Hi, I would like to just say that I can’t believe you took the time to give such detailed comparison of different bikes and sum everything up for me in one vdieo. I was confused as to what to buy and this video basically made up my mind and saved me from making mistakes. Thank you for you time and effort for putting this video. I subscribed and liked 👍👍👍👌
Hi. Did you get it? If so how does it feel to you? As expected? Better? Worse? I'm considering this motorcycle as my entry level and would stick for longer if happy as styling is right, it's agile and probably punchy enough for my needs
Great video, I think a lot of people get more bike than they ever need, this bike is lovely. I've just got a new cb125 I would definitely think of this for my next one.
Brilliant review. Ive been torn between this & the 310GS and I think I'll go with the Honda. In Brisbane, Australia, the naked bike is best as it gets a little warm here!
A great little bike! I bought one a few weeks ago and traded in my Kawasaki Versys 650L for the CB300R. I ride much more and believe my biking skills will improve. I no longer worry about dropping it and wondering how to pick it up again. With mine I commute to work from home and for that it’s ideal.
Brilliant review. Thanks, I've just bought one these, picking it up next week, I don't think I would miss the power of a bigger bike because I'm a cyclists more than a motor cyclist. I think this bike will be ideal for the country lanes I will be using it for. I'm pretty new to you tube and it makes a change to to watch something that is not try to sell you something. Probably the best review of the CB300R I've seen, and I've seen loads. Thanks again for taking the time review the bike and post it on you tube.
@@ronlysons6750 once you get the hang of it your going to love it..... Good on you for buying it. Many people even at 50 think it's too late which is nuts. Have a great time my friend👍🍻
I've watched a lot of videos, and this is one of the better ones. No fancy music and graphics, just good solid info about the bike and that's really what most folks are looking for. Thank you, well done.
BTW, any reason you can't ride over a dirt road with this bike? While I live in the city, I also own a home in the country and there are several dirt roads I'd like to explore. Thanks again.
I've read on many forums the suggestion to change the front sprocket from the stock 14 to a 15 tooth to make that short first gear a bit taller and to reduce the rpm at higher speeds. Some claim consistanly exceeding tbe max torque (6500 rpm & 60 mph) will reduce the engine life to about 10k miles. What are your thoughts on these issues?
While my friends were going on about Yamaha being more exciting or something, and being extremely critical of Honda, I've always found myself gravitating towards Honda after reading the reviews. I guess it just attracts different folks. with regards to not wanting more power, I have to agree to a large degree. I used to be looking at large displacement but after I started track riding (not GP track, but smaller motorcycle track) i came to understand that the 300-ish motorcycle is really where my current skill level allows me to really enjoy the bike. the more i ride on track, the less i feel the need to open up on the public road. the other important thing is that the 300-ish cc bikes are much cheaper to track, use less oil, cheaper tyres and consumables. would i want more? perhaps if my skills eventually catches up, but for now i think a small and light bike is more than enough
Definately, and you're right different bikes suit different people. If it wasn't for the gears being so short (which only bothers me and not some others) I may still have my 300. Great bikes 👍🍻🏍️
Thanks, excellent review! Everyone online and at the dealers was saying to just get the 500, but after watching this I think I'll get the 300. Plus the insurance is half as much at least for a newbie.
What I love about Honda's little "beginner bike" is they make it inexpensive to own and beautifully well to get new riders hooked on their brand and so you get more bang for your buck than with any other bike, new rider or not. As for my buddies making fun of my little bike, smaller than my previous bikes, they don't anymore because now they know I can lose them on a twisty road with it if I want to. No, it doesn't do litre bike 200mph speed but I don't care how fast an idiot can go in a straight line because the winding roads were made for me and this bike was made for them. A perfect match.
Yeap exactly Matt. Honda got alot right with this bike and as much as I like the CB 1000 and the test of the neo sports range I still day the 300 is the best real world bike of the lot of them 👍🍻🏍️
Thanks for the comprehensive review👍 just saw this one at the showing room today and really liked the feel of it. Actually I went there to check out the cb500x but immediately saw that’s its too big for me to handle at the moment ( just getting my license out and I’m not a tallish guy). That 300 might be my first
Just got into riding. On an 07 cbr 125 at the moment for the first year. This bike really caught my eye though. Hopefully I can upgrade to it next summer! Thanks for a great review :)
So based on lots of research, and after watching this video I made my mind to buy this bike which I did buy a 2019 CB300R in Grey with 200kms on it. All thanks to video. 👍👍👍✌️✌️
very enjoyable, informative and useful review. did a deal on one yesterday to pick up this Saturday. had not noticed these bikes till two days ago,but the more i read the more it makes sense for me. i need lighter now 72 yrs old, cant wait. thank you.
I bought mine back in February. My first bike, had total transmission failure within the first 500 miles, but a great experience after that. Though the power is more than enough for now; i'm definitely going to upgrade to its 650 big brother soon. I would recommend this bike to just about anyone.
Jeeeezzzz, never heard of any problems with these bikes. You must have been really unlucky! Glad your enjoying it now though. The Cb650r is one of my next test rides. 👍
@@exeterrider yeah I went to go buy it but they told me the rebate went up so it was like 500 bucks extra I was pissed what's the big idea to raise the price can somebody explain
Loved your review mate. Was a little concerned about whether it's big enough for me and the wife, or would handle the hills OK...... I'll definitely give one a go, so fed up with bigger bikes..... tyres, 40mpg, insurance, just can't afford them any more.
Thanks Shaun. Yes I know what you mean mate. Even my super economy NC costs 15 quid to fill up now and it never seems to last long. Anything over 600 is becoming a bit of a burden these days. Thanks E. R
Exactly this! Why the 500 has lower quality looks and parts than the 300 is beyond me. At least the CBR500R styling is in Keeping with its siblings. Why not the naked bike?
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts: lots of useful info. I did test ride the BMW310R and loved it, but I have a long and happy relationship with Honda machines so this CB is in the lead at the moment.
Thanks for watching. As you may know I owned a cb300r. Great bike but heard were too short which I didn't really find that on both of the 310s. Not sure if it's your thing but the RE meteor looks great👍🍻
@@exeterrider Thanks for the Meteor info, because I thought the R.Enfields were all 500s minimum. I checked the website and it seems to be "coming soon". I've spent a lot of time agonizing about the Royal Enfield "Classic".... friends saying "don't do it" etc etc. The Meteor looks gorgeous that's for sure.
Yeap. Royal fields are like nothing else. I liked the 500 classic but just not something I wanted to own but the meteor will ride like the classic but with better looks. Got to try one mate👌🍻
Thanks for that review, only about 250 miles on my CB300R at the moment, but loving it. Quite a change from the BMW1200Gs that I had had for over 10 years. A lovely bike but I just wasn't riding it as it was such a heavy beast!
Thanks Gary. I had a suzuki burgman 650 at one point and had the same issue. It was always a "faff" to pull it out to go for a ride. The 300r is easy just to pull out and go. Thanks for the comment, it's good to connect!
I had the same with my 500x before I bought this. The sad thing is I was only sat astride it, lost my balance and it fell on top of me - what a wimp!! But at 61 years of age I don't bounce like I used to! The 300 is of course a lot lighter which was a big factor for me, plus it has enough grunt to put a 'cackle on me chops'. All best.
Great Review thanks for the information. i pick my CB300r up next week 18 plate 1700 miles on the clock got it for 3k still under warranty till 2020. As i am quite restricted with a place to store the bike i was looking for something small and not to heavy that i could manoeuvre around and fit it in but wanted something that could do A roads and bit of motorway now and again comfortably. Watched your review and mind was made up and took the plunge.
Hey, that's great news congrats. They are superb bikes they really are. I have just bought bar risers for mine because it was making my shoulders ache a bit. Let us know how you get one. Good luck
@@0TurboxIt certinly feels different but in a good way. It's still not quite has high as I want it to be but soooo much better than without. Worth the money for me. It dosent change the feel of the ride to much.
Great review. Thinking of getting one of these, love the 350 classic but i think the cb300 will be much better for longer journeys and probably nearly as many mpg!
Good choice my friend! you will enjoy it I am sure. Where are you based to /local to me? I have been riding for years and always searching for the next one. It's like being bitten by a bug !
@@johnwesly4630 yes, I got it ! so far it's great, still breaking it in so not even close yet to red line, owners manual says 300 miles, I'm at about 175, so by this weekend I can start to open her up... I'll keep you posted, but she handles like a dream
Good owner review 👍 I was thinking about the new CB500F, because I prefer twin engines as I Drive know, but your video gave me a new point of view. Now, I have a reasonable doubt. Perhaps, I prefer the style of this bike instead the streetfighter style of the five hundred.
Hi, I rode my Grom a few times on the motorway, I'd rather not, although the new one has 5 speed which makes all the difference , Although the same top speed, I plucked my self behind a truck and it was quite comfortable.
Thanks for the review, based on your vid and a few others, I bought a cb300r this spring before riding one. I haven't been disappointed, it's good for commuting and with a rack, it will be good for travelling light on a road trip. Enough speed for me, it's agile and an easy going, fun bike to ride. Thanks.
great review and i am seriously thinking of getting one. Have done a test ride some months back but bought a Yamaha 600 diversion that im not enjoying so that has got to go. Had a Honda Grom for a few months but someone wrote it off, but that was a fun bike and perfect in London traffic but not on the M25. Already had you on my subscribe list so keep up the good work.
Thanks Peter. I think you will find the 300 a good happy medium of fun and practical aspects, the low gearing buhged me a bit so make sure you can live with that, apart from that. Great bike!
@@chris53small Yes your right the grom is much the same actually. I must admit I do miss my grom a bit-more than I miss the 300. Such nice little bikes to own apart from the seat being uncomfortable even after I had it reupholstered.
CB500F is a great bike. I picked one up 2 years ago after not having owned one for ages. I added a fairing, top box,GPS, Centre stand - perfect. Like you I don’t miss the power of the large capacity bikes I’ve owned because there’s nowhere you can use it.
Thanks for the review! I enjoyed it a lot and I’m definitely gonna upgrade. I had a Cb190r and I think Cb300r is the perfect bike for city riding and has everything I’m looking for.
I have the same bike (CB300R 2018) and I am pretty happy with it! Excellent for beginner by my option. And looks very good from aside. Even for bigger guy 😄
FYI, I brought home a new 2019 CB300R yesterday and have been having a lot of fun driving around. It's powerful and very nimble. So far it's great except for the the same few deficiencies you mentioned. Its definitely short geared. From every stop, you have to go up to 5th and 6th to run about 40 mph so you're constantly shifting, although some think that's actually part of the fun of driving a motorcyle. The mirrors are small and you can't see much behind you , but honestly in city driving, I don't like taking my eyes off the road in front of me. I might add a windscreen, but again, if not touring, that wind is part of the excitement of driving a bike. One other thing that is a two edged sword is the weight. Its so very light (317 lbs wet) that its easy to lug about, is nimble and results in more power ; the bad is that uneven road bumps and patches can give you a jolting lift. I've not caught any air, but I've had to go up on the pegs and hold on tight as you do get tossed up. Otherwise it's fun, a bit of adventure terrain and the suspension handles it just fine. So far so good.
Thanks for that Jeff. It's good for me to hear your thought's. To be honest thats why I got rid of mine due to the short gearing. If they sorted that out it would be a big difference. Thanks
@@exeterrider interesting. Have you made a review of your Honda? I want an adventure bike next and was considering the 500X. I'd be interested to hear your opinion of a comparison of the two (the nc750x and 500x). Thanks for your time, info and courteous replies, it is appreciated.
@@T4JQ3L Hi Jeff, Yes I made some videos on both bikes years ago when I first started youtube. Checkout my honda playlists and you will see them. Me and the 500x didn't really get on is the truth of it. But I got on very well with the NC750. Check out the old vids . Thanks
Very good review---you're definitely a responsible rider who knows his needs--I've got a Versys 300 and honestly--I'm just about 5'11 and still can't flat foot it. I've owned about 20 bikes but as a returning rider---lower power makes good sense.
Thanks Bill, having 20 bikes your going to know your stuff. I'd like to try all the versys range actually. They do look good bikes. As I say my issue is the low gearing on the Honda, I'd be intrested in comparing the versys to the Honda. Thanks for your kind comment. E.R
exeter rider Cool look forward to it last year I test rode the Honda Neo Cafe sport 1000 through in Edinburgh ...very similar styling to your 300 loved the look .
exeter rider Yeah I test rode that one at Edinburgh I liked it for the plus models up and down shifter...but eventually ended up going for the DCT Africa Twin
My complaints are yes the mirrors are average. And my second complaint is that the seat is a good shape but its super hard and sucks after about an hour and a half for me
Enjoying the vids . My big bike is K1600ga and I’ve just got a Monkey 125 as a fun small bike. There isn’t anything Wong with low cc bikes just a different type of fun comperd to big bikes. 👍
Wow great honest review, you should be on commission. I am just doing my direct access, have sat on the Yam mt03, now you've almost sold me on the cb300r , such a good review I now don't know which to go for? Its off to Honda for me for a look, Thanks
I had a GT 250m Ram Air back in 1978. I'm now thinking of returning to biking and after watching lots of reviews on here of different size bikes, i am convinced a 300 would be ideal. It's not about the power anymore. It's about the freedom and having fun with the power available. Think a CB 300 would leave a GT 250 behind anyway !!
First review I've seen from you, and it was good. What we need to know - can it cope on a motorway, can you sit on it till the seaside arrives and a demo of its better points coping with that driver who couldn't park their own car. Nice one, I subscribed, do more! FWIW my experience goes back to this ones ancestor, the CB250RSA which I always wanted to perform like this one does, but it never did.
Thanks Steve, yes I enjoyed this review. It's time normally I'm up against The longer I can have a bike the more I can do. Makes a huge impact on the videos. Thanks for subscribing 👍😊🍻
The part where you said you would never miss the power of the bigger bikes.. thats exactly what I have always felt. These little nippy 300s can handle everything you throw at them - city, highway, a bit of planned touring, I mean why not, and with a single cylinder fuel economy (and a low profile to not attract a lot of pesky attention - at least in India). I have never felt the urge for a bigger capacity bike. Despite all good intentions, finally it comes down to around 90+% city riding and the remaining on highways/tours.
Just checked its bhp and was 34bhp in the day not far off the 48 of the bonneville now. It seemed quite effortlessly fast in its day. I even pillioned regularly
@@exeterrider so true, so many desirable bikes. Had many a honda twin 500s. 60hp carbs too. I like polishing them as well as riding them. Thinking of nc Nc dct next like watching the channel as test rides are as rare as rocking hoese ***t
Update: Just bought a Honda CB300R (2022) in Candy Red for the son of my secretary in Thailand. 300cc is considered a "Big Bike" in Thailand. The Honda CB300R is like a grown up Honda Grom. In my opinon, the Honda CB300R is a great motorbike and underrated.
@@exeterrider I knew you owned a Honda CB300R because I watched your review with about another 8 reviews on You Tube in English (some Indian reviews that do the review in English where they really rate the CB300R) and my Thai secretary and her son watched +6 reviews in Thai. Her son has had it two weeks and is running it in on the university campus that is on a +million acre site. I bought it because it is small and light and most students will think it is only a CB150R (same frame, brakes etc) which is sold in Thailand as opposed to the CB125R in Europe. The reason I bought it is so her son can get around campus and he can drive back to his mum 170 kms (105 miles) at university holidays and saves her going to collect him in the pickup truck.
I owned à cbr 250r for many years. I really had à lot of fun with this bike. Beating the hell out of it on hiway. I did touring, Many long 1000 km + trips with it. I could follow friends riding their liter bikes. Perfectly reliable, dirt cheap when bought used, could ride full throttle all day. Really under rated bike.
@@exeterrider nc750x dct 2016. I would say not as fun as my cbr 250r but more suited to my type of riding now. I do mostly touring, I enjoy the comfort, luggage space...
I agree, I use my Inazuma 250 a lot more than my FZ1 just because it's a lot simpler day to day and I can't really think of a time where I thought 1000cc was a great choice (other than bragging rights ha). I hate the weird mindset the motorcycle industry has that you have to move up and anything below 600cc is a beginners bike, some people even consider 650s beginner bikes 50hp + is more than enough.
100% right - too much power is not a fun anymore. I changed 125cc to 600cc - 600 cc was never so fun to ride. It was fast but you had to be very carefull with the throttle + 40-45mpg was not cheap comparing to 80mpg + on 125cc. I bet your 300 being in between must perfect in both departments.
I don't know how many times I've been watching your video, and seems like I don't get tired since I love your bike. Right now I'm riding my kymco scooter that's 150cc, and that's just for work. I also use my scooter to go around town with, and have a little fum, but I do want to upgrade to your bike which I"m gaga overing, and keep the scooter just for work, or let my wife have it so we can ride around town together. That's my plan. I just need ot save up for it.
Hi mate, cracking review, agree with most you say. Had mine since October and the only thing I hate about it is that awful rattle/vibration around the 6,000 rpm mark. I down sized from a CB500X which was a great bike but it was like riding in your favourite armchair but weight wise was a lot heavier. Steering is more direct on the CB300R and a far nicer fun engaging ride. In my view the acceleration through the gears is quicker on the 300 than the 500. As someone who has arthritis in the spine the 300 is the most comfortable bike I have ridden on long distances in a long time. Performance wise I have ridden on the motorway for 60 odd miles at speeds averaging 80mph without problems. Other RUclips videos suggest that the bike will crack the ton and don't see why it won't at full chat. I have the Shad rack like yours with the Honda top box, heated grips, fender extender, R & G bar ends and a screen which I feel takes the wind blast off the chest. Future plans include a tail tidy which will tidy up the back end. I can cope with the mirrors, just tuck your arms in, most bikes I have ridden have rubbish mirrors as standard and wouldn't mind trying to source some bar end mirrors for mine. Anyway, in conclusion, I'll be keeping mine for a while, like you it doesn't leave me wanting for anything else and at this money what's not to like, Don't understand why they aren't more popular, good bikes!,. Anyway excellent review mate, keep em coming, enjoyable watch. Cheers.
Thanks Jonathan, I remember you said you had the CB500X. The 2019 model is one of my next test rides, hopefully next week. Maybe the CB 650R aswell. The screen is a good idea. Where can you get them from? I was thinking of you when I mentioned the 6000RPM vibes. Always good to hear from you.
@@exeterrider hi mate, the screen is from UK and made by a company called 'Power Bronze'. Paid about £90 and bought it direct from them. Its, stylish, well engineered and a doddle to fit, cheers.
Hello from California! I am looking for a lightweight bike that can do 80-85mph cruising for extended periods. What rpm is this bike at at those speeds? Do you think the bike could keep that up reliably for extended periods? I like to be 2/3 the way to redline when doing highway cruising as to not over stress the bike. If you put a larger front sprocket and/or a smaller rear sprocket to lower cruising rpms, do you think the bike would have the power to keep up those speeds with the gearing change? I like the size and weight of this bike but haven’t had the chance to actually ride one yet but they look great and are a competitive price. Thank you and keep up the great vids.
Hi Brandon. The Honda engine is reliable enough to ride on highways all day- everyday. Although the bike overall isn't to viby it will for long periods riding over 60-70 mph get a bit tiring and fatigue may set on bearing in mind there is no screen aswell. It will do it though no problem.
Hello! Excellent review! I’m looking to get into the motorcycling biz and the CB300R is near the top of my list. It looks great, and it can probably handle the highway duty that I’d need it to. HOWEVER... I must ask you a question. If you’re comfortable sharing, how much do you weigh? I have heard that these smaller bikes vary in speed with the rider size, and I’m concerned my American(ish) size could be a pain at 190 lbs (86 kgs) Thanks for the awesome review!
It's great to know I'm reaching you. I am 90kg and it handled my weight b no problem at all. Even with a passenger it felt fine. If your on the market for this also check out the BMW 310gs video I made👍🍻ruclips.net/video/05rdggRACNk/видео.html
@@exeterrider Your no nonsense relaxed 'this is how it is' was the tonic I needed as i research first bike choiced. Finding criteria for newish, reliable, practical, predictable, fun but without a wild party mode. And your review enabled me to tick these boxes. Thanks again.
Was looking at tracer 700 but this looks nice. Won't have he power but will help me keep my licence this time . Will consider a 300 now after seeing this
I can sit on 100kph all day on a Honda PCX 150 on a highway so I would certainly imagine a 300 would have no problem since it still has power which I sort of lack at that speed. Also as for windscreen after riding with a big screen on a Nomad for 15 years I really miss that. Maybe if you live where there are no bugs to smear on your visor; but you have to clean your visor every hour or 2 where I live. So a reasonable screen is a must. I think the bike could handle that. I look forwards to road testing one to buy.
For a good 3 years - between bikes - I had an sh300i. For some reason I never considered having more than one bike at a time. But now, for commuting purposes and I don't want to use my "big" bike, a cb300 looks like a good scooter alternative. Fun, better performance, and even cheaper.
You know what...your right Gary. You cant beat just easily pulling a bike out the garage and just going about your journey. The CB300 was superb but the short gears got irritating I found. When you got to 30-40 you were in 6th gear and when you got to 50ish you were in need of another gear. The sh300 you didnt have to think about that but a manual 300 or certinly this one you would.
@@exeterrider Ah, so you've had/used an sh300? Certainly miss mine. Bought it purely on reason - beat the London congestion charge, park easily, could just about do motorway, yet still nippy around London, had abs, and relatively cheap.
I had a Kawasaki Ninja 300. It was a great bike! It was really good around the town and all the mods were really cheap (I bought an aftermarket exhaust for only £60). I went on a 180 mile mini tour with other people and I was able to keep on B-roads. I do have to say that it was a little buzzy on motorways so it wasn't a great tourer. The bike isn't really made for that though so I didn't mind. Unfortunately some uninsured chav from London slammed into my bike on my scooter and wrote it off! It was a real shame, but I used the money to buy an SV650.
Great video, precisely what im looking for, have 750cc and 900cc super sports bike and want something light and easy to ride, something more relaxing but enough power to do motorways, regarding the gearing do you know if there is sprocket change you can make, i found 1st too short and snatchy. thinking if I changed the front sprocket might make the bike perfect, any thoughts, Cheers
@@exeterrider thanks for responding, it might be something I look into I'm pretty light just above 9 stone, so I think I have some wiggle room, can you tell me your average MPG roughly? Also would you still say this is still the best in its class? no contenders since your video?
@@mintmansam well actually they arnt making them at the moment because I think they are waiting for the new engine to come out thanks to euro5 rubbish. So unless you get a second hand one then you may struggle mate.
The rear rack is made by SHAD and if you Google CB125/300R rear rack /SHAD you should be able to find it.. The box is made by SHAD too but bought seperately.
Michael Evans Thanks - I was going to ask that but figured I check the other might have asked... Agree on capacity, I keep (and intend to keep) a SuperCub alongside a bigger bike. Smaller lighter bikes can be so much fun. But for commuting I agree, 300 is the sweet spot
You mentioned you tried the BMW. I will do some highway driving, do you think any of these will have any problems riding at 120-140kpm? Which one would you recommend? Thanks!
Hi David, they are not really designed for this work but they do quite a good job of it all things considered. I would go Honda all the way. . 140KPH will be full wack. And the vibes are bearable thought it would get annoying after 20 miles or so. I think you may be better off with something more geared to those sorts of speeds really.
Hi Ilan. The z400 Costa more last time I checked in the UK by quite alot. I haven't ridden the z400 but I think the looks are better then the 300r, also if I tenderness correctly its a twin so your not going to get the vibes. Kawasaki brand and finish is superb. I would proberly go for the z400 if like you say they are the same price.
Any helpful input would be appreciated.. i got 1200 miles on my cb300r all of sudden last night prior to getting off the fwy my bike went into limp mode started dying wont go above a certain rpm range or get past 2nd or 3rd gear
Lo dear, very unusual! The 300f a few years back had big end bearing issues but this was sorted after a recall and by the time the 300r was released the bearing was upgraded. I take it engine temperature was fine? And no liquid leakages? It has its 600mile first service? That's as much help I can be. It's a warrenty issue so take it back to the shop and see what they say.. Sorry to hear it! Let me know what it was please......
@@exeterrider alright so I just got my bike back it was a quick fix turns out the back seat compartment has a gap inside where paper items can get sucked in through.. Hey! I’ve got a quick question and I hope you’ll answer 🤞 I’m a total noob (never ridden a bike) and I’m looking at this one for my first. I’m a woman, 5’6”, 110lbs and I’m looking for something that I can learn foundational skills on (in a parking lot lol) but that I can also take on the highway for a cruise....the dealer is trying to talk me into a cb500f as they say it’s better on the highway but I’m really trying to balance learning + highway. You sound like you’ve ridden a lot of bikes and are very knowledgeable so what would you suggest? Thank you so much!!
OK I can answer that after a couple questions. 1, What is your favourite style of bikes, E. G sports, retro. 2. How soon do you think you will feel confident on a bike? 3. Previous experience? Offroad etc? 4.How confident are you? 5. What else is on your short list? The f is a good bike for sure. So is the CBR,
exeter rider omg wow thank you for replying!! 1. I like the sportier style, the look of the cb is very nice to me. I like the look of a naked bike. 2&4. I have never ridden a motorbike of any sort and therefore have zero experience. I have a pedal bike (which I’m sure is not at all like a motorbike lol) and drive a manual trans car so I get the whole clutch/throttle scenario...hopefully that will help me learn faster. I feel like once I take the safety course that I will feel confident enough to take my bike to a parking lot and practice on my own (how excited I get just sitting on a parked bike will make me want to get out and ride even if it is only in a parking lot lol) 3. Despite my total lack of experience I feel very confident that I can learn how to ride a motorbike because millions of people can do it so of course I can too. Also, I know my limits and understand that building the foundational skills (breaking, turning, shifting etc) in a big ol parking lot is where I’m going to spend a lot of my time early on.....but once I learn those skills.. 5. ....I’d like to have a bike I can take out and rip around on...I’m not going to be doing any super dank nooners but something I can have fun with around town and take out on the highway and keep up with the guys that have these big ol bikes that they drive on the highway around 90mph. Ummmm....I’m not sure what else. I guess something I can pick up if I drop it. A bike with good balance. Something on the taller end so that I don’t feel like I’m going to drag the bike on the ground when I turn a corner (if that makes any sense lol). Thank you so much for replying!! There’s so much great content, like your videos, on RUclips but nothing takes the place of the advice of an experienced rider. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply, it really helps with my confidence!!
Anytime - yes the cb300r and the F you can not go wrong with. Its very difficult because they both do the same thing really but just with a bit more torque on the F. Problem is the F dosent have the cool looks the 300 has and you can certinly "stunt and push the boundaries more) with the 300. The 500 is more serious. If you put the looks of the bikes aside then the F has a fantastic ride and can be very thrilling, I think the F wins for me but there is no wrong decision between the two. Let me know what you get 🍻😉🏍️
exeter rider great!! Thank you so much for your advice it’s so helpful! I’m going to go into a shop a sit on both of them and, considering what you said, choose the one that feels right. I’ll defo let you know how that goes 😊👍
Although it does a surprising good job on highways it is at the end of the day a naked. I would want to be on any naked for more than an hour on the highway. Top speed is about 94mph
I've looked at adjustable short levers, but there are so many to choose, from very cheap to very expensive. I wonder which ones you went with? It looks more difficult to replace the RH lever as the throttle cable guides are in the way, did you just loosen the locking nuts and twist these out of the way to get the bolt out? I like those mirrors too, you should get some affiliate links in the video description :)
I think these: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fit-Honda-CB300R-CB125F-CB125R-2019-Clutch-Brake-Levers-Short-Long-Adjustable-UK/254290664501?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 are the same as those in the review. I ordered the short versions, which I think definitely enhance the nippy feel of the CB300R. The original levers are very light but, for me, need adjusters and also seemed too long. These are beautifully made and the flatter faces give more and quite different feel. Less movement being needed suits both the front brake, which feels less spongey, and also the clutch which is light and works early. Initially they looked too short but this encourages using just 3 fingers on either side, leaving out the index.
PS When those were fitted they provided less 'throw', so that the clutch cable adjustment became critical, and they displaced the boot. So the original levers have gone back on the bike and now seem much more suitable!
I'd it's mainly around town and some A roads etc it's Brill Dave! I came from bigger bikes too and you can't beat just pulling out the garage and just going on your way. Its a fun bike when coming from bigger bikes
That's great feedback thankyou, I appreciate it 👍
Thanks, it would be a good choice. The cb125 is great but it's nice having that bit more power. 👍👌🍻

Brilliant review. Ive been torn between this & the 310GS and I think I'll go with the Honda. In Brisbane, Australia, the naked bike is best as it gets a little warm here!
Thanks ,your going to really enjoy it as I did.
A adventure bike keeps heat off ya better.
Getting one in the new year. It just looks so beautiful.
Yes I agree that's what attracted me to mine.
@@joecaljapan I love it. I just uploaded a video with me riding it. Some swearing on it though.
Great mark. Chopping in a versys 650 is a real testament to the 300R. I've put a couple k on mine now and am still pleased with it.
What a fantastically comprehensive review. I was looking at a CB500f or X, but now I'm not so sure!

Much appreciated! Go for the 500f mate, it's incredible, check out my review.
I will do! Do you prefer it over the CB300R as a rider returning to biking after 10 years?@@exeterrider
Both are good decisions, but the 500 is more comfortable, smoother, and a little more evergreen than the 300.... 500f all the way I say 👍
Kind of you Thanks very much. I really liked my 300, I just moved on after riding the NC750 it had my name on it : )

Really well done review. Excellent job of breaking down the bikes strengths. And weaknesses....which aren’t many. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻🏍
Thankyou James👍🍻
I've watched a lot of videos, and this is one of the better ones. No fancy music and graphics, just good solid info about the bike and that's really what most folks are looking for. Thank you, well done.
Means alot to me you dating that, thanks 👍👍🏍️
BTW, any reason you can't ride over a dirt road with this bike? While I live in the city, I also own a home in the country and there are several dirt roads I'd like to explore. Thanks again.
@@T4JQ3L it wouldn't be much fun. Handle bars are low and the suspension is set for the road. It would be hard work I think.
Haven't got my first bike yet bu I test rode many and honda are by far the most comfortable.
They are a sensible choice👍
Thanks, excellent review! Everyone online and at the dealers was saying to just get the 500, but after watching this I think I'll get the 300. Plus the insurance is half as much at least for a newbie.
Exactly👍thanks for watching 🙏👍
What I love about Honda's little "beginner bike" is they make it inexpensive to own and beautifully well to get new riders hooked on their brand and so you get more bang for your buck than with any other bike, new rider or not. As for my buddies making fun of my little bike, smaller than my previous bikes, they don't anymore because now they know I can lose them on a twisty road with it if I want to. No, it doesn't do litre bike 200mph speed but I don't care how fast an idiot can go in a straight line because the winding roads were made for me and this bike was made for them. A perfect match.
Yeap exactly Matt. Honda got alot right with this bike and as much as I like the CB 1000 and the test of the neo sports range I still day the 300 is the best real world bike of the lot of them 👍🍻🏍️
Great unhurried review and highway ride perspective. Really appreciate the craftsmanship of this motorcycle. Thanks.

Thanks for the comprehensive review👍 just saw this one at the showing room today and really liked the feel of it. Actually I went there to check out the cb500x but immediately saw that’s its too big for me to handle at the moment ( just getting my license out and I’m not a tallish guy). That 300 might be my first

Thats great John. Your going to love it!
I bought mine back in February. My first bike, had total transmission failure within the first 500 miles, but a great experience after that. Though the power is more than enough for now; i'm definitely going to upgrade to its 650 big brother soon. I would recommend this bike to just about anyone.

Thanks E. R
Your mindset on motorbikes is exactly the same as mine. People really underestimate smaller bikes, and they're so much more fun and enjoyable.
Definitely, even 125s can be alot of fun. Don't have to think or plan every move so much👍🍻
This bike with the engine of 500f would be perfect.
It would be but the 500F itself is pretty good too anyway.😀
@@exeterrider that is true, its just that I like this neo sports cafe design 😏.
Do you think Honda will be updating the looking in the near future of a 500R?
Exactly this! Why the 500 has lower quality looks and parts than the 300 is beyond me. At least the CBR500R styling is in Keeping with its siblings. Why not the naked bike?
I completely agree. I am in love with the neo cafe styling of the 300 and 650, but I want the 500 engine.
Fantastic video, very informative and well put together! Brilliant content.
Lovely of you to say thanks 👍
Good yes it is good at it all. Glad you liked it thanks
Thanks

Great review . 300 is enough me thinks. Motorcycle technology and design is amazing these days .
Yeap I agree. Although I don't miss the short gears or the v slight vibes, the power was always good enough on that bike. They are brilliant bikes👍
When I started biking in the 70's a 300 would have been classed as a big bike to most bikers. I went all over on a GP100 then a GT250.
Proberly. I also think 300s are real good size engine capacity.
It's time normally I'm up against
The longer I can have a bike the more I can do.
Yeap that's it I agree. I have another 300 coming up in a few weeks as well. It's a good engine capacity.

That CB300R looks really nice and I like that candy red colour.
I like the looks of the Honda naked bikes especially the CB650R.
They are nice to look at. The 300 would be so much better if it had longer gearing though tbh.
Definately, did you know I owned one? They are great bikes 👍🏍️
@@johntheaccountant5594 brilliant 😉🙂
Great review had mine since November was a bargain at £3500 with 2 miles on couldn't resist
That's a great price Keith!. I would have bought it for that aswell, no brainer at that price.
How many miles have you put on yours?
It's got a whopping 900 miles actually using more than I thought I would.its a great bike for a older returning biker .
Sounds like you had great fun on it

I agree, I use my Inazuma 250 a lot more than my FZ1 just because it's a lot simpler day to day and I can't really think of a time where I thought 1000cc was a great choice (other than bragging rights ha). I hate the weird mindset the motorcycle industry has that you have to move up and anything below 600cc is a beginners bike, some people even consider 650s beginner bikes 50hp + is more than enough.
It is the stupid ego of most bikers.
Great vid keep it up mate
Thank you , comments like that keep it all worthwhile. Thanks for watching it!
I totally agree mate 💯
Great video as I am thinking of getting one, I need a lighter bike now I'm in my 70s

Thanks buddy👍I will Always do my best for you all
Bit of a long shot this but can you say where you got the rear rack and plate from? thanks
Hi alarm, the rack was ebay and it was a Shad plate👍
I don't know how many times I've been watching your video, and seems like I don't get tired since I love your bike. Right now I'm riding my kymco scooter that's 150cc, and that's just for work. I also use my scooter to go around town with, and have a little fum, but I do want to upgrade to your bike which I"m gaga overing, and keep the scooter just for work, or let my wife have it so we can ride around town together. That's my plan. I just need ot save up for it.
His idea, it's not too expensive, you will get there, goodluck 👍
Very helpful and informative. Are you talking with your helmet on during the early walk-around? The audio is a bit mushy
Hi proper.glad you enjoyed it.... Yeap. Helmet was on. Sound isn't great in there 👍😊🍻
Hi mate, cracking review, agree with most you say.
Its, stylish, well engineered and a doddle to fit, cheers.

exeter rider hey man, kind of curious how it looks with the screen do you mind sharing a pic? Thinking of getting the 2020 model. Thanks!
@@ricardor9440 hi, screen.... What screen? I don't have one!?
GREAT REVIEW! just wanted to know where you got the side mirrors? Thanks
Hi and thank you! It was eBay, they don't sell them no more sorry to say. I now have them on my NC750x 🍻
Hello! Excellent review! I’m looking to get into the motorcycling biz and the CB300R is near the top of my list. It looks great, and it can probably handle the highway duty that I’d need it to. HOWEVER... I must ask you a question. If you’re comfortable sharing, how much do you weigh? I have heard that these smaller bikes vary in speed with the rider size, and I’m concerned my American(ish) size could be a pain at 190 lbs (86 kgs)
Thanks for the awesome review!
It's great to know I'm reaching you. I am 90kg and it handled my weight b no problem at all. Even with a passenger it felt fine. If your on the market for this also check out the BMW 310gs video I made👍🍻ruclips.net/video/05rdggRACNk/видео.html
If you put agressive tires,a larger rear sprocket your gearing it down thus making it into a trail bike with shorter gears yet and more torque
Which would u go with cb300r or cb500f if you just had your A2 license
The 300r seat is a bit uncomfortable. The 500f is quite faultless.... 500f is a good bet. And it's smoother, with good power 👍

Was looking at tracer 700 but this looks nice. Won't have he power but will help me keep my licence this time . Will consider a 300 now after seeing this
Have could be a better alluring if you do alot of highway stuff. Both are good bikes but do different things and the tracer is alot more expensive.
Yeap it does do a very good job on the highway. Like you say long ten thinking a screen would be required but power wise it has plenty.
They are goodlooking bikes, shame mr uninsured ruined it for you! Still the SVs are awesome bikes!
Great video, precisely what im looking for, have 750cc and 900cc super sports bike and want something light and easy to ride, something more relaxing but enough power to do motorways, regarding the gearing do you know if there is sprocket change you can make, i found 1st too short and snatchy. thinking if I changed the front sprocket might make the bike perfect, any thoughts,
Cheers
I think people have changed the sprocket. I couldn't tell you where they bought them from though.
Every little will help on that front. 👍
@@exeterrider thanks for responding, it might be something I look into I'm pretty light just above 9 stone, so I think I have some wiggle room, can you tell me your average MPG roughly? Also would you still say this is still the best in its class? no contenders since your video?

Quite a step Chris. Good to have a bike you can just pull out and go!
Would this be ok for a beginner bike? I am also on the short side(5ft 5) can this be lowered if needed?
It would be fine vas a first bike. 5,5 it will be OK nothing to worry about. Go for it! E. R
Hi, what's your recommedation about the z 400 , it is in the same pric. Thank
Hi Ilan. The z400 Costa more last time I checked in the UK by quite alot. I haven't ridden the z400 but I think the looks are better then the 300r, also if I tenderness correctly its a twin so your not going to get the vibes. Kawasaki brand and finish is superb.

So is the CBR,
P. S, the 300 is a great starter bike because its so much lighter the three 500 range.
exeter rider omg wow thank you for replying!!
Great video. What top box carrier did put on? It looks a good one as it keeps the pillion hand grabs available.
Thanks for saying. It was a SHAD rack and box. Very strong it was too.
How do you find the display? I have heard alot of these can be heard to read with the sun behind you.
Can be, but it's really not that bad. Basically it just doesn't jump out at you compared to it being out of sunlight....no biggy.
Does this bike perform great on highways for 2 hours? And what’s the top speed?
Although it does a surprising good job on highways it is at the end of the day a naked. I would want to be on any naked for more than an hour on the highway. Top speed is about 94mph
I've looked at adjustable short levers, but there are so many to choose, from very cheap to very expensive. I wonder which ones you went with? It looks more difficult to replace the RH lever as the throttle cable guides are in the way, did you just loosen the locking nuts and twist these out of the way to get the bolt out? I like those mirrors too, you should get some affiliate links in the video description :)
They are the same as the Honda grom Gary so just search for shorty grom levers and they should fit.
Nice acquisition and review !
I do like those "transformers" mirrors... Where did you get these ? 😏
Hi, online somewhere. Search for folding mirrors👍
