    Just replaced the thermostat on my 06 Quest yesterday, what a royal beeyoch. Did not watch a vid prior, just went after it. Funny thing is that after watching this excellent vid today it was like an instant flashback. I did everything exactly as this guy did with one exception and a very important and time saving move. There is no need to pull the engine mount bolts and jack the motor up. Instead, it's much easier to use a 12 mil socket with a long extension and drive that hex head tension pully adjustment bolt downward. Thats the one that sits in front of that third and lowest bolt on the thermostat neck. It travels down and by turning counterclockwise. This creates just enough clearance to get a socket with a short extension on that lower hard to reach pesky bolt. Hope this little piece helps the next person out.

      Thank you! I understand what your saying because I just replaced the alternator on my 2004 Murano. I had to loosen the center bolt on the tensioner pulley and then with a 12 mm shallow socket and a swivel and a long extension turn the hex head adjuster to lower the pulley for an alternator replacement. If you watch other videos on alternator replacement, they demo how this is accomplished. (Note: with an alternator replacement after removing the drive belt you have to remove the pulley to get to the lower alternator bolt.)

    I just now got the thermostat housing out, stopped for breakfast, lol. Thanks for making this video, made a world of difference. I was able to get it off without fooling with the motor mounts or jacking up the motor... Wasn't easy but using different combinations of sockets and extensions...and some cuss words....I got it. Less than an hour

      One commenter stated that you can lower the tensioner pulley to access the lower bolt without removing the motor mount. If you watch videos on alternator replacement, some RUclipsrs demo how to lower this pulley.

    Is there any way to know if you need a new water pump vs a thermostat?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  8 лет назад +3

      Hello Vicente. Water pumps are usually replaced due to leaking or the bearings going bad and making noise. If the car has really high mileage and the pump is original you may consider it then. Thermostats are more common problems. They can stick open or closed. If they stick close they can cause overheating. Or if they stick open they can cause it to run two cool and cause issues with fuel card to me. If I'm doing the water pump I usually do the thermostat as a precaution. I hope this helps thank you for writing to me!

    • @mplsfarmer
      @mplsfarmer 4 года назад

      I just discovered that the water pump is under the timing belt cover and you should consider replacing both the timing belt and water pump at the same time regardless of which of those two items is in need of replacing.

    • @MrSirGiuseppe
      @MrSirGiuseppe 3 года назад

      @@mplsfarmer its because its a timing chain and getting that job done is nearly more expensive than a new engine entirely. The parts are relatively cheap compared to the labor of getting to them.

    Hello,
    I have a quick question . Now my 05 murano is leaking antifreeze from somewhere up on top and I am not finding any cracks in hoses or housing but it iscoming down from where the aluminum band is crimped around the top piece to the radiator. Now keep in mi d that it is not spraying out crazily just dripping out enough to empty the resevoir but the radiator stays filled. Now what could that issue be and how costly would it be to fix?

    • @WhatUpGANACHE
      @WhatUpGANACHE 5 лет назад

      Same thing is currently happening on our 05 murano. The radiator needs to be replaced, confirmed by my local shop. Quoted $400-$500 for the job. Bought a new radiator for $70 and installed it in a few hours.

    Hello, I just replace the thermostat, but still gets hot, I've check for leaks and nothing. So I believe is the water pump problem, do you have a video or how to do it. I have a murano 04.

    My garage is saying they have to pull the dashboard off too replace the thermostat and radiator on my Murano. Are they screwing with me ?

    • @mplsfarmer
      @mplsfarmer 4 года назад +1

      Yes they are screwing with you if they are talking about replacing the radiator and thermostat. But, if they are talking about replacing the heater core because you aren’t getting any warm air in the cabin, then that’s different. They probably do hav to remove the dash to get to the heater core.

    Wow only took expansion tank and fuse block out the way. Yes bottom bolt is a bitch but can be done. Also radiator doe not need to be drain. Just yank hose off and you'll loose some coolant buut not all.

    how do i air bleed in nissan murano 2006

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Art. There's no special trick to bleeding the air out of the cooling system. Just fill it up and let it run until the thermostat opens. And if you think you're getting an air pocket somewhere we can make sure that you have the heater turned off. And sometimes jacking up the nose of the car can help with that. Hope this helps thank you so much for watching my videos and writing to me.

    Will not let the vehicle not to run?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  3 года назад

      Not understanding your question. If it doesn’t start after doing the repair make sure you didn’t accidentally disconnect one of the cam sensors on the front of the engine. Or if it’s severely overheat it it might be engine damage.

    Hi I have a 2009 Nissan murano and I'm wondering if I need to replace hoselines, thermostat and radiator cap when I'm replacing a radiator?

    • @mplsfarmer
      @mplsfarmer 4 года назад

      No, you don’t. But you should consider replacing the large coolant hoses (not the small transmission hoses) if the rubber feels soft. You can take your radiator cap to most auto stores to have it tested, but the part is only $10 and I suggest you just replace it. The thermostat is REALLY a nightmare; so leave it alone.
