did not you have to connect the urine bag first to the catheter first other wise there will be spilage of urine upon insertion of catheter into bladder?
Urine starts flowing when you insert the catheter and it reaches the bladder, pushing it all the way in is a precautionary measure. Pulling it out (after you've filled the balloon) confirms it is secured and won't slip out. =)
Hi.. is it advisable to connect the other end to the bag and then insert in to the penis..? My friend who works in ICU says so.. otherwise the second the catheter enters the bladder the flow might make the field messy!
No, it is not necessary anymore, because by doing this you cannot collapse it back into its previous position and the ridges when passed through the ureter increase risk of infection. Manufacturers have also agreed it is unnecessary.
It depends on the kits instructions. Some don't recommend doing this because the balloon is meant to be blown once. If tested before it could cause trauma. As I said you should always follow the kits instructions.
thank you for the great work , can we also remove the catheter from its wrap, and put it in the sterile tray ,keeping everything sterile along all this? it will be easier but is it accepted according to NICE guide lines or GMC ?
+W Heaven Check with your medical school or local hospital trust. This might be acceptable in certain locations, it depends on local policy. By exposing the entire catheter immediately you increase the chance of contaminating it.
+W Heaven for Plab 2 I am being taught that the catheter will be open, ourt packaging would be removed already & would be in the sterile area all u need to do is to take the catheter out from the the inner packaging using non touch technique, making it ready for insertion. Dont let it touch anything before insertion
Muhammad Berki thank you very much ,i've had it already in my exam and thank God could insert it without removing the wrapper ,i passed plab2 alhamdulellah
@@geekymedics I tried this method on real patient but its so sliperry its so difficult to hold grip while pulling back the wrapper and it also time consuming.. do you have any tips for doing it smoothly??
Never. It's a big no no. Coz the salt in NS crystallizes thus making it difficult to deflate once we have to remove em. If such things happen a urologist is required to remove em
@@dreamcatcher2523I'm not trying to be a jerk or something, but apparently there is no any difference between sterile water and normal saline usage on deflation failure based on this research Hui J, Ng CF, Chan LW, Chan PS. These are great! My only suggestion is to go through possible indications and complications as this may be required in OSCEs.
Agree

Do we really have to insert fully the catheter and pull back til resistance is met? Or could we stop once you see urine is draining while inserting

If you are using KY jel, what ratio are you supposed to mix between the local anesthesia and the jel?
Why was the urethral meatus and surrounding area sterilized with normal saline rather than Povidone-iodine (PVP-I)?
It depends on your hospital or home policy
Thanks sir for the presentation but I have the question is it necessary we start with local anaesthetic into urethra before we keep catheta
If you don’t want it to hurt like hell for the patient then yeah.

Well this is right, otherwise it would be a mess
This channel is amazing!
What a beautiful work
you should test the balloon for any tears or nicks before you insert the catheter
That's right

Replace Foreskin??
If you're uncircumcised and you don't put the foreskin back in place it can cause a skin rash called balanitis.
Also it greatly reduces the risk of paraphimosis
