We have a ng insertion checkoff coming up and they're only giving us 2 hours of lab for the entire class to practice before the checkoff. So glad RUclips exists to see videos because I feel like the class is so fast paced that it's like we're on our own.
Always helpful thank you :) Would love to see some examples of explaining procedures to patients/parents (eg. why, procedure, complications, alternatives/answering common questions).
@@geekymedics Could you describe the reason? I have to write about the nasogastric tube and it includes what I asked as a question. That's why I asked because I couldn't find anything about it online. Thanks for your response!
To ensure its in the right place (the stomach). The stomach is acidic. So, if you get an acidic pH range, you can be sure the tubing is in the stomach.

Nursing school don't mess around.
How did it go? Are you a dr now?
You didn’t have open lab? I just failed my NG test off lol
Same
I've got a two hour class later today and just found out only half of it is for the tube 💀💀
nice video. I think you have to assess the nares from trauma before insertion by asking the patient
Never happens
Fantastic video. Right to the point.

Thank you for this. Can you advise which guidelines the advice of the NEX+5cm comes from?
when, if at all do you remove the metal wiring inside?
After you’ve confirmed placement with CXR
was asking myself this same q
Is that what provides stiffness for the tube to go down the throat? I'm blind so I'm missing out on a lot of information in this video 😞
@blindbrad4719 Yes, the metal/guide wire provides the stiffness and enables the tube to go in easily.
Our teacher says...head should be in flexion....but here I cannot see any description regarding it
Thanks it's great really it helped me alot.
Thankyou so much.
Love to you from Pakistan
Thank u sooooo much sir for your kind information.
Hi.... I wondering how if the patient has disability to swallow??? It is possible to take sip water??? I really someone will explain to me...😊😊😊
Thank you very much
What are the asepsis/antisepsis rules that must be observed during the activity when inserting a nasogastric tube?
This is not an aseptic procedure
@@geekymedics Could you describe the reason? I have to write about the nasogastric tube and it includes what I asked as a question. That's why I asked because I couldn't find anything about it online. Thanks for your response!
The nose, mouth and gut are not sterile. So the process does not need to be. Unlike a urine catheter insertion, the blander is a sterile environment.
Anyone reading this.. can anyone tell me what is the effect if the tube inserted to long inside the gaster?
It becomes a nasoduodenal or nasojejunal tube instead of a nasogastric tube
wow!!!! thank you 😊
Can I instill lidocaine before insertion of the tube?
Lidocaine is a topical analgesic. No you can’t. Just regular lube like ky jelly
We use lidocaine spray on the back of the throat which is where most patients complain of pain.
thanks
Thank you
Thank you so much, i need your video for doing my task :D
why do we check the pH after insertion NGT? Anyone can explain me?
