You can press the system "button" and the blank "button" in the bottom middle of the thermostat at the same time for about 5 seconds. It will get you in the area that you can reset the thermostat. Surges can cause that. I've had to do it a few times.

I know you have alot on your plate already. I started with a new refrigeration company. Anyway im noticing alot of companies in NYC use ID/QR codes to identify units. I say this because it save alot 9f time doing store runs by being able to know the parts needed for units. So basically the customer can scan the unit that needs service and you can pull unit the units history. Ie what filter needed for a particular unit. You can also look up in our market place allot the other parts for the particular unit from parts town.

When I was "green" and put on a van I felt the same way. Don't let the terror cripple you. Have confidence in yourself, lack of confidence carries an odor that can be smelled by everyone. I used the fear as motivation to drive me to read manuals, re-read textbook info I was iffy on and asked questions of senior techs to try to prepare myself so I'd, hopefully, not make an ass of myself. It paid dividends. You can never be too knowledgeable but there's no substitute for experience.

Once your done with your piece of equipment you always ask is there anything else that is giving you a problem. 9/10 they will ask you to look at something even if it isn’t something you work on just talking to them about it and listening and directing them to the correct vendor if you can not help. The other day i replaced a Tjernlund power vent motor. After replacing it and testing. I found the blower wheel to be plugged up. The blower wheel pulley is wobbly. The blower motor bearings are beginning to fail. The gas valve is beginning to fail. It would intermittently not release the pilot gas, had to tap on it a few times to get it to open. The main valve would go out, come back on, go out again and come back on, and stay on. It has an old WR ignition module. If i would of just performed the repair and tested to see if it came on and bounced.....i would of missed all the other things going on. It is a 40 year old Westinghouse furnace. Has a belt driven blower. Big picture lets the customer know and it covers your butt. I always look at the whole picture. You never know what else can and will fail if you don't look.

They are paying the same electric bill regardless of the airflow or efficiency they are getting so they might as well get the most for their money.

It’s usually best to start out in installs, it’s like boot camp for HVAC. It will be hard and you’ll be sore and destroyed at the end of the best of days, but once you move on from that and in to service work you’ll pretty pretty well conditioned (no pun intended). Service work isn’t nearly as draining and back breaking.

I remember on another video he said something about the condensate had to drain directly into the usual wastewater system due to certain California codes. Not so.. My grandfather's house, which stood vacant for some time after his passing, had an older thermostat with mechanical contacts. The heat was kept on at a minimal level to keep pipes from freezing. I went over to check on the house after a few days of not being there and found the contacts had welded themselves and the old gravity furnace had heated the house to over 130 degrees. No idea how hot it actually got as the liquid-filled thermometer on the stat had literally exploded and another dial type was maxed out at 130. One wall was so hot you could barely lay a hand on it. A pad of paper that was on the floor a couple of feet from the heat grate had curled itself into a ball. Scary stuff. If I'd skipped going over there, I'm sure it wouldn't be standing. A 'Sensaphone' monitoring system was temporarily installed soon after.

@@greendryerlint The furnace high limit switch was what the furnace was cycling on likely. Discharge temps probably around 180* + or - but if the high limit failed that could have turned out different. Ive seen failures of all types, those touch screen Honeywell thermostats have actual been quite reliable from what I have seen. Eons ago I had an old snap action thermostat (heat only) that customer complained wouldn't stop heating. They had old barn wood walls and had taken steel wool to smooth the walls out, needless to say the magnet in the snap action was a big metal fur ball when I opened it up shorting out the contacts. I've seen a number of the original electronic Honeywell 7300 commercial thermostats that were heating and cooling simultaneously and the "newer" (from early 2000's) 7300 that had sub base pins that shoved out the back side if you pushed the thermostat onto the sub base without making sure the pins were perfectly aligned.

@@mrbyamile6973 This was a coal gravity furnace that was converted to gas. It had no high limit and no blower. It did have a pilot safety/lockout. The limiting factor was the sheer flame resistance of the giant cast iron furnace and the plaster walls of the hosue, plus the duct was probably lined with asbestos. That and the capacity of the burner. The contacts were welded--I had to pry them apart. The thermostat was replaced with a simple Honeywell 'round' t-stat with a mercury switch.
