He couldn't walk w/o crutches as a kid til he was like 12, and even then it was with a limp. Then he started break dancing & skateboarding, which apparently lead to the conditions resurfacing. His legs aren't jelly, he can stand, just the hip bones are misaligned, which causes extreme pain. So, he uses the crutch to ease the weight, and the skateboard helps for distances & to keep his hips still while traveling. He only walks when he's at home for short distances.
Simply amazing combination of talents. Love RJD2 and can't believe my eyes every time I see Bill Shannon do his thing. Super cool, super smooth. Great F-in' video!
I think this guy is genius. Not hobbling along thru town like someone declared as 'disabled' but moving with entertaining flow. Quite comparable to some of the disabled breakdancers of the 80's who refused to be kept out of something they wished to do and so forth incorporated their crutches into their repertoire of moves..
Ingenious, RJD2 keeps reinventing this game and I don't think that any one can keep up. Unless they're one of the artists collaborating with him. His style has completely changed my outlook on modern music, this is the past present and future. Before i heard of RJD2 i did not think i liked electronic music, but he hs easily changed my mind, and hopefully the minds of countless others.
That was the coolest thing I've ever seen. The song lyrics apply to the video too. He figured out a way to overcome having people help him all the time with his walking on crutches. Now he walks better with crutches that we do with legs!
I say RELAX to all the negative folk out there....WHY? i sall I gotta say? WHY so you have to be so? This is a great display of talent and skill. Thanks
Lyrical and musical genius. I'm amazed with this guy. I can barely do a fucking pushup and he can throw his weight around using his arms like a gymnast. Awesome song and beautiful video!
I am addicted to this video. god, read the information. It's so phenomenal, and somehow it brings out this raw spirit in me that just wants to "move" (though, I've never really been a dancer) as I feel. I also love the song...though I know RJD2 received a lot of criticism on this album.
this video is moving, I dont know how to explain it, but thats why this video is amazing, you cant explain it. it is definitely mind blowing. awesome work, big up to rj and joey garfield, I loved it. oh and correction, they were not getting off the bus, they were crossing the street. same thing though.
I wish RJD2 was still making music like this.... not making beats for rappers and what other singers, this is one of my favorite songs by him along with stuff like let there be horns, 1976, the glow etc...
i i know everything was not planed except at the start but when the guy and the lady at the bus he played it so well and got a laugh out of them love this video
Well, Rj, you tried to help him - lol! Great meeting you Tuesday night. Still can't believe I kept thinking "Does he have any idea how much he looks like Rj?!" What a duh!!! My best...
Amazing flow. There are some great moments in this between the dancer and the people on the street especially the freeze on the lamp post. Love it. The vid is a work of art in and of itself. The track is dope but I agree that the sound quality is sketchy. Is that because it was from back in the day?
Think I seen a segment on the news about what this guy has. It's called bilateral hip deformity. Makes it difficult to walk without pain. Doesn't slow him down though. Awesome song + vid
There is a higher quality version at GhostRobot. Seems Bill Shannon (the dancer) choreographed the Limping Angel character's performance in Cirque du Soleil's Varekai. I thought it looked familiar,
First, RJD2 is awesome! Second, Oh My GOD, from 36 seconds on that was all ONE shot. SICK! What were you shooting on and did you use a steady cam? Amazing video.
Strange, their are higher quality versions of this song and video, only the video is a different take. The movements are different and the skate board part happens a little more fluidly. But it seems that this one is more in sync with the song.
i love it and i love him. keep em comn. i actauly got a demo from before he released dead ringer called "dead sampler" and i actualy like it better! but dont get me wrong. dead ringer is amazing. i havnt heard this album yet though.
when he almost runs into the people getting off the bus, that was so great how weird a situation that was... Imagine getting off the bus and seeing guy break dancing his way accross the street (with crutches in his hands) with a camera and crew following and recording his moves. and I imagine they had a boombox playing the song.
...oh and one other vid that deserves mention is Cylob's "Rewind" Not the best example, but it was done 10 years ago - a year before the Semisonic vid.
@lpilgrm yea i agree with that, his new albums are good but it's like he wants to take a bit of a different direction now and it's unlikely we'll ever see another album like deadringer or since we last spoke
Well whatever the semantics its impressive considering his er... debilitation. I mean he had me fooled until Oddite's attention to detail put me right ;) Thanks Oddite

I have goose-fleshes listening to the bass and his voice. He's the Master
One Love
Simply amazing combination of talents. Love RJD2 and can't believe my eyes every time I see Bill Shannon do his thing. Super cool, super smooth. Great F-in' video!
can't believe he hit that wallride! Dude is my hero and RJD2 delivers yet another classic! Great video! Peace :-j

WOW, really great shots.
steadycam is cool.
Awesome video, he had a pair of those wheelie shoes that is how he was sliding around like that.
from 37 seconds on its all one take!?!?! Awesome!
I love this - always will - and thanks Rjd2 for the coolest music videos!
Lyrical and musical genius. I'm amazed with this guy. I can barely do a fucking pushup and he can throw his weight around using his arms like a gymnast.
Awesome song and beautiful video!
Great lesson. How one can stumble a bit the first few steps out and then work it into this graceful choreography.
One of the best video's I've seen in years, amazing.
It's CRUTCH!!! I love Bill Shannon and have been a fan of his ever since I saw Varekai! He's awesome and so is RJD2!!!
this was a nice video.the message was, even though you have disability, you still can do incredible stuff that they don't think you can do.
One of my favorite tracks. Really bright genuis production. RJD2 - i love your work
While this is not one of my favorite songs by RJD2, this is an amazing video. Beautifully shot.
amazing! everything about it - the song, the dancing, sooo good
I am addicted to this video. god, read the information. It's so phenomenal, and somehow it brings out this raw spirit in me that just wants to "move" (though, I've never really been a dancer) as I feel. I also love the song...though I know RJD2 received a lot of criticism on this album.
The hold when he "crashes into" the lampost is soooo cool
and the video goes with the music so well

This was tight. I like the tie-in. The song is nice, the vibe was great. nice job.
this is the greatest video possible, like this is the least most thing you'd likely think to see a person on crutches do
this is amazing , he has a degenerative hip disorder, so he uses his crutches and a skateboard to get around , thats super duty tuff work
Fantastic video. One of the best i've seen.
I'm really impresed, loved the track, loved the video!
Can't stop seeing it!
That turned out beautifully. What a fantastic take.
I’ve searched ages for this video. Thank you and hello once more 240p
I never unterstood why people just pass by and dont even look at him. I would cheer and cry how damn awesome this is, wtf.
I wish RJD2 was still making music like this.... not making beats for rappers and what other singers, this is one of my favorite songs by him along with stuff like let there be horns, 1976, the glow etc...
when i watched this it really impacted me on how a disability can make u better than everybody else. keep crutchin Bill Shannon :)
Bill Shannon and RJD2 are possible the best combination of anything in the entire world.
i i know everything was not planed except at the start but when the guy and the lady at the bus he played it so well and got a laugh out of them love this video
That blew my mind, talk about the most amazing thing ever. Way to go.
One of my favorites music videos!
This video really stunned me. Just epic. Pure solace.

Well, Rj, you tried to help him - lol! Great meeting you Tuesday night. Still can't believe I kept thinking "Does he have any idea how much he looks like Rj?!" What a duh!!! My best...
i fall in love this song everytime =)
its much better with the video
W.O.W. It's an outright assault on every definition of disability. ... ... a tribute to the spirit of a remarkable young man.
Amazing flow. There are some great moments in this between the dancer and the people on the street especially the freeze on the lamp post. Love it. The vid is a work of art in and of itself. The track is dope but I agree that the sound quality is sketchy. Is that because it was from back in the day?
Not sure what's so special about this. Woooooow, a guy on crutches. Real original.
Bill Shannon is the man! Awesome Vid!
wow...he's so graceful, it looks like he's walking, or rather, dancing, on air!!
Think I seen a segment on the news about what this guy has. It's called bilateral hip deformity. Makes it difficult to walk without pain. Doesn't slow him down though. Awesome song + vid
The video is as good as the track....Amazing!
Wow....this video and this song makes me kinda feeling happy inside of me
I really enjoyed this, mesmerizing!
It was Very Very inspiring Drawing to this Music! Thanks RJD2 :D
one of the greatest dance songs eva :)
Great video, I love that song.
still loving the vid. How many tries did it take to finally get to the perfect single shot?
such a pro. props to this amazing individual
That's incredible... he moves so seemingly effortlessly.
wicked !!! B) nice video. the guy on crutches, Bill Shannon, wow... he's cool!!
There is a higher quality version at GhostRobot. Seems Bill Shannon (the dancer) choreographed the Limping Angel character's performance in Cirque du Soleil's Varekai. I thought it looked familiar,
rjd2 much respect for you
beautifully shot, is this steadicam?
This is awesome! Much respect!
First, RJD2 is awesome! Second, Oh My GOD, from 36 seconds on that was all ONE shot. SICK! What were you shooting on and did you use a steady cam? Amazing video.
Pretty sure it's bacside. Isn't it determined by which side of the board is facing the way you came from?
number 700, what it do? Very creative presentation, checkered shirt/inmate cleaning/skateboard is RJD2
Strange, their are higher quality versions of this song and video, only the video is a different take. The movements are different and the skate board part happens a little more fluidly. But it seems that this one is more in sync with the song.
no it can do with youtube as it compresses certain files. so your better off compressing them before you upload them
I really enjoy this video.
This got me stoked to go skate. Sick video.
i love it and i love him. keep em comn.
i actauly got a demo from before he released dead ringer called "dead sampler" and i actualy like it better! but dont get me wrong. dead ringer is amazing.
i havnt heard this album yet though.
This was amazing!
ive seen this cruch thing on an advert before
but im not sure what advert, i think it was a tmobile one
The last time I saw this the quality was much better than this, and I'm positive this is the same one.
when he almost runs into the people getting off the bus, that was so great how weird a situation that was... Imagine getting off the bus and seeing guy break dancing his way accross the street (with crutches in his hands) with a camera and crew following and recording his moves. and I imagine they had a boombox playing the song.
absolutely amazing
really diggin the glides...very nice
@Jsmoggy i dont really kno, my cuz came over with 2 burned cds like 3 years ago and ive been hooked ever since!!
...oh and one other vid that deserves mention is Cylob's "Rewind"
Not the best example, but it was done 10 years ago - a year before the Semisonic vid.
this video & real story behind it is absolutely amazing!!!
I love this vid. Is this a re mix?
talk about making the most out of his condition. kudos for billy. this video was sick. :)
@lpilgrm yea i agree with that, his new albums are good but it's like he wants to take a bit of a different direction now and it's unlikely we'll ever see another album like deadringer or since we last spoke
what a cool track and a cool video. its so cool it hurts.
LOL, thanks for the lovely social commentary there Mr. Smith...Who gives a damn...It's a great song.
is it me or is the sound quality on this vid poor? im listening though awesome speakers so i notice the difference
@frederickdwsmith Then what would be the challenge in making it look like he's skating if he was actually skating?
amazing video and song... was this on MTV's strutter show?
I think it was
Well whatever the semantics its impressive considering his er... debilitation. I mean he had me fooled until Oddite's attention to detail put me right ;) Thanks Oddite
Who cares about the quality? Bill is amazing!
What's up Krutch Master. Glad to see your still dancing.
This is just incredibly cool.
