    This is incredible! You are a great player and teacher as well, thats very rare. This is incredibly helpful, because its pretty complex music (at least by todays standard of pop music). I only recently got into Prefab Sprout, and its very good stuff.

    I tried following the chord positions with a classical guitar, either my hands aren't as strong or the classical guitar's neck is just too wide, the GM7 chord was only achievable for me if I used the capo. I am just impressed with your tutorials, I hope you make more, and have the next generation discover Prefab Sprout like a diamond in the ruff. cheers and more power!

    Enjoying your channel. Paddy had a very intricate songwriting style and I imagine working out the songs requires a lot of patience! Well done. For me, 'Don't Sing' takes the cake as his most interesting song, I could listen to that on repeat all day.

    Great analysis. Using a capo on 2 or tuning up a whole tone makes the song really come alive though with the use of open strings. But I'm nit picking. Appreciatethe the lesson of a sunny tune on a sunny day . 🤪

    I’m pretty sure it’s played in Fmaj7 capo on the third fret. It makes all the guitar motifs easier with open strings

    • @fabsprout5301
      @fabsprout5301  9 месяцев назад

      why would you do that?

    • @thomasdolby
      @thomasdolby 8 месяцев назад +2

      Actually m8 Paddy and Mart used to tune their guitars up a semitone. The cause of much confusion.
      You mostly nailed it. Hard to convey without the bass.
      I think you'll find though that the instrumental break chords are the same as the verse, only the solo flute/guitar melody makes them sound different. Thomas

    • @fabsprout5301
      @fabsprout5301  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@thomasdolby yes and Martin also told me the same. However what I try to do is emulate the sum of the parts, including the baseline where I can, plus extraneous notes played by other things, to convey the overall effect, just on the guitar. Challenging but instructive!

  • @bingefeller

    During the verse, instead of F#m7 - Em7 - Gmaj7, I sometimes play F#m7 - Am7 (2 beats) - Ab7#5 (2 beats) - Gmaj7. Try it!!

    • @fabsprout5301
      @fabsprout5301  3 года назад +1

      Yes that works as a nice substitution (although Paddy didn't do that of course). By putting Am7 in front of the D7, you do a classic ii-V-I where the I is the G in this case, which is the prominent centre of the song anyway (even though it's in D). But then you have also replaced the D7 with its tritone substitution Ab7. Finally the #5 in the Ab7 keeps the E pedal note from the Am7.

  • @southernman2222

    Sounds good ..but why do this song dont have any note for its melodic line..LEAD GUITAR? there isnt any sheet music or any trace for the melody..whatever..i was getting some "notes" by "ear"..i could share with you what i "hear"...to get any comment of my work? ...best wishes for you!

    • @fabsprout5301
      @fabsprout5301  3 года назад +3

      That's what I point out right at the start, if you were listening, and I gave the reasons why I rendered it a semitone downwards
