  • The factory roll cage on our Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon is failing. Part of the roll cage is actually beginning to tear, despite the fact that we've never rolled our flipped our Jeep. At this point, it's become a pretty big safety concern for us and we need to fix it. That way if we ever do roll the Jeep while off road in the future, the roll cage that's supposed to save us....doesn't kill us instead.

    The stepchild is the greatest truck that thing is sick. You need to finish it and put in the hall of fame for the most perfect custom jeep. Problem is when way far away from home when you break stuff from hard core wheeling locally nobody will have parts for it. I just think in a couple more years you might be couple hundred thousand into that thing. I think you need to go trail mater style and build a rig that has all common parts and wheel the shit out of it. That jeep is just so nice it doesn't make since. Love the channel your mechanic your crew is awesome. Your wife knows so much stuff about 4x4 stuff. Thanks for the vids.

    Simple fix for the bolts backing out of the exhaust valve. Drill a small hole across the head of each allen bolt and run a lock wire through to prevent them from backing out.

    I like how Chris is thinking about details like the lights in the back and how to stiffen all up, moving the compressor and so on. I think everyone of us would be happy if we could have "our own Chris" 😀. How nice would it be to come home with some broken stuff (like we always do) and just call Chris and he's not only going to fix it, he also makes it better?!

    Sorry, I already have rear heated seats in my JL for the rear passengers. Had them done in my PRP seats and my son loves it.

    Kevin got in a hurry months ago he said it was cracked and had a spare cage. Instead of changing it, he chose to continue the build

      We want to go wheeling. It’s been too long not wheeling. The full cage will come later once we get some content again using the stepchild. She’s been down toooooo long

      A full cage should be the first mod of any serious wheeler. unfortunately its the last most of the time.

    Sorry Kevin, but it’s not going to be the first JL with rear heated seats. I installed them in mine. It is fairly easy to do. I put rear heated seats in all my vehicles.

    Put the ARB under the passenger seat, so when Brit is mad at Kev he could just turn on the air and make her smile.

    May want to build a truss connecting the tops of the shock towers. I had similar issues with a truck and using a camera you'd see the frame flexing. The truss solved the issue and isolated the stress to the suspension. Actually could feel the added control in the suspension. Hope that helps.

    Wow! Watching StepChild strip reminds us she’s all grown up! The fine adjustments on the front - just amazing - you made it look easy. Roll bar and braces look so good, maybe paint them and leave uncovered to show them off..? Nice work Chris. Kevin, you looked so happy getting the exhaust valve to work! LiteBriteNationCracksUp!

    The Jeep cage is pretty thin. Considering where this rig goes, it should have a cage. If you can’t get someone to give it to you, it would be worth buying to protect your body

      Cage isn’t the problem. The time it takes is the problem. The jeep has been down for a year and I want to freaking go offroadin!!

    Maybe you could try drilling holes in the Alen heads and wire them together to keep them from backing out of the exhaust

    Keep both the build and wheeling videos coming! Really I love the build videos…to be able to see what it takes to keep our rigs running…gives me ideas and that I am not the only one that constantly addresses items on my 4x4. Great work Chris! Of course the channel works because of Brittany! And Kevin is always good…even if for a laugh.

    Kind of surprised Kevin didn’t decide to do a full custom cage from front to back. I suppose if there’s no issues with the front section then there’s no reason to change it. But if he starts wheeling hard again then I imagine you’ll find more cracks in the pieces of factory cage still remaining.

      No time. We plan to in the future but really want to wheel the jeep. It’s been over a year since we’ve had proper fun

    It would seem that the factory roll cages wasn't designed for the abuse that Kevin puts it through. Sometimes, you just have to mod the inside to stiffen it up. Happy Trails to all at LBN.

    Since you are working on the roll cage and Chris mentioned that a lot of ppl see issues with the center cross-bar why not weld the seams to create more rigidity now verses waiting to deal with it later when it does crack? Chris’s dimes are wicked nice too btw.

    If this vehicle wasn’t modified, I’d say finding a razor blade in close proximity to the insidey bits of a bic pen (sans tube) seems a bit sus… 😂

    Screw the Dynamat. Even after exhaust gets coated it's still going to get hot enough where the butyl on the Dynamat starts to stink like roofing tar. Just bedline the tub & top it off with something like Armor Lite or BedTred flooring system. If you insist on the sound deadner route go with Second Skin. Dynamat is just the most known deadner but far from being the best or even good for that matter. Dynamat is to sound deadner what Bondo is to body filler.

      That's pretty much what happened with my JK after I LS swapped it. The cab was starting to cook & the excessive noise was driving me nuts. I ended up doing 2 layers of deadner & a layer of acoustic sound barrier and on hot summer days the cab had this odor like old country road asphalt tar. Then yanking the deadner out was the absolute biggest PITA. One of my biggest regrets with my build...and I've had plenty of regrets so that's says a lot.

      That's a common problem in the car audio big Basshead builds. Those guys have like half a dozen layers of sound deadner. I went to a big meet in SoFlo and the whole lot stunk like a newly paved road from all the Butyl cooking in the sun.

    Great video! I hope you wired the rear seat heaters while it was apart. What's up with the battery change? Also, Husky gloves......Come on! Your Snap-On dealer should be ashamed. Can't send the Snap-On poster boy a pair of gloves.......

    Check into lizard skin thermal and heat shield, it’s a sparky in and pricey but the best product I found on the market yet, that stuff is completely bad ass and pair that with armor light carpet replacement very nice and durable and low maintenance to stay looking nice

    I inverted my sway bar once. Tore up all kinds of stuff. That was a long 2 hour drive home. I use quick disconnects now instead of the electric.

    Why even put a stock bumper on the Bronco Chris maybe you can build a super Chris Bumper for the Bronco you do some of the best Fab jobs when it comes to making things work.

    hmm.. maybe run the external reservoirs under the c pillar instead of across the back.. just a idea.. Not sure if they would be in the way of something else but it may work better.

    Wonder how many 'street driven only' Wranglers end up with that cracking,... betting on None.
    Nice location for the reservoirs, keeps them well out of the way of being caught on any obstacle off road.

    it didn't come with a factory roll cage, it came with a factory sports bar! big legal difference lol jeep never calls it a roll cage!

    That was what I was concerned about when I saw how they were integrating the door structures into the roll bars like that. Chris: was there an advantage to using round tube vs square extrusion to replace the damaged cross bar, or was it just simply a "use the stock we got" situation?

    Makes sense to me to let the cage flex.( Crossbar with bushings)If you stiffen the cage up it will put all the stress somewhere else. Most likely body mounts.

    Perhaps, Chris should have his own channel? All fabrication, all the time. You could call it: Lite Brite Day Care. Lite Brite could still do wheeling and drifting, like before. More income opportunity. Just a thought.

    If I was going that far I'd be doing a full cage. But not my build and not my money. It does look good though.

      A full cage would take way too much additional time. The vehicle has been down a year and it’s time to wheel. A cage will come next year or 2

    Raceland has better exhaust valves than QTP. Know from experience.

    Too hot for loctite then try Stage 8 fasteners.
