- I've failed many times at landscape photography and in this video, I'll share a few ways to fail and what to do about it. I do this while photographing the beautiful Kynance Cove in south Cornwall, England.

The course is beyond worth it! I love it
@@louisburley1597 awww thank you so much, Louis! Very happy to hear that 🤩
This course will certainly be one of the best investments you can make towards improving your photography editing, hopefully you won’t have missed out on the discount, but if you have, then buy it anyway - you won’t regret it.
“Good. Go out and fail again.” Ser Davos Seaworth
A touch choice, but the blue hour shot is my favorite, with the golden hour a close second.
Between those three images of the coastal rocks, I like the blue hour shoot the best. But they're all worthy of anyone's portfolio.
The three photos have their own vibe and characteristics, and they all look great. If I have to choose, I would choose the "late morning photo", because of how the sunlight seems to peak through the rocks, which seems like an inspiration to start a new day. Well, at least that how I feel about it 🙂.
Golden hour for me Mads. I used to swim there 60 years ago. It hasn't changed.
Loved this Mads... So interesting to see that shot from the cliff in different light. Also - my tripod looked like it was close to going over the edge...
I am sorry for laughing mate, it's only because I know that pain oh too well... Didn't stop you getting great shots!
Haha! It's all great fun! :D
Fails . . . Common as all get out. And important. Love the golden hour shot. Thanks for sharing.
Golden hour photo is what I like the most, though others are also beautiful 😍
We were actually in the taxi to the airport recently when my wife casually mentioned that there was another rucksack still in the kitchen...Yep. All my camera gear. Close call.....Phew! Thanks for another great video. It's not about the gear.....But it does help!
Your backup camera is my main camera! Glad to see you could make amazing images with it! Inspiring!
Late morning definitely ! Beautiful!
Thanks for another great video, Mads. Your photos are outstanding and inspiring. It’s great to see how you work with these scenes on location.
Late morning photo! I love the long shadows. Beautiful
Loved the images of the waves and that final image Mads, looked like you had an enjoyable day. No harm in failing as that is what makes us better in the long run as Nigel said
Loved your wave photos and the color in the wave's curl.
the wave photo's are great too!!
These are my favorites videos - reminds us that even the pros make mistakes, get silly, and have fun! Very inspiring!
Very nice video, Mads! Always interesting to hear your thought process behind your compositions. And you are truly a master of editing!
Thank you for having this video on how to fail and what to watch out for, the one time that I failed on my trip. I had a marginal camera and great scenery. I wish I would’ve known what I know now about photography.
Outstanding video. Such awesome tips. Golden Hour was my favorite.
Hi Mads, I really like the blue hour photo. It's all about the sea, Mads, and the colour, and the vitality. I love to see the sea full of life; it makes me feel alive. Your close-up of a wave breaking was beautiful. I am still enjoying your Photoshop course and once I retire tomorrow, I will be able to spend more time to study and hopefully gain more of an understanding. I am a slow learner and I go over the same materials again and again until I understand. It's a good course, Mads.
You ARE NOT a regular landscape photographer. You are a GIFTED Landscape Photography ARTIST! I swear that I shed tears every time you display an image in your videos. WELL WELL DONE Mads!
Thank you for such a kind comment! I am happy to hear I move you with my photos 🙏
Thanks for this video, some good reminders. As for the images, my favorite is the blue hour shot…love the colors…
The late morning photo was by far my favorite! The composition is gorgeous, and I think that light in particular suits it the best. Serene!
"Snow" - we haven't had any decent snow here in York, North Yorkshire for a few years now. A pity as it's my favourite time for landscape photography!
Brilliant video. Great images.
Very enjoyable video Mads. Love seeing other photographers working in the area I live. Great to meet you in person while you were down here.
Fantastic advice. Always enjoy your photographs, and would say the late morning (the third) is my favorite. Really enjoy the colors and feel of the image. Well done...
All three are great!
Always amazed by your composition and editing skills. GReat job as usual, sir.
It's quite weird seeing you guys in my back yard. Looking forward to seeing where else you went in Cornwall. Obviously my shot of my other half doing a Sophie on that ridge at Kynance Cove under an orange sunset in January didn't find its way into your research Mads. She liked it so much that we have it on the living room wall! I liked the late morning shot best, partly because of the light, but also because the tide was slightly higher and the number of rock distractions fewer. Can't believe you left your camera in the car. We've all forgotten stuff, but the camera itself? My that is impressive 😂
Mads, all the shots were good, but I think the 3rd one is the one I prefer. Also the shot with you on the ridge is superb!
Really beautiful photos!
Darn, you sure are on a roll with awesome photos! Thanks for sharing!!!
Stunning wave shots Mads. And cannot decide between the three photos they are all equally great 👍
Amazing images, that first wave photo was wow. 24MP, more often than not, is more than enough for great photos! Make mistakes, learn, get better, repeat! 😎
Excellent as ever, Mads.
Yes we have to be pushed out of our comfort zone it helps us grow and become more aware learning to improvise…stay blessed …
Great video, Mads. The photos you shared are awesome, especially since you had to “settle” for using your backup camera. Of the 3 photos of the one scene, I like the blue hour shot the best.
Love the golden hour shot Mads!!
I favor the 3rd later morning shot. Gorgeous location and light.
three of my most absolute favourite photographers in one video - brilliant! Such a wonderful video and I have to say that failing to bring your main camera is not a failure at all because for a lot of us we only use 24 megapixel cameras and love the images from them, and when you do a pano then your megapixel count goes up anyway! But I totally agree that failure and knowing that we all do fail that we will be better because of it. Thank you for this - take care and be safe out there....
You three make a good team 😀 Loved the luminescence in those waves.
I love the waves Shot , Really awesome bro 🎉
My friends husband had his ashes scattered at Kynance Cove on the small grass covered 'island' in your first photo. A lovely place
Gorgeous location 🌊
Great!
Of course, what you did there is prove without question that the equipment matters very little. As long as you have a modern (21st century) camera and a reasonably good lens, the most vital component is YOU!
Another enjoyable, informative video Mads. I like the blue hour shot best of the three. The wave shots were beautiful, especially the second one. I also really liked the photo of the waves with James in the foreground. A very simple, yet powerful image! It was sad to see at the 12:40 mark a plastic bottle lying among the stones on the shore. Since we all love the beautiful areas where we photograph, I'm sure we've all picked up our share of garbage. Maybe there's a future video in there somewhere about respect and ethics for the land. Thanks for another beautiful video Mads!
Love the photos of tge waves specially the one that you crop for the wave, for me you have to much sky, 20 meg. Is plenty enjoy and stay safe...
Some great images from that location mate, really liked the early morning blue hour shot and the composit image of you in the foreground , that worked really well 👍. It's a difficult area to shoot, I visited , a couple of years ago, I even remembered my camera, just as well as that carpark is a little distance away and I seem to remember trying to pay the car park charges was a pain as it had to be done via mobile and I could only get a signal in a very specific spot ! Enjoyed the vlog mate 👍 👌
Think most of us have mastered failure’s at some point, although I still do practice it.
Great location Mads, luckily for us you carry two cameras.
Stay safe 🇦🇺
Thanks, MADS. You take great photographs regardless of the gear! I still need to make time to watch the “movie”. Happy Holidays.
Hi Mads, definitely the blue hour photo!
Wow, three beautiful photos to choose from. Making the decision hard for me, but I think I like the Golden Hour photo. Wish I (and my family) could move to England for a year just for me to photograph this wonderful landscape. If only I'd discovered my passion for photography when I travelled to the UK, Asia & the Middle East in my 20s & 30s. Darn.
Golden hour photo is really pretty!
Blue hour just edged it for me and the wave shot was superb 👌🌊
Like always an amazing video !!! My favorite @ 12:15 is the Blue hour shot, but i like the light on the rocks in the sunrise shot and the light strikes in the last one ;). Also amazing wave images !!!! Your picture @ 16:04 remind me of the photo you took in the Faroes. SUPER content Mads !!!!
Gold one is beautiful 😍
I was consistently forgetting things! I always make a list and tick it off now! There's loads to think about with multiple camera setups! I've just started vlogging myself (just completed my 2nd vlog) i'd appreciate anybody looking over my work and critiquing so I can use it to improve! Photos 2 and 7 for me the light on the wave in 7 is mind-blowing fantastic work as always mads!
Thanks for the encouragement in using a 24mp camera. My budget doesn't allow to upgrade from my Canon t6i 24mp...but I know that I can get some amazing pics with it...I know there is a post processing factor in the photos...thanks again for the great VLOG
For me the golden hour photo is heads and shoulders better than the rest.
I am so envious of your skills (again).
These were beautiful photos, Mads. You made the most out of your gear! One suggestion for us, learners, is to show the settings that were used in your photos. For example, I believe that you used a 2 or 3 sec exposure for your 3rd photo of the cove "thingy" between the isles. Perhaps, you needed to use a 3-stop filter to allow you to do that. Thank you for your videos, and I did jump into your Photoshop editing course. I also found your Milky Way course very helpful...
Beautiful photos you took there! This video is soo relatable 😅 I just came back from a one week vacation in Gran Canaria where I took a lot of photos and when I started to edit them I realized that the resolution was not 24MP as expected from the Z6 but only around 12MP. Turns out the RAW file size was set to medium and not large.... Not sure how and when I changed this setting but yeah, you never stop learning from your mistakes and luckily the images are still good enough. Hopefully I still can print one or two of them.
late morning is my fav
Nice work sir❤
Wow!
Secret lesson for this video “It’s not the gear, It’s the photographer that makes great images”.✌🏻😁
For a video about failing you sure got some epic shots!
Blue hour photo is my favorite!
Not a bad back-up camera!😊
There is nothing like a challenge early in the morning. I have been out along way from home the find my SD card still at home in my computer, a backup worked.
I can feel your pain I left my camera to do a pre weeding shoot an hour away! And had to go back home to be prepared for the WEDDING SHOOT…..NOTHING CAN DESCRIBE THAT!
Mads, out of the three, the golden hour shot for me
The blue hour photo was my choice. I guess if you stood there all day, you could get both sunrise or sunset, or just mix them up to confuse everyone.l 😜 Cheers! 🥂
The blue photo I like the best
Congrats to your new A7R V. As long as LR does not support the RAW files it's not a fail to leave the camera in the car 😉 I'm curious how you will like it. Always a pleasure watching your videos!
Which of the 3 do I like the most? My answer is keep forgetting your camera because all 3 images are superb!
All the pics were nice but I did like the golden hour the best. Nice video your "failure " wasn't too bad.
12:18- i most like the third one, because of shadows, and also because of cleaner scene (cleaner sky, sea etc).
Great video…thanks. It would be very helpful if you include your camera settings when you show your photos.
Those shots at 14 min O_O wow!!!
Great New Video Mads.
But the Sony A7C is also a great Cam. But the Workflow is different.
Wow
Excellent - most”epic” failure ever 😂. Which photo: early morning combined with the tide levels of the late morning 💪👍☑️
Great work as usual Mads. Who needs 60MP?
Golden hour is my favorite.
ONLY a 24MG camera?! Please don't forget the "poor" hobby photographers in your audience that use a 24MG camera like the Nikon D750. More than enough size for those printing images up to 11x17. And with Gigapixel and LR Enhance, who needs anything more from a camera body? For many of us, it's a hobby and 24MG is more than ample for the sizes we print. But you never know what Santa might put under the tree ... Thanks for presenting wonderful vids week after week and best wishes for an amazing Christmas holiday season!
Nice ! At least you have a backup camera. 24MP is mostly enough. Can't crop that much in post compared to 60MP but the sensor is probably the same size so 24MP has bigger pixels than 60MP and might have better dynamic range therefore. Forgetting the SD card or battery would be a complete fail...
from the 3, i like the blue hour photo the most...
back up camera or not, the photo's are great!!
Beautiful compositions, and informative, as always. How do you like the 16-35mm f/4 PZ G vs the 16-35 f/2.8 GM?
Great video! How is that new tripod working in the wind?
late morning to my surprise
A 24 megapixel camera is not only good, it’s good enough!
For the one you're unhappy with, I like a tighter framing a lot better. Basically removing the bottom half. And that would emphasise what immediately attracted me when I first saw this scene. Then again, maybe it's just me. But I know I'd be VERY happy to have made that one.
14:00- a masterpiece. 👍
Mads, I am a natural at failing at landscape photography, just keep making mistakes without any coaching…🤣
