. They do this to us because they believe us unworthy of the truth, only worthy of slavery:
II. THE PRINCIPLE OF CORRESPONDENCE.
"As above, so below; as below so above."
It's like using geometry to solve problems where you only know a certain part of the equation, except a satanist will deny you the knowledge to solve the problem by filling your mind with false equations instead.
Pizza and Sacred Geometry and here I thought this song was about Putin!
@@pizzaandsacredgeometry2872 I think it can also be interpreted as a criticism to Stalin's political agenda
He immediately took control after lenins death, he killed (via agents) Trotsky and the events during the 5YP (five year plan of industrialisation of the Soviet Union, which made a huge profit to the state but people kept being hungry or exiled when they didnt manage to achieve the goals of the Industrial Soviet Union) may be referenced by its "honesty" and "dignity" as the lyrics suggest. He was also known as THE HERO OF THE SOVIET UNION
Those "facts" I wrote may be inaccurate, I just try to add a plus meaning to the lyrics, if there is one ofc.
Listen to Option Paralysis first. :P
he actually means the fanboys, not the bands
Hail the soviet!
that garbage dad, and it's cool 😂
1:27 is epic
Actually you're right, I don't. But I don't need to play an instrument to appreciate good music and give my opinion on things I don't like.
Right. But that just happens to be a major reason why you don't understand this type of music, and wouldn't be able to appreciate it in the same way many other listeners do. It's okay, it's your opinion, but there's a reason for that.
That would be the case if this were a Faith No More or Mr. Bungle song.
Sumerian Rec. should've signed The Contortionist instead of THM.
And the "new" Faceless is one of the greatest band Sumerian signed.
Sick- in a good way
i was wondering what the message of the song is, i like it very much, but i lived in Soviet the last years of it's existence, and am not sure if its a hate message kinda thing, not that i'm concerned just wondering :)
Ive tried to like these guys. I just cant for some reason. Though im not an idiot and im not gonna come in here and call it shit like some people. Not all things are for everyone.
Cloudkicker
Doesn’t sound like anything Ben has done.
Fucking miss these guys
Oh, I see fwat ya did thurr ;)
I think all these deathcore kids should listen to 43% Burnt and see what real hardcore sounds like. You know, when "hardcore" music was actually hardcore.
Goddamn.
hmmmm, and why are you making fun of that guy again?
Look at all those deathcore kids, trying to tell us that one of the best bands on the earth is 'shitty'.
That's how I felt first. Try songs like Farewell, Mona Lisa, Gold teeth on a bum or One of us is the killer.
They're very basic, but still very catchy.
Eh? Sumerian actually has a few very good artists now... The Faceless, Animals as Leaders, Structures, Periphery, Stick to Your Guns, and now, of course, Dillinger come to mind.
NOTE: the tone of this reply comment is supposed to be conversational, not argumentative.
No my logic isn't flawed, his logic is flawed.
THAT BREAKDOWN AAAAHHHHHHHHAAAA FUUUUCKK
