Brother, PLEASE use a guard with that mandolin slicer. Two weeks ago, I sliced the tip of my thumb off using one without the guard. It’s still not fully healed. It took 5 hours in the ER, lidocaine into the thumb and cauterizing the wound to get it to stop bleeding, and all that happened on a weeknight. Whatever time and hassle you think you’re saving by not using it will be wasted in the ER. Trust me.
Im dutch and we use cheese shavers that basically have a sharp edge. When the cheese is hard, and you pull towards you, the cheese shaver could slice your wrist open. But i have never heard of anyone not using it because it is unsafe.
not really it has to be really unripe like when you eat it its bitter and no amount of lime salt and oil is going to make it taste good. This guy is actually using an almost ripe avocado that is ripe but is yet to soften.
Yeah but the flavor is not the same. Riping like in any other fruit literally changes the composition of the fruit thus changing the flavor. Because avocados have a high fat content they can be 'softened' but that's not ripe. Riping turns fruit sweeter as it breaks down. Maybe it's not as pronounced in avocados but I definitely can tell.
I like to cut it regularly, put it on parchment paper with olive oil, salt, pepper, into the air fryer or oven at 400 for 10 minutes and the slices are soft with a slight toasty/roast flavor, doesn’t taste ripe at all just like a regular soft avocado. I do that when I’m REALLY craving an avocado and cannot wait a day with the paper bag trick for it to be ripe.
Nah, you can eat it, but it's not creamy, so just let it sit outside for 2 or 3 days until it kinda feels soft. Then, just store it in the fridge. That's what my mom does, and we have creamy avocados every time, and they don't over ripen it because you put them in the fridge at the right time.
You should also store foods like this in a bag next to another fruit that ripens after being picked, such as a banana. Fruits release a gas to ripen themselves. Putting it in a bag traps the gas, and putting it with a banana releases even more gas. They will both ripen quicker
Thanks but no thanks but for someone who grew up with the stuff, been picked from a tree or picked up off the ground. There's nothing like a ripe avocados
Great to know. The local market near us has avocados that are all the same age. So sometimes we go in and every single Avocado is 3 days out from being ripe. Not useful when we want to make Guacamole tonight.
A way that’s actually worked for me to get ripe avocados faster is to leave them in a paper bag right after getting them! Not sure why it works, but even though the tactic is still, yk, actually just waiting for it, it does speed it up :))

Sure! Here is a process on how avacados are ripened: 1. Choose the right avocados: Select avocados that are firm and free from any visible bruises or blemishes. The color of the avocado's skin may vary depending on the variety, so focus on the texture instead. 2. Gather the necessary materials: You will need a brown paper bag or a plastic bag and a ripe banana or apple. The banana or apple releases ethylene gas, which helps speed up the ripening process. 3. Place the avocados in the bag: Put the avocados into the bag, making sure they are not overcrowded. If you have multiple avocados, it's better to ripen them separately. 4. Add the ripening agent: Place a ripe banana or apple inside the bag with the avocados. This will increase the release of ethylene gas and help in the ripening process. Make sure the banana or apple is not touching the avocados directly. 5. Close the bag: Seal the bag tightly, trapping the ethylene gas inside. This will create a controlled environment, allowing the avocados to ripen faster. 6. Store in a warm location: Keep the bag of avocados at room temperature, preferably in a warm spot like the kitchen countertop. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight or near sources of heat. 7. Check the avocados regularly: Check the avocados daily to monitor their ripening progress. Depending on the initial firmness, it can take anywhere from a few days to a week for the avocados to ripen. 8. Test for ripeness: Gently squeeze one of the avocados to check for ripeness. If it yields slightly to gentle pressure but is not too soft, it is ready to eat. If it feels very soft or mushy, it may be overripe. Remember that avocados can quickly transition from an underripe to an overripe state, so keep a close eye on them. 9. Store ripe avocados: Once the avocados have ripened to your desired level, you can either eat them immediately or store them in the refrigerator to slow down the ripening process. Ripe avocados can last for a few days in the fridge. 10. Enjoy your ripe avocados: Use the ripe avocados in various dishes like guacamole, salads, sandwiches, or as a topping for toast. Enjoy the creamy and flavorful fruits! Remember, the ripening process may vary depending on the initial condition of the avocados and the ambient temperature. This process provides a general guideline, but it's important to adjust the ripening time as needed.

Ripeness makes a huge difference in flavor… This really made me think about all the silly things people are doing to get noticed. In the last few months I’ve began loosing interest in reels, many people are just posting altered truths…
A better option: Put your avocado in a brown paper bag and store it somewhere warm. It will ripen twice as fast. Alternatively you can place it in the bottom drawer of your fridge to reduce ripening time but, it’s not nearly as fast. The method shown in the video is not that effective. The texture is different and it doesn’t have as much flavor as a ripe avocado 🥑 It’s also harder to digest, especially for small children. If you do it as in the video, be sure to slice it as thin as possible and let it set w the lemon 🍋 juice a long time, even if you’re making it into guacamole, otherwise the lemon juice won’t soften it.
I’m so worried for people that say you can’t cut/scoop an underripe avocado. It’s really not hard. Quarter it for easier peeling and you can easily remove the skin with a knife and slice it. No matter how underripe. If it’s so underripe you can’t peel/cut it that way, a little lemon won’t save you from how nasty it’s gonna be. If you’re really desperate just ripen it in the oven on low before you peel it.
It’s not about the toughness or how “soft”. A unripe avocado is almost flavorless so when one is ripe the actual flavor development is much more profound.
Putting your avocados in a paper bag with an apple and closing the bag makes them ripe in a day or two just left on the counter in the bag. After they start to soften put them in the fridge to keep from over-ripening.
I worked at Denny's for a while, the avocaos were NEVER ripe. So I had to come up with something fast. I slice them in half, remove the pit, keep the skin on, and then dice it as fine as you can without breaking the peel. Then just squish out the insides. Unless the avocado is rock hard it works like a charm.
you can also put a avo thats not fully ripe yet (say its 60-70% there) you can put it in microwave on medium level for 1min and then turn it around and another 1min. It becomes warmer and softer.
After just 5 minutes with the lemon and salt your avocado will be soft and delicious and ready to go!
