bunch of cry babies ;) last few kitchens I worked in didn't have A/C, but they did have screen door and a window, not that it did much good in high 90F humid days.
also I'd say to them, try working on the roof, attic or better yet boiler room, blast furnaces etc. lol nothing like 98% humidity, with 150F+ temperature, no air flow and massive amount of radiant heat.
as you step in, you instantly soak your clothes with sweat and can wring them out after 5 minutes, your boots will fill up and you start sloshing around, now add to that fiberglass insulation. some people just have no clue ;)

Thanks for showing MQ and setup even though we have seen it it is always good to see something like "whoops forgot to input sysinfo" which happened to me the other day. Seems redundant but I think showing the probes and gauges quickly and quick walk through of MQ can help us to see the issues you're chasing on screen.

A simple cheep PM an in the end?? It cost them a new compressor .. an I can not feel sorry for their stupidity .. I understand money don't grow on trees but when we're talking a weak cap? An they refuse to spend a few bucks?0.0? I would much rather change out a 2 minutes cap than hours for a compressor. But Thanks for another great video!!.

  • @throttlebottle5906

if capacitor is bad on a fan motor, they usually either creep real slowly or vibrate and will have resistance to being turned with power on (if not overheated and thermal overload open).
I know you'll never be able to hear or feel the humming when cold and locked up due to other vibration

"The Dining Room Is Too Hot." Or, as I like to call it, the Last Two Weeks Of Customer And Employee Complaints. The digital clock with thermometer has been taken off the wall so I can no longer take photos of it being over 90F (50s-60s outdoors); a new analog clock (with Roman numerals) has been installed in its place, and 3/4 of my coworkers can't read an analog clock. My penance for complaining about insufferable temperatures is that I now have to translate what the clock says for everyone that can't tell time.
On hotter days, we've taken to opening up the roof hatch, which is helpful but only when standing directly beneath the ladder (oh, the top part of the ladder is coming loose from the wall, who would've guessed that sheet rock screws wouldn't hold an aluminum ladder to aluminum framing?). Wednesday night I ventured up onto the roof to find our dual-zone system is ONE York RTU. We've been told ONE of the units doesn't work, but the other one does - but again, there's only one, I guess the HVAC "tech" is calling the Hoshizaki ice machine equipment our 2nd RTU?
I stepped over to it, both condenser fan motors were off and spun freely by hand, the whole unit was "dead" - not a sound coming from it at all. I considered poking my nose under the covers to look around, but decided it was above my pay grade and walked away. Let me tell you, it was REALLY tempting to look inside and see if there were any hack jobs done to it. I thought they had fixed the squealing indoor blower, but in all actuality, the indoor blower is OFF and the only air circulation we have is from the exhaust fans and the negative pressure sucking in air through the front door. The doors are near-impossible to open and the air blowing through it is so loud that you have to shout to speak to anyone in the vestibule. We still can't get the wall-mounted temperature sensors to read anywhere near accurate (usually off by 20 degrees, or 25 degrees depending on which two resistance values the Honeywell stat offers as options).
All of this crap is not that big a deal though anymore, I've applied for a job elsewhere and will be leaving as soon as I get a start date. And believe me when I tell you, the issues with the HVAC system aren't even the major reasons for leaving.

Why do they put 2 pole contactors in a coworker of mine believes the hot leg going to the compressor 24/7 acts as a crank case heater. That doesn't really make sense to me I think its because its a cheaper way of doing the same thing. Thoughts?

it could have been the meter you used, some of them are grossly effected by NOT removing all wiring from the capacitors. often more so if the "red" test lead is connected to the side with wire still attached.
it can end up reading the capacitive reactance of the wiring, other motors, through the capacitor body to the cabinet of unit and more.
it gets highly critical on small values in electronics, just touching and holding or being near the lead wires can majorly skew results when in the low picofarad. yeah it's far less critical once you hit things measure in microfarad, but still best to always fully isolate the cap.

    • @mrgreen9086

@@throttlebottle5906 that's a great explanation, but that's also what I did I completely removed the capacitor and used a flathead screwdriver to release the charge Not the proper way to do it sure, but regardless it was still reading 15 muf

If the unit is not running efficiently it become a financial economy issue. Poor performing unit might cost $100 extra per month in utility cost. Replacing plenum or duct work might cost $2000 or more. Restaurant figures they can run the unit for 20 months or more before it actually starts "costing" them. Or, you can look at it as ROI (Return On Investment).

    • @etherealrose2139

Gas is efficient and cheap. In California, especially so, compared to electric. It's not needed often and they already have tons of gas being piped in for the cooking anyways, adding a small line to the roof is a no brainer during construction.

    • @dashcamandy2242

@@etherealrose2139 Excellent points. Also, if all the RTUs had electric heat and Cali had a cold snap, they'd suffer similar to the way Texas suffered - Cali's power grid isn't exactly known for its reliability (PG&E, I'm calling you out) and massive demand like that would certainly cause issues!
Natural gas is probably the cleanest-burning and most-efficient fossil fuel at our disposal right now.
As far as SMOG goes, that's a perfect-storm result of massive amounts of traffic, weather patterns, and topography.
When it comes to their SMUG problem, well, that's a whole other story for another forum. lol
