  • Don Meichenbaum, Ph.D., was voted one of the top 10 most influentual psychologists of the 20th Century. Together with Marvin Goldfried and Arron Beck, he is credited with creating what has become the most dominant form of psychotherapy in the world: cognitive-behavioral therapy. He, by contrast, attributes the entire approach to his mother. In this interview, he reviews the history of the approach as well as highlighting the strategies and evidence-based principles clinicians can use to help clients survive the COVID-19 crisis.

Don is a superstar and this is a phenomenally important interview. Every psychotherapist should know about the true origin of cognitive behavioral therapy. Wise and witty.

Thank you, Scott. I'm inspired and I'm smiling now and upon reflection...yes I'm smiling in my high school yearbook. Thank you for taking the initiative to share such a valuable relationship with an Elder who is truly a national treasure. The two of you together truly "modeled and engendered" positive emotion and empathy for us. What has inspired me is contemplating the value of history, however good bad or ugly the world maybe, I see the value and design in how my history reveals who I am and my resilience. I truly am stronger at the broken places and it is the beginning of living and the end of surviving. Thank you.

I got a notice that someone liked my comment. When I came here to see if I could find out who it was I noticed someone gave my comment a thumbs down. What could I have said that offended someone? Guess they a member of a different church of therapy.

Phillip Ziegler Or somebody accidentally disliked your comment. However, I gave you a thumbs up because you really spoke from the bottom of my heart. Have a beautiful day!
