@@RodMurray777 Yes. The 2022 models called the 83 (only at Best Buy) and 85 (sold everywhere) are IPS. After seeing the TERRIBLE Viewing Angles of all the VA Panels with Mini-LEDs in 2022, I realized the IPS panels for TV sets were far superior to the VA panels, just as they are with computer monitors. @PcGamingForFun I ended up with a QN95B model and have had a great experience playing games on both PS5 and XBox Series X consoles. You should feel comfortable choosing either the 90B or 95B if game play is important to you. MARCH is fast approaching and these sets will be on sale soon, that will be the time to grab one.
I have viewed several your reviews and found them most helpful - except they do not appear to specifically address the quality of subtitles or sub text. We watch a lot of subtitled movies ( in a low light room) and - like us - I suspect the quality of the text displayed will be a key factor for many others. In particular those with limited hearing, that need audio described sub text, would also benefit from a specific test on the subtext/subtitles. I do note that your visual test includes some sub text but you do not seem to comment on it, and its very hard to ascertain the quality oneself while viewing your RUclips video from a small PC screen, smart phone or tablet.
I agree. Screens should offer you the ability to move the subtitles, change size and so forth. Also, a CC button on the remote would be nice. Add in high quality speech reproduction.
It amazes me that a little lightening up of the black bars is such a big deal to many, When I watch a movie I'm watching the movie not the black bars. I've got a qned85 and have never noticed a problem but I will admit after watching this video and reading the comments I can see a little light gray in the bars in some scenes. But for the most part the bars are black. I wouldn't let that keep me from buying the tv because it's a great set. The blacks in the scenes are really good and the colors are vibrant. I would buy it again.
Wow - you just skipped demonstrating all 4 TV's showcasing DolbyVision content!! Even though the Samsung's don't support it, then still show whatever can be seen on the screen with the same movie & same scene. Would be interesting...
At 7:15, when we take a freeze frame, we can clearly see that the televisions are not synchronous, they are not on the same frame. in particular the hands which this is on the left of the image.
Good catch! Even when running through a splitter in slo-mo, I sometimes miss the sync between frames! Sony’s are consistently a frame or 2 behind Samsung due to more processing
There is always a caveat with every piece a tech out out there. I wanted an 85 inch TV, and settled on a 77 inch LG C2. QLED looks great to my eyes, I tested a q80b, qn85b, qn90b, and various LG qneds. Can hardly tell the difference between the qn85b and qn90b unless you put them up against and OLED. Qn90b in 85 inch was just too much money for my blood, so I settled for the c2. I'm happy with my purchase.
Odd, in the gaming section he doesn't mention how well the local dimming works with vrr. That's like the specific question I came here looking for an answer for
It works perfectly according to another respected RUclipsr (The calibrator guy). I was happy to hear that, as Samsungs issues with that and HGIG have soured me on them.
I have the 75 inch QNED 85 and it's been great! Got it about 3 weeks ago after upgrading from a 65 inch Samsung Q70R. My tv doesn't have any light leakage 🤞👍 so I am happy. The picture quality is similar to my Q70R but I had issues with the Samsung. For three years the Tv would turn itself on multiple times a day and would turn off when watching Prime video. I decided to upgrade to a bigger QNED tv.
I had a samsung TV for a few days 2 years ago. I returned it cause it kept turning on in tge middle of the night. I looked it up and its an issue theyve had for 10 years now. I would never buy any of their products except their phones.
How are you enjoying the 75 QNED85? I bought the 86" model back in November. I liked the Sony x900h overall but the lack of dimming zones and blooming really bothered me after a while.
@@chrisd1172 I ended up with the LG Qned85. It was several hundred cheaper and the room can have some pretty good light. Had it about 3 weeks and so far really enjoying it. Very glad I got the bigger size. The detail is so much better than my old plasma.
Light leakage in the corner is only on the right side not on the left and matches the asymmetrical brightness of the content. it seems like software to me so maybe an update could fix that? in fantastic beasts with symmetrical brightness (5:30) it's not there for example
I bought the very first mini led set, the TCL 65 825 in Feb 2020 and I love it. I recently came into some money so I upgraded to the Sony Z9K and when that thing gets good 4k HDR it's just something to behold it so bright and nice looking with excellent blacks. It does get some minor blooming that the TCL never shows but it looks so you are there I love it better than the TCL. Get a properly designed mini led set with good light control your going to be happy. I wouldn't recommend the Z9K for any user unless they can really afford it and my TCL can hang with it really well, it just doesn't have the 3d super bright picture, but I only paid 1400 for it. Sony still gets the Sony tax till you go down to the more consumer grade sets.
Hey man, I see your post everywhere. If I get the Z9K I hope I'm has giddy as you are. 😆 Did you ever have an OLED and, if so why the change? Do you watch a lot of sports or TV with the lights on? I'm guessing SONY z9k upscaling of low bit rate content is quite phenomenal. I think the Z9K however, would shine most using an apple TV or Nvidia Sheild as broadcast cable is low quality. I'm still unsure between an 80 plus inch OLED or go mini LED but, I stuck with Sony because I want the HT-A9. I need a versatile TV for both light and dark room viewing and the highest quality 4K HDR and SDR. Don't trust Samsung and Sony is a little pricy if I don't get the effect I want
@@bravedave90 I watch a lot of cable and OTA broadcasts and RUclips streaming etc. The signal through the Comcast box is horrible quality, very low bitrate 1080p that mostly looks soft with some artifacts on the Z9K. I have a Sheild and a Roku Ultra 4k and they both look excellent on it with the higher bitrate or 4khdr they show. I also have the HD HomeRun Prime and the 4k flex OTA boxes and they have much better quality signal than the cable box as well so the 1080p max video they provide looks excellent upscaled to 8k on it. If all I had seen was the typical cable quality picture on it I would not be super impressed with it. When I'm watching good HDR movies and demos it goes into beast mode and is just the best looking picture I have ever seen in 4k HDR. It does get some minor blooming depending on what it is showing but I don't really notice it once good HDR is being played. It really looks 3d and you are there in person when it gets good quality video to play with. I've never had a oled or a plasma but I've had plenty of excellent quality old school crt sets including a Toshiba 34hfx84 that was HD and could play anything up to 1080i video very well with excellent black levels and color. I upgraded because I figured Sony would have a even better picture than my excellent TCL mini led set does. The TCL has better blooming control but crushes blacks to do it but still looks great. The Sony just does everything else so much better, way brighter and HDR is on a whole other level. I have been watching all my favorite 4k demos and movies and just being blown away how much better they look now. Don't be afraid to play with all the picture settings if you get it. Out of the box it's merely good, crank some of the brightness and color tweaks up and it just keeps looking better. Set color temp to neutral as well and b/w will look perfect.
@@69Dartman appreciate the lengthy reply. I'm so intrigued by this TV and can only hope I'm as enthusiastic as you seem to be. I saw it on display at VE but it was a 4k demo so, it obviously looked crisp. We tried some "8K youtube" videos which didn't show much but I didn't except it to so, no real disappointments there. Anyhow, congratulations on your new TV. It sounds like you picked yourself a winner and it's giving you the experience you wanted at a price you were willing to pay. If it wasn't for the Sony HT-A9 and, Samsung DSE or genral QC concerns, I'd probably buy the Sammy. I'm debating between 83-85 inch A90J, X95K, or go LG and forget the HT-A9 altogether. The new TCL 935 I believe is gonna be another monster with a 6000:1 contrast ratio. But, I digress. 😎
@@bravedave90 Well, there's so many options coming up soon that who knows who else will release a set that can do everything the Z9K does and do it just as well or better. Besides that even if nobody tops it for a while the price on it and the X95 series sets should come down a bit after a while. Even if somebody builds a set that looks just as good if it's way cheaper that's a win right there anyway. I'd still be perfectly happy with my old TCL and it still looks great in my bedroom and is a nice reference set when I'm seeing something look weird on the Sony. If I hadn't been able to actually buy the Sony I'd probably run the TCL till it dies and hope to find a decent deal on something as good or better by then.

Keep this mind however, the 65" QNED may be the better choice as long as (1) no corner light bleed when watching black bar content and (2) you're in a brighter room. In a darker room the C2 really pops and the perfect black bars are 3 dimensional almost. If youre coming from an older TV, try the 65" QNED first and then upgrade to OLED at a later date, but keep those caveats in mind

In the case of miniled TVs, dividing the backlight into zones results in a significant improvement. I would like to see an evaluation where it becomes visible how the number of zones affects the image quality.
I've always wondered the same thing about the black bars. I really don't pay enough attention to it for me to be concerned about it.
Man as long as my brain recognizes it’s some sort of black then it’s all good lol
$1600 doesn't grow on trees, so damn right I want to know about it.

The LG looks good. Im okay with blooming. I rather have the nits.
That's like the specific question I came here looking for an answer for
It works terrible. No LCD w. Mini LED or FALD is impressive in gaming because backlight can't be controlled well enough.
It works perfectly according to another respected RUclipsr (The calibrator guy). I was happy to hear that, as Samsungs issues with that and HGIG have soured me on them.
@@Dr.WhetFarts umm.. My z9j worked flawlessly, as does any sony j or k series...
local dimming and VRR don't work at the same time
@@colclumper That's outright FALSE. Local dimming works perfectly in game mode on the LG QNED85. Unfortunately this is not the case for most LCD TVs.
Which 65" would you buy? Samsung QN90A or LG QNED85.

@@chrisd1172 I ended up with the LG Qned85. It was several hundred cheaper and the room can have some pretty good light. Had it about 3 weeks and so far really enjoying it. Very glad I got the bigger size. The detail is so much better than my old plasma.

Do a TCL/Hisense mini LED showdown.
Light leakage in the corner is only on the right side not on the left and matches the asymmetrical brightness of the content. it seems like software to me so maybe an update could fix that?
in fantastic beasts with symmetrical brightness (5:30) it's not there for example
Yes, it's very inconsistent but normally there if the brightness in the backlight is nearby
It sounds like you picked yourself a winner and it's giving you the experience you wanted
at a price you were willing to pay.
In Canada, there are some pretty good sales this week on the QNED85, especially the 75 in. Do you expect the panel and performance of the 75 to be comparable to 65? Anyone here can share their impressions of the 75?
I watched the QNED85 at Bestbuy, and was able to compare side -by-side with other LG offerings. I was so impressed with the quality, that I ordered the 86" on the spot. Yaay!!! I love LG!! Even though I was more aiming for LGQNE90, but I kept waiting for the prices to go down.... and after being very impatient, I chose LG C1 since when I got it, the price was $300 cheaper than LG QNED90 and QNED90 was OUT OF STOCK at Costco... so happy with LG here!! 😍👍🙏
I'd love to see you review the Hisense U8H! Specifically interested in the 75". Will it be the same panel/performance as the 65"?
Yes someone is thinking about none big names brands. This test really shows how hisense could have used a cheaper local dimming panel but you got the big name brands that are failing. You can go pick up a u8g 65 inch for $1000 and it's taking a dump all over these high premium TVs. Yes the u8h is out rn but Quantum TV has it already. By the looks of it the 55 inch model has about the same amount of glow or halo. But yes the 75 inch maybe that's when the TV will start looking like a oled or a better qn90a.
I bought previously a Samsung QLED Q85a and was disappointed very much. The picture quality is okay, but the colours are awful, the sheer amount of lack of features (very few picture and sound mode, lack of dolby vision, atmos, etc). After LG B7 it was lackluster so I returned it. The QNED 91 (2021) looks awsome, but waiting for QNED 91 (2022), but still no reviews for it. I hope you will have it soon :)

I’m trying to decide between the LG 65” LG QNED, and 55” C2 OLD Exactly the Same here, I have points so both will be free, I just want the bigger 65 inch, from what I’m reading OLED is better overall, but the extra 10 inches appeals to me! Can anyone help?!
